Apocalypse: Infinite Breaker Online-Chapter 51: Devil’s Deal, Void of Belief
Just as Axir asked the question, the pair of eyes was accompanied by its bearer as a devilish crimson-skinned face appeared with black curved horns. Each horn had a glowing crimson drop at its tip.
A black texudo-style outfit adorned his body, and a demonic thin tail with a crimson wisp at its tip extended behind him.
An exotic wooden cane with purple and crimson flame pattern was in his hand, which he stubbed in the ground before bowing gentlemanly in front of Axir.
"Pleased to meet you, Axir Grimspire." The being smiled. "Player Ace."
[ Devil ??? ]
Lifeform rank: 2nd Sphere
Combat Power: 13 million Pulses
’What the fuck?’ Axir was startled at this being’s status.
It was absurd.
’2nd Sphere? 13 million pulses? What does that even mean?’
But one thing was clear: this being was crazy powerful. Probably powerful enough to destroy the planet...which was not possible given the presence of Gods, who were surely more powerful than this devil.
’I am Devil Maine. I heard you are not planning to join any God Faction.’ Devil Maine stood straight, stretching his white-gloved hand. ’As the master of the 11th Despair Pillar, I extend my dark-hearted invitation to you in order to inaugurate you as the 10th Pillar Master.’
’Telepathy? So he doesn’t want anyone else to hear our conversation. Moreover, he can read my mind, given that he knows I don’t plan to join any God Faction. That was my initial thought about this, and he somehow knows it.’
However, he wasn’t worried anymore since he asked a crucial question of whether he was in danger, and the game answered him that the devil cannot do anything to him except for talking.
’Why? Axir asked in response. ’I am far weaker than you, yet you want to give me a position higher than yours in hierarchy?’
Devil Maine chuckled. ’Of course, because that is beneficial to us all. If you join our side, you can get a following of humans to turn them to our side with your current power on this planet. We can even eventually destroy the gods in the long run and attain absolute sovereignty.’
Axir raised his eyebrows. ’Well, one thing that became clear is that there is an opposing side of gods that the game didn’t introduce, the Despair Pillars, I’d say? Tell me one thing, are you excluded fromthe danger of Abyssals?’
’Yes and No.’ Devil Maine smiled. ’Abyssals sides with no one. They seek only destruction, devouring all life. However, our aim is to create a world where the minority rules over the majority. We care only for the strong and use the rest of our lives as tools for our survival and entertainment.’
’I know that’s what you truly desire. To rise above others, to lord over them, to live to your heart’s content, and become strongest.’
Devil Maine fiercely grinned. ’Join us, and you shall make it possible. The 100 Despair Pillars are choosing their disciples among the humans. The top 10 pillars are empty, but we can nominate one to the 10th pillar, and we have decided that you deserve it.’
’Once you ascend on that pillar, you will acquire the Legacy Deck of the 10th Despair Pillar—Demonic Wheel of Uneven Scales.’
’You shall become the strongest!’
Axir blinked. ’What if I want to ascend to the 1st Despair Pillar?’
Devil Maine blinked twice. Then cleared his throat and smiled. ’The 10th pillar is the only one that can be chosen, albeit based on the votes of the other 90 Pillar Masters. As for the nine pillars from 1st to 9th, they chose their masters themselves.’
’Interesting.’ Axir rubbed his chin. Thinking for a moment, he smiled and said. ’Well, thanks for the offer. Give me a day to think about it. For now, I’ll go and visit the Void of Belief.’
’As you wish.’ Devil Maine gentlemanly bowed and vanished, his words lingering and gradually vanishing. ’I shall visit you tomorrow sometime.’
After the Devil left, Axir turned to the girls and removed the barriers.
"What’s going on?"
"Who was that?"
The girls were confused and curious.
Axir wryly smiled. "The devils are already working."
"Devils?" Mio tilted. "You mean the evil beings who feel joy by harming others?"
"Yep. He was here to invite me to become one of their leaders." Axir chuckled. "I’m considering joining it."
"What?! Brother, you can’t do that!" Mio pouted.
Aoi laughed. "Silly girl, he is just joking."
"Right." Lexi chuckled.
"Exactly. Anyway, get in the car. We are going to see something new."
"Brother, I want to visit the deities." Mio grinned.
Axir chuckled. "Then better start behaving like a good girl. Maybe they’ll invite you if you impress them."
"I want to be chosen by a strong and beautiful goddess," Aoi excitedly said.
"Yeah, keep dreaming." Lexi snickered. ’What about me? I am no longer a virgin...but that shouldn’t matter, right? I have to do something and impress the deities.’
The majority of the players were logged out.
And humans were spread through the world in groups according to their previous groupings.
With nothing on Earth except for nature and life, people soon became busy building stuff.
With billions of players who had superhuman strength and cards, humanity was starting its early development in this new world.
Many people began doing good deeds, becoming helpful, and doing everything they thought was good for their gods to please them, so they could be chosen.
The appearance of gods became one of the driving factors for the majority of humans.
But there were also humans whose nature would not just change because of Gods, especially if the devil comes knocking on their doorsteps.
Axir knew things would be far from peaceful starting today.
After a minute, he arrived at the Void of Belief.
"This is scary," Mio whispered as she looked at the void.
The group exited from the car mid-air with Axir’s Mana control and floated before the massive, dimensionally exotic whirling void that was visibly bending reality around their eyes while they looked at it.
A dark golden bridge suddenly manifested below their feet, leading into the void of belief.
[ Unless you truly do not believe in the gods, do not go forward. To believe in something other than oneself is a primal weakness of conciousness and that is why gods were born to become the reason for existence. ]
[ Entering here means you will not be able to join any God Faction and acquire the benefits. ]
[ You are the god of your life, but there is no guarantee that entering the Void of Belief would drive reality to manifest the god born out of your ideal. ]
’So it doesn’t specifically say anything on how to do it.’ Axir’s eyes glinted. A smile stretched on his face. ’Well, if people can’t figure it out themselves, they don’t deserve to be here.’
’Ideals.’ Axir turned around. "Let’s go. We are going back."
’I must have immovable ideals first. Ideals that I believe will become reality with my own power.’
...
"So what are we doing now?" Aoi looked out of the window as the car flew through the horizon.
"Let’s watch what people are doing around this new world." Axir smiled. "It’ll be fun."
"Yes! I agree! I want to see this new world." Mio clapped while grinning. "And I want to do something to impress the gods. Brother, you must help me."
"We should do that. Let’s watch people and see what they are doing to impress gods." Lexi nodded.
"I am excited!" Aoi grinned. "I will impress Goddess Amaterasu and Goddess Freya."
"Two from different pantheons?" Lexi rolled her eyes.
"Maybe it’s possible? We won’t know unless we try, hehe."
