Just as the two were about to tear into each other, at that moment within the Internal Revenue Service Headquarters, a staff member came out to remind them.
Upon hearing that Inspector David knew of their arrival, the two stopped their bickering, exchanged a glaring look with each other, and followed the staff member inside.
Inspector General’s Office.
Seeing the two groups enter one after the other, David put down the documents in his hand and stood up, saying, “Vice President, lady, you could have just let me know if you needed something. There was no need for you to come over in person.”
“I knew after the Remote Tax Evasion Bill passed the Senate, Inspector David’s workload must have increased considerably. So, I didn’t want to waste your time, and besides, as the Vice President, I have plenty of free time as well. It’s not a problem for me to come in person.”
Since Katherine had come seeking David’s assistance, she naturally assumed a humble posture.
“Well, if you say so… Alright.”
David then turned his attention to Ivanka and her father, saying, “Mr. Trump, I have sought many meetings with you to no avail. I didn’t expect to finally meet you today.”
Of course, he knew why they had come to see him now; they had simply recognized his advantageous position and made their choice, but he didn’t point this out directly.
The man with the red scarf could only respond with an awkward smile, unable to find the words.
His reluctance to meet David previously had mainly been due to the influence of The Big Three Groups; he didn’t want to get involved at such a critical juncture and risk bringing trouble upon himself.
However, what he hadn’t expected was that David had such extensive connections that he had managed to sway both the Senate and House of Representatives, now holding an absolute advantage.
What he feared the most was that Katherine might mess up his plans, and thus he had been forced to make a choice.
“Inspector General David, the Remote Tax Evasion Bill has successfully passed the Senate, and I have come to personally offer my congratulations…”
Before the man with the red scarf could speak, Katherine, eager to seize the initiative, made this statement.
“Much of the credit for this matter goes to you, Madam Vice President. If it weren’t for your critical vote, the passage of our bill would have been uncertain.”
Hearing David’s words filled Katherine with immense satisfaction, even sending a provocative glance towards Ivanka and her father.
That look seemed to say: See me now? In this camp, the real decision-maker is me, Katherine, not you two!
The father and daughter weren’t blind; they clearly saw Katherine’s triumphant expression.
Although they were furious at this moment, they indeed didn’t know how to refute her; because, indeed, the Vice President had played a significant part in the bill’s passage.
“By the way, Madam Vice President, what else brings you here? Surely it’s not just to celebrate the bill passing the Senate?”
“Er… Of course not…”
Katherine glanced at Ivanka and her father, hesitating.
“Mr. Trump is our friend, please, Madam Vice President, say whatever it is you have to say!”
David had repeatedly sought to meet with the former President, of course, because he recognized the influence of his family’s backing.
And now, his comment was an implicit suggestion: I already consider you as one of our own, so I hope you can be accommodating in return!
Sure enough, while Ivanka and her father didn’t say anything, they were inwardly touched by David’s stance of not treating them as outsiders.
“Then I’ll speak. Now that the bill has passed the Senate, there will certainly be some statements from the White House. I want to know if there’s anything I should do or prepare for in advance!”
“If the situation I discussed with you does arise at the White House, just be ready to step up to your new role. Should there be any other matters, I will notify you!”
Upon hearing this, Ivanka and her father couldn’t help but exchange a knowing look.
They guessed right; if the White House refused to sign, David indeed had plans to make a move against Payden and then support Katherine’s rise to power in order for her to sign this piece of legislation into effect!
“Understood, and about my plans after taking office, I intend to proceed like this…”
Katherine detailed her construction and planning for America once she had risen to power.
Of course, the most important aspect was the use of the funding from taxes collected by the Internal Revenue Service through this bill.
After listening, David nodded slightly, “Vice President, your plans are indeed good. If you develop them exactly as we envisioned, I’ll apply to the director to allocate this funding!”
“Since Inspector David says the plan is good, I will strictly implement it according to this when the time comes, but…”
At this point, Katherine’s hesitant gaze again fell upon Ivanka and her father.
“I’ve already said, Mr. Trump is one of us; just speak your mind!”
“Alright.”
Katherine organized her thoughts and slowly said, “Any one of these plans would need at least three to four years to achieve outstanding results, and as you know, Inspector David, if I take over now, I will have less than two years left, which might affect these plans…”
She didn’t outright ask for re-election in ’24, but the people present were not fools; they understood clearly what she meant.
Especially Ivanka and her father at this moment, this was precisely the fear that they dreaded!
They came here for the matters concerning the presidential election of ’24.
But they hadn’t expected Katherine’s arrival to be for the same reason!
It was truly a collision!
Nevertheless, they certainly couldn’t allow anyone to dare to snatch their chance at reclaiming the throne in ’24!
The man in the red scarf immediately retorted angrily, “Vice President Katherine, just do well with planning during your tenure, and as for after your term, the successor will naturally be able to continue your plans, you don’t have to worry about that!”
His words were essentially telling Katherine that since her plans had been approved by David,
Well then, when I get back into that position, of course I’ll make everything perfect!
Katherine certainly understood, but now that things had come to this point, there was no reason for her to back down.
She immediately replied, “Mr. Trump, each ruler has their own vision and thoughts. For instance, some drivers can handle trucks, while others can only drive cars. If a car driver insists on driving a truck, it’s uncertain if the end might not be a wreck with both the vehicle and the person destroyed!”
Katherine’s words were actually a veiled criticism of the other party, suggesting that these were her plans, and what if an unknowing successor came along and messed things up?
The man with the red scarf obviously understood the sarcasm directed at him, and it made him smoke with rage, as he pointed directly at Katherine’s nose and cursed, “Fuck Katherine, who do you say can drive cars and who can drive trucks?”
He had dared to argue with Nancy in such an important place as Congress, so in a private setting like this, he was even less afraid of a Vice President without real power.
“Mr. Trump, there’s no need to get upset, I didn’t mean…”
“Alright!”
Just as the two were about to continue their argument, David had had enough and intervened directly, “Vice President, you do make some sense… However, the matter of ’24 is still far off and of great importance, and still requires long-term deliberation. It’s not good to make a decision right now!”
Upon hearing this, Katherine’s expression darkened, but Ivanka and her father secretly breathed a sigh of relief.
As long as David wasn’t hell-bent on supporting Katherine for re-election in ’24, their chances were still good!
However, they needed to think carefully about how to secure David’s support from now on.
