Apocalypse: I Build A Doomsday Train-Chapter 1120 - 428: Abandoned Base_3
"Garage area," KIKI whispered.
In the robot’s view, rows of military trucks and armored vehicles were neatly parked, but their tires had long since deflated, and a thick layer of dust covered their bodies. A few cars had their doors half-open, as if someone had once left in a hurry, never to return.
"These vehicles have been here for at least decades," KIKI’s voice was somewhat tight. "Even the paint has oxidized and peeled off."
Lin Xian didn’t respond, only staring at the image as the robot’s lens slowly swept over a military jeep, with a faded military uniform still hanging on the driver’s seat. A faint serial number could be seen on the sleeve.
"Supply depot," the robot continued forward, passing through a thick blast door.
The area was filled with wooden crates and metal shelves, but most of the supplies had decayed. Food packaging bags were deflated and moldy, canned goods were rusted beyond recognition, and in a corner, several barrels of fuel had leaked, with black oil stains congealing into sticky patches on the ground.
"There’s also a hangar here," KIKI switched the robot’s perspective.
The hangar space was more open than the garage but equally silent. A few hypersonic fighters sat quietly in their positions, their wing markings long peeled off, revealing rusted metal frames. Beyond the hangar was a half-level armory filled with weapons, rifles, handguns, and ammo boxes. Yet, aside from those stored in special containment devices that seemed still usable, most had lost their original deterrence, with firearm metal parts heavily corroded and bullets in magazines oxidized and deformed.
"It looks like... just an ordinary military base that’s been dust-sealed for years. Even if there’s anything here, it’s too ruined to use."
"Didn’t the survivors who originally hid in this prison search this place? Without military defense, they should have had a way in," Ning Jing questioned from the side.
KIKI operated the ACT robot and several drones to quickly scan the environment. Just then, Lin Xian suddenly spoke.
"Hold on."
"What is it?"
"Two o’clock direction, raise the view."
He had KIKI adjust the viewing angle. As the image moved upward, a symbol appeared prominently on a giant hallway wall, faded but still recognizable at a glance by Lin Xian and the others.
The nuclear radiation symbol!
At the deepest part of the base, a massive lead door appeared in the night vision sight.
Simultaneously, the Geiger Detector on the ACT robot began to show increasing values, surpassing levels absolutely hazardous to humans!
"Now we know why..."
The night was as dark as ink, enveloping the entire Island.
Lin Xian, along with KIKI Shizhi and Ning Jing’s squad, had now reached this long-abandoned military base. Looking at the numbers on the Geiger Detector, Lin Xian said solemnly, "Coming here without Full Coverage Power Armor is basically suicide. But this level of radiation doesn’t seem like a large-scale nuclear leak."
"Strange, could there still be nuclear fuel stored here?" Following the path explored by the robot, the group made their way to stand before the closed gate at the base’s interior. KIKI spoke.
Lin Xian glanced at the mechanical door ahead, waved his hand, and the Mechanical Heart quickly operated, taking control of the dust-sealed gates. With a clattering sound, the door slowly opened.
Everyone stepped back into a defensive position, alert. As the door opened, a sudden burst of air rushed out, stirring up dust, and as the door revealed its contents, a scene completely different from the outside appeared before them.
Behind the door was an area sealed off with steel doors and barbed wire, tracks lined the ground. Lin Xian casually swallowed a small section of the passage, revealing a small, pristine corridor lit with bright lights, clearly indicating activity.
"Be careful, this might be those folks’ stronghold."
Lin Xian raised his hand for the squad to prepare, then had a drone lead the way. The group cautiously ventured inside, but just exiting the passage left everyone in shock.
Once out of the corridor, a vast four-armed mechanical apparatus loomed in a pit with a diameter exceeding three hundred meters, four ventilation ducts descending downward, looking majestic!
"What is... this thing?" KIKI asked in astonishment.
Lin Xian shook his head, then proceeded down the stairs. As they reached the lower level, an even more astonishing sight unfolded before them. The gigantic mechanical pillar stretched hundreds of meters into the underground, plunging into a red lava pool sectioned into several regular areas. A massive re-armoring device, like a lid, covered the top. Upon entering, Lin Xian and the others noticed the Power Armor’s temperature sensors constantly rising, heat waves billowing up!
"It seems like some geothermal device, but... why such high radiation?" KIKI remarked.
Lin Xian shook his head, for the scene before him was unexpected. There was no trace of nuclear fuel leakage, but this enormous apparatus was certainly more than just a ’base’.
"This thing doesn’t resemble a military facility..."
