Apocalypse: Infinite Breaker Online-Chapter 52: Race of the New Age Begins
When eight billion people of all ages suddenly find themselves in the wilderness with nothing they knew in sight, what happens?
Well, it depends on people.
Nobody knew where they were, so the majority stayed where they were placed and began building.
Abundant wilderness meant there was no lack of wood.
And superhuman players meant there was no lack of workforce.
Axir was observing a 10-kilometer radius area around him every second, looking over everything, not in great detail, but enough to get the gist of it all.
The group slowed down and watched whenever they found groups of humans, seeing what they were doing.
Everyone was basically working, except for mothers or fathers who had to take care of babies.
Survival was not hard in this new world due to the abundance of resources and the need for each other for development.
There were groves of fruit trees with tasty and nutritious fruits. Clear rivers that could rejuvenate people with their pure water. Air so pure that even those who were sick got better.
After three hours, the group was bored. They also gave a helping hand in some places, but not much was needed since people were grouped and everyone was surviving just fine.
And so, they arrived at the place where Jason and others were settling.
There were already many wooden houses and borders, and small assigned groups were still building toilets in many houses, while other people were resting after gathering and preparing materials. They had also gathered fruits, built wells to store water from the nearby river, one kilometer away, and erected fences around the village.
Some were meditating, and kids were playing random sports on the empty grounds.
There were about six hundred people in this community, and 90% of them were players.
"Axir, can you come for a bit? We are discussing something about the community, and since you are the strongest, we’d like your input," Jason said.
There was one rather big wooden building, like a pavilion, where eight adults had gathered. Three women and five men led the people to build this area.
Jason’s father was part of that group, apparently, and the people were looking forward to meeting the number one player.
The leaders were usually smart to a certain extent. Since the world had completely changed its order and structure, it was better to have someone powerful among them. And who was better than the number one player?
Seeing Axir, everyone greeted him politely despite the significant age gap. They were treating Axir as an adult. Not an eighteen-year-old. He was the strongest player at that age, and they were smart enough to know that idiots wouldn’t become number one in any reality, no matter the age. It was a truth borne out of a common reality.
"So, Axir. We had a meeting and decided that you should be the leader of this settlement," Jason’s father said with a smile. "Of course, we won’t burden you with useless tasks. Leave the development and management of people to us."
"Indeed. Someone as strong as you doesn’t need to do boring work. Just protect us in case something happens, and tell us if you need anything," a middle-aged woman next to him added with a chuckle.
Axir smiled.
’These pieces of trash. People always end up believing garbage will give them a good life, getting fooled by sweet words and appearances. Heh, these hyenas already planned to use my status as the strongest player to rule this settlement, use my power to protect it from Abyssal Gates when they open tomorrow, and develop this place the way they want. In other words, they want to be at the top of the hierarchy here and rule according to their desires.’
’Jeez. None of them is even level 30, yet they are so eager to reap the benefits of this changing world.’
’Too bad for you all. My new life’s motto is to ruin people like you.’
Axir didn’t know if all of them were bad or if there was an innocent sheep or two here being used for their skills by Jason’s father and the others, but one thing was for sure.
Jason’s father and the woman who spoke were not trustworthy.
And he had a simple, logical reason for it.
Their smell.
Figuratively, of course.
They smelled the same as them.
His current perception could perceive that aura.
It meant only one thing. One of them, or both of them, had accepted some sort of deal from the devil that came to visit them.
’I was offered a Pillar because only the 10th Pillar was empty. So what are other devils offering people to invite them? Sharing their powers somehow?’
"Nah. I don’t want to be a leader. I’ll protect the place, but I don’t want to manage anything. So leave me out of it," Axir waved his hand while smiling casually. "You should discuss development and stuff yourselves."
"I’ll take my leave now."
Axir left.
Jason’s father looked at Jason, and they exchanged glances, prompting Jason to follow Axir.
"So, what’s the plan, Axir?" Jason asked as he caught up to him outside.
"For starters, I’ll build my large palace north of this settlement, facing the river," Axir grinned and turned to Mio, Lexi, and Aoi. "You all can eat something first if you want, and come to me later. I’m gonna start building since I want to get it done first."
"You look eager to do it, brother." Mio blinked.
"Yep. I am going to make one hell of a manor." Axir grinned and left. "Come later."
"You two go first," Lexi said to Aoi and Mio.
"Let’s go, Mio."
Aoi and Mio left.
Jason approached Lexi.
"What’s the secret matter?" Lexi asked. She had received a message from Jason that he wanted to talk to her privately.
"Come with me."
Jason led Lexi to their crude house, which was not too far from the meeting pavilion.
"What’s going on with this secrecy?" Lexi frowned, confused.
"Look, everyone knows there are gods, but there are also devils!" Jason spoke in a hushed whisper. "Dad got a deck from a devil!"
"What?!" Lexi was shocked.
"Mom doesn’t know. She has been meditating and praying to God since the basic work was done. Don’t tell her about it."
Their mother, Kohana, was a true believer in gods and regularly visited shrines.
"Dad doesn’t want to let Mom know about it. But he accepted it because it was better to have some power in the new world to stay safe." 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
"I... got it," Lexi nodded. ’He doesn’t know about what I did with Axir. Should I tell him I am making a move on Axir? No, wait... Axir will still pretend like he loves Selena. Yeah. It’s better that this remains a secret.’
"So what kind of deck did Dad get?" Lexi asked curiously.
Jason shook his head. "I don’t know. He didn’t tell me the details, but he can apparently manipulate people to agree with his opinion naturally, and they obey him. It seems to be a control-type deck."
"That’s powerful!" Lexi’s eyes shone. "Can he control Axir with it?"
"I asked the same," Jason wryly smiled. "But he can only control people lower level than him and with lower stats than him. If they have higher stats or a higher level, they cannot be manipulated."
"But he can manipulate multiple people."
Axir, who was a kilometer away, chuckled to himself.
’Interesting. So that’s the case. Like father, like son. They are even justifying the devil.’
’Unfortunate for you, little shits. Nothing will go as you desire in this world as long as I am here.’
Arriving at the empty ground, Axir cracked his neck before stretching his arms and legs.
His weapons manifested and then disappeared, flying away.
One remained.
Ashveil Edge.
Axir’s finger blurred.
One second later, a huge square hole was dug up, earth flying upward. The manor’s foundation.
In seconds, sand, chopped wood, dirt, and blocks of stone started piling into the massive hole as his weapons flickered in and out of existence.
Axir yawned.
"One last rush before I can finally sleep."
