Alpha's Regret: The Seventh Time was Forever-Chapter 70 – A woman’s instinct
On the other end of the line, Seraphine drew in a slow, controlled breath, not with panic but with calculation, as though numbers and probabilities were rearranging themselves behind her calm exterior.
Her mind never moved in straight lines. It branched, divided, examined consequences from every possible angle before settling anywhere.
When she finally spoke, her voice carried the weight of decision rather than hesitation. "Go ahead and increase your investment there."
Damon straightened where he stood, the response hitting him harder than he expected because it was the exact opposite of what he had hoped to hear. He had expected caution, or at least a clever workaround that would allow him to maintain trust without committing to something so massive.
"What are you saying?" he asked, disbelief tightening his tone despite his effort to remain composed. "No, and besides, my ranking will drop if I move that much capital into a fluctuating company, won’t it?"
"For a while," Seraphine admitted without flinching, her voice thoughtful rather than concerned, "but it will rise again."
Damon began pacing the length of his room, his steps slow but restless, the weight of fifty billion pressing against his thoughts like a physical force. "I really don’t want to do this," he said honestly, his resistance no longer hidden. "All I wanted was something decent to tell him so he wouldn’t get suspicious. This feels excessive."
A faint smile curved across Seraphine’s lips on the other end of the line, though her mind was clearly still dissecting the situation piece by piece. She never stopped thinking, never stopped positioning pieces on a board only she could fully see.
"If you refuse," she said carefully, "he will never fully trust you. You becoming his beta already invites doubt. This might be a test, Damon. He could be measuring loyalty, evaluating how far you are willing to go for him."
The clarity in her reasoning dismantled his objections one by one. Damon stopped pacing and leaned against the wall, staring at the opposite corner of the room as though the blank surface might offer reassurance.
Seraphine knew Ravyn better than anyone else, no doubt, but the way she always seemed to have an answer to every question was still worth looking into.
"How do you always know what to do?" he asked quietly, and there was no pride in the question, only genuine wonder.
"It is a woman’s instinct," she replied lightly, then added with a faint sigh, "and besides, I already know how to bring him down again."
Damon did not believe for a second that this was merely instinct tied to gender. If it were that simple, Daisy would not be stumbling through deception so clumsily. This was Seraphine’s mind at work, sharp and disciplined, capable of seeing weaknesses before others even sensed vulnerability.
"Fine," he said at last, surrendering to her judgment. "I will call him. Just find out who this Zane is and tell me what to do next." 𝓯𝓻𝒆𝙚𝒘𝓮𝙗𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝒍.𝙘𝓸𝙢
The call ended, but Damon remained still for a moment, absorbing the magnitude of what he was about to set in motion.
He dialed his Chief Operating Officer, Danny, without allowing himself time to reconsider.
"Danny," he said firmly once the line connected, "prepare the necessary documents for Walker’s Global Enterprise. We are increasing our investment to fifty billion."
The silence that followed was thick with disbelief before Danny’s voice burst through.
"Have you completely lost your mind?" Danny demanded, unable to mask his shock. "Walker’s Enterprise is unstable, their stocks are fluctuating unpredictably. We are in a strong position right now, so why would you inject that kind of capital into a struggling company?"
Damon inhaled slowly, steadying himself before responding. "Just prepare the documents," he said, his tone firm enough to end the debate before it could escalate further.
He ended the call and immediately dialed Ravyn.
"My chief operations officer will contact you shortly," Damon informed him, his voice measured and unreadable.
On the other end, Ravyn released a breath that sounded like a man who had been holding himself together by sheer force. "You saved me, Damon. I promise you will not regret this."
Damon’s expression hardened slightly at the word saved, though he did not challenge it. Instead, he directed the conversation to something equally important.
"Are you returning to the pack anytime soon?" he asked, keeping his tone polite even as his eyes remained sharp.
"It might take a few weeks," Ravyn replied. "Is there anything that requires my attention?"
Damon considered his plan to perform the DNA test on Ravyn and Bryan but for now, he could focus his attention on Zane instead. The name was already under quiet investigation, and he trusted Seraphine’s abilities.
"Nothing I cannot handle," Damon responded smoothly. "Take care, Ravyn."
When the call ended, Damon unlocked his door, and the moment it swung open, he caught sight of a figure retreating down the corridor. He recognized her immediately.
"Daisy," he said calmly.
She froze in front of her door, her hand resting on the knob like a dear caught in headlight. Her back remained turned to him for a brief second before she slowly pivoted around.
Damon’s mind moved quickly, assessing how much she could have overheard. The most critical conversation, the one with Seraphine, had taken place inside the washroom behind a locked door, making it nearly impossible for her to have heard anything substantial.
Daisy’s face was flushed, whether from embarrassment or anger he could not yet tell.
"I heard your ringtone earlier," she explained quickly, her words slightly rushed. "I thought you were outside my door, so I stepped out, but you were not there. I was about to knock when I heard you speaking on the phone." She paused and added, "I didn’t mean to eavesdrop."
Damon studied her carefully, forcing his expression into neutrality even as his voice deepened. "What exactly did you hear?"
Daisy’s jaw tightened, her earlier embarrassment dissolving into something darker. She lifted her chin, and her eyes flashed with agitation.
"You are investing fifty billion into Walker’s Global Enterprise," she said, her voice sharp with disbelief. "Why would you do that?"
