Chapter 121: Mutated Beast

It was a daunting situation that would strike fear into most, but for General Kaiser, it was merely an exhilarating experience.

He laughed at the sight of the ugly creature poised to tear him apart.

The more dangerous the situation became, the calmer he felt; he had always been this way.

He didn’t panic, for he had faced these mutated beasts since his days in Willow Village.

The mutated beasts were powerful, with thick skin that bullets couldn’t penetrate and an astonishing ability to heal, making them nearly impossible to kill.

However, their insides were surprisingly fragile, which proved to be their weakness. If he could inflict serious damage to their insides, they would die easily.

If Elena knew that General Kaiser had already discovered the weaknesses of the mutated creatures, she would undoubtedly applaud his keen observation.

The real challenge now was figuring out how to damage their insides. They were not stupid; their instincts had been enhanced the moment they mutated.

As he watched the mutated alligator open its wide mouth, he quickly devised a risky plan to inflict harm from within, knowing it could endanger him as well.

"F*ck off!" he shouted, hurling a explosive into its mouth."

BOOM!

A deafening explosion echoed through the area, sending the flesh of the mutated alligator splattering across the water as General Kaiser was thrown back by the blast.

He struggled to find a stable spot. After a few frantic swims, he spotted an elevated area with the roof of a nearby store in view.

Gasping for air and wincing from the wounds in his right shoulder and chest sustained in the blast, he scanned his surroundings for any sign that the mutated alligator was dead.

The military personnel who witnessed the scene from a distance were dumbfounded by the sudden shift in atmosphere.

The General had been on the verge of being eaten, but he had turned the tables and defeated the enormous alligator.

"That..."

"Is the alligator finally dead?"

"I suppose the grenade should have killed it."

Cheers erupted from the crowd, a mix of relief and admiration for his bravery in killing the alligator.

But now, the pressing matter was his own condition—was he still alive?

Well, that was everyone’s thought, including General Kaiser, that the mutated alligator had died.

As he rested on the roof, he noticed the water beginning to bubble with a black substance, and a dark spot was growing larger.

Suddenly, he saw the head of the alligator reemerging, poised to pounce once more.

"Your tenacity is truly remarkable; you’re still alive after all," General Kaiser sneered, raising his gun. It was a do-or-die situation.

*******

On the other hand, Elena and the others arrived just in time to see an enormous alligator pounce on a man.

Moments later, an explosion erupted, sending him hurtling near them.

Taken aback, she retrieved a telescope for a clearer view.

To her surprise, she saw General Kaiser.

’What is he doing here?’

"’Take a look; I think I saw someone you’re familiar with,’" she said.

Ethan raised his brows and then checked the situation through the telescope. He was also surprised to see the man.

"General Kaiser is here."

"Yeah, what really happened here? He’s fighting a mutated alligator."

"Let’s go ask him."

They quickly drove the motorboat toward General Kaiser, but when Oslo saw him draw his gun, he paused, waiting for Elena’s instruction as they assessed the situation.

Elena sensed the tension surrounding General Kaiser and quickly retrieved a machine gun from her space.

"Quick, arm yourself! The alligator is still alive."

Ethan took the machine gun, ready to fire the moment he had a clear view of the alligator.

"Aim for its eyes," Elena instructed, hefting the heavy machine gun as she prepared to fire.

The easiest way to deal with the mutated beast was to shoot its eyes, the thinnest part that could be damaged easily.

While Elena and the others were preparing themselves, General Kaiser was devising a plan as he aimed his gun, ready to shoot at the mutated alligator.

"Heh, come on, let’s finish this battle. I almost vomited at the sight of your ugly form."

Seeing the enormous alligator leap, with its left arm badly injured and a hole visible in its body, he couldn’t help but chuckle.

Despite its injuries, the creature was miraculously alive, growling at him. Instead of opening its mouth, this time its claw lunged forward, ready to hack at him.

’They’re getting smarter.’

But before he could fire, a string of gunshots could be heard from behind, hitting the mutated alligator mercilessly.

It roared in pain and growled as it retreated into the water, but they wouldn’t let it escape, unleashing everything they had on its already exposed stomach, making it easy to inflict further damage.

After a few seconds of relentless gunfire, the area was stained with a black substance, and the alligator’s body floated to the surface, signaling that it was dead.

General Kaiser sighed; it was finally over.

He turned back, surprised to see the brat and his wife, along with Oslo and a woman he didn’t recognize.

So, Brother Elias was right: Elena was indeed the woman the heavens had been pointing to.

’Why would the heavens want to eradicate her?’

"Brat, it’s good to finally see you! It’s been a long time since we last met," General Kaiser said with a smile, greeting them enthusiastically despite wincing in pain.

"Thank you both for your help earlier."

Seeing him looking fine, Ethan sighed in relief.

"Well, it’s good to see you alive, General Kaiser," Ethan replied with a hint of disdain.

This old bachelor kept calling him ’brat’ in front of his wife, which left him feeling a bit dissatisfied.

Elena chuckled and then looked at General Kaiser seriously. "Why are you here, Gen... Uncle Kaiser?"

She had almost called him formally, but remembered her promise to address him as her uncle, so she immediately corrected herself.

"We’re on a rescue mission," General Kaiser explained. "The marine institute sent a distress call that their building was flooded."

His expression turned serious as he continued, "We need to get there quickly to assess the situation and help anyone who might be trapped."

Upon hearing this, Lydia felt distressed and immediately asked, "What’s the situation? How are the scientists at the institute?"

"I don’t know yet. As you can see, I’m here to lure this alligator," General Kaiser replied, noticing Lydia’s anxious expression.

He tried to reassure her with a steady gaze. "But don’t worry, we made it in time. There shouldn’t be too many casualties."

"You can talk later; let’s tend to your injury first," Ethan said as he quickly led him to their motorboat. Oslo was already there, ready to clean and bandage the wound.

General Kaiser explained what happened at the Marine Institute.

While they talked, Elena stored the body of the mutated alligator in her [Inventory] to check later if it had a core.

After that, they took the motorboat and headed towards the rescued marine institute personnel.

"Wow, you’re living well in this disaster! Look at this roofed motorboat and the snacks inside. I feel like you guys are just touring around, What are you doing here?" General Kaiser exclaimed, looking at the motorboat with a hearty laugh.

"Not really. We just found this one floating, so we took it for ourselves. Who would have thought I’d be so lucky? By the way, Uncle, this is my friend Lydia. We’re here to see Lydia’s parents," Elena said, bluntly lying as she introduced Lydia.

"Hello, young lady. You can call me Uncle Kaiser, just like Elena," he said with a warm smile.

"Hello, Uncle. Thank you for rescuing my parents," Lydia replied gratefully.

"Nah, thank me later, once we find your parents," General Kaiser said, waving off her thanks with a chuckle.

After the brief introduction, Ethan interrupted them, brimming with questions.

"By the way, General, what are you doing here on Military A?" Ethan asked, puzzled.

He was supposed to be with the military in City D, so he wondered how they ended up serving in Military A now.

"Long story, it’s all about the Heather family," General Kaiser said, frustration evident in his voice.

Elena’s interest was piqued at the mention of her long-time enemies. Eager to learn more, she couldn’t help but want to ask for updates on them.

"We are all ears," Ethan replied, noticing his wife’s curious expression. He chuckled and held her hand.

"To be brief, they’re trying to make the military in City D their new fortress. That’s based on my observation," General Kaiser continued.

He then explained how the Heather family had built a bunker to consolidate their power and integrate their people within the military.

"They seem to be aware of this disaster," Ethan remarked.

"Haist, brat, there are some unexplained things in this world, and the Heather family is one of the few with mysterious abilities. I’ve told you many times that this world is full of wonders. But still, you won’t listen to your Uncle, believing everything should be based on science," General Kaiser replied, shaking his head.

Ethan glanced at him with a cold expression, but ultimately believed him this time.

He understood that there were things in the world that defied explanation, and the proof was right in front of him—his wife.
