Apocalypse: Reborn with a Soul Sync Farming Space System-Chapter 67 There is Another Ally
Meanwhile, Camile and Mack stood on the 18th floor of a hotel building that was situated right outside Luxebridge city.
They stared down at the crowd of people who were standing in a long line, with their bags and luggage.
"A lot of people are coming in seeking refuge. At this rate, I fear we may run out of place." Camile said, her voice a little sharp and confident.
"Wasn’t this the plan? The more people that come to us, the higher chance we have in recruiting the superhumans among them." Mack said, his voice hoarse and deep.
"You are right... However, I keep feeling something is wrong with the events. The rain was supposed to come in the evening, however, it came in the morning... Could this mean the apocalypse is already here?" Camile muttered the last part under her breath.
She turned to Mack. "What about if there are too many? That would not only waste our space but it would also squander our resources."
Camile wanted a stricter rule, everyone could not be saved. It was only after the apocalypse that people started awakening their powers, and that meant the whole refugee camp would get shelter, food, and water.
"Do you take me for a fool?" Mack said in a low tone. "The people have good use, not only for me, but for a very good ally of mine."
Camile felt shivers down her spine. Mack’s voice was so ominous that she couldn’t help but take a few steps away from him.
"Ally? There is another ally apart from me." Camile felt betrayed.
"You don’t expect me to put all my trust and resources in just your plan, do you?" Mack’s lips tugged up slightly. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
A dangerous glint flickered through his eyes. "Send some of the refugees who passed the test to the military base in the north." He said, ordering the man in black standing beside the door.
The man bowed his head slightly, and headed straight out of the room, contacting someone through the wirephone on his ears.
"Military base? Why are we sending people there? Aren’t you even worried that the government would grow suspicious of our movement?" Camile said in a hushed voice, as if she didn’t want any other person to hear.
The Severance cult had been operating in the dark, no one really knew who they were. Which made it difficult for the government to find them for causing uproar and panic in the country.
"The world is changing, soon enough the government will be no more," Mack replied, a little too confident.
"Boss Mack, you might want to see this." One of the men guarding the door hurried before him with an iPad.
Mack turned slightly, to see what it was. His expression turned grim when a figure in a mask suddenly started speaking.
"Are you in panic and afraid you might die without knowing how? Do you believe that with the Severance cult, you would be safe?
The world is indeed coming to an end. But your survival depends on your own self.
The Severance cult isn’t what they claim to be. They are just looking for who would become their shields in the face of danger, and an army they could easily discard.
Haven’t you all wondered why they had never shown their faces? How can you trust someone you haven’t seen?
And you might wonder, aren’t I the same?
No, I’m not the same. I’m only hiding to protect myself. And I’ll tell you how to protect yourself during the apocalypse, save yourself, and don’t become an experiment and weapon for the Severance cult. Not to mention they will discard some of you, they don’t care about your lives, they only care about power and their own interests.
Start stockpiling food, clean water, weapons, fuel, hiking tools, clothes, and look for basements, buildings outside the city, preferably the mountains..."
Mack’s expression darkened. "Find out who the blogger is, this moment!"
His chest rose and fell in anger, his gaze moved to Camile who was surprised as he was.
"You said you are the only one who was aware of the apocalypse coming, how come there is another person?
Are you double-playing me?"
Mack’s voice was low, but it sent terror through the air.
Camile shook her head. "It wasn’t me and I have been with you all this while, there is no way I would do that." She quickly said.
"Perhaps the person is just trying to throw shades at us, and maybe gain some fame." She added, but she paused.
"The other... ally, you mentioned earlier, he must also be aware of the apocalypse right?"
"Camile," Mack warned.
"You can suspect me, and I can’t suspect the people you are working with?" Camile replied.
Before Mack could speak, one of his men ran inside. "Boss," he called.
Mack gave him a curt nod.
"We can’t trace the signal."
Mack’s eyes narrowed. "What do you mean you can’t?"
"The signal keeps jumping locations. One moment it shows south, the next it disappears completely, showing in the east. It’s like the broadcast isn’t coming from a fixed point."
Another man, who looked more like a technician spoke up, his voice laced with unease. "Whoever is behind this knows how to cover their tracks, we end up finding nothing even after following the signal."
"Continue searching for the location. I didn’t hire you for nothing." Mack barked at them, finally losing his cool.
The men scurried away.
He turned to Camile, but the next second her phone rang.
"Pick up the call, go on," Mack said when he sensed Camile’s reluctance to answer the call.
Camile knew the caller must be Ronan. He had been disturbing her with the phone call, since she got mad at him for giving her a frozen card.
When she brought the phone out of her bag, and of a truth, it really was Ronan.
She answered the call, but Mack told her to put it on a speaker.
"Hello." Ronan’s voice rang from the other end the moment the call connected.
"Yes," Camile replied, not bothering to hide the annoyance in her voice.
"I have money now. So don’t hang up on me." Ronan’s voice rang from the other end in desperation.
