Apocalyptic World: Surviving with my husband and my cute little babies-Chapter 283: Reports
Back on Ethan’s side, he finally entered Building A through the rear entrance, carrying his wife with Butler Aki by his side.
Along the way, he noticed the tension gripping the residents.
According to Butler Aki, it was because waves of refugees were flooding into the building instead of heading to the military evacuation center.
Well, the military center was already overflowing—crowds packed tightly together, long lines stretching, with no guarantee that everyone would be allowed inside.
Others had tried seeking refuge at the government center, only to be turned away, leaving Building A as their final option.
Now, even the main entrance had lines forming, as desperate refugees gathered, hoping to find shelter within.
So Jetro quickly tightened security to its highest level, stationing well-fed, strong guards throughout the building—personnel capable of repelling anyone who tried to take advantage of the chaos.
Although the military officers had withdrawn their direct support for now, as the military center needed them, the building remained surprisingly stable.
What Ethan didn’t know was how much effort Jetro had poured into maintaining that stability.
Jetro had supplied the guards with weapons, ensured they were fed, and made it clear to whom they answered.
Under his leadership—and with the backing of his trusted police comrades—Building A had become a united front.
Residents cooperated, outsiders were kept in check, and common threats were swiftly dealt with.
Jetro ruled the building with absolute authority.
Meanwhile, the moment Jetro learned that Ethan had arrived, he immediately paused his meeting with his subordinates and rushed downstairs.
His sudden departure sparked curiosity, and several of his team members followed close behind.
What they witnessed left them stunned.
Their normally strict and intimidating boss was speaking respectfully to a masked man carrying someone in his arms.
"Chief, you’re here," Jetro said with a slight bow. "The unit is ready. Please follow me."
"Thank you, Comrade Jetro," Ethan replied calmly. "It seems you’re managing this building well."
"It’s only possible because of you," Jetro said sincerely. "With enough supplies, we’ve been able to maintain order here. You’re truly a blessing to us, Ethan—and thank you for reaching out to me back then."
When disaster struck and supplies became scarce, Ethan could have turned a blind eye after meeting him again.
Yet he chose to help him. For that, Jetro was deeply grateful.
Through Ethan, he was able to meet Elena and become contracted by the Golden Tablet.
Elena also provided them with supplies, allowing him and his comrades to live far better than most.
The food she gave had completely changed their standing within the building. Without it, everything would have collapsed long ago.
There had been many attempts to challenge Jetro’s authority in Building A. However, with the Paradise Shop backing him—and with the supplies he had—most troublemakers quickly backed down.
As for those who couldn’t be reasoned with, they were simply expelled and permanently banned from living in Building A.
"Congratulations, Chief, to you and Elena on the birth of your triplets. By the way, how is your wife?"
"Thank you. Elena is fine—she just needs to keep resting. Alright, enough with the thanks. You also helped us a lot," Ethan said.
Despite everything, Jetro was still the same comrade he had always known—reliable and trustworthy.
"Now give me an update on Building A, and any news from the military side."
"Understood," Jetro replied, but before reporting, he dismissed his team first, who had been quietly watching from nearby.
Letting them know too much about Ethan would only complicate matters.
After all, Ethan and Elena intended to remain in the shadows, stepping in only when a situation went beyond everyone else’s ability to handle.
"Ahem. Return to your posts. We’ll continue the discussion later," Jetro ordered.
The moment their boss spoke, everyone quickly dispersed. No one wanted to risk drawing his ire.
Once they were alone, Jetro led Ethan upstairs and started his report.
"As for Building A—out of the sixty permanent residents, thirty suddenly fell unconscious. They’re currently under close observation."
Jetro was already familiar with this situation. If nothing went wrong, these people would likely awaken abilities, just as Elena had foreseen.
Hearing this, Ethan was taken aback. According to Elena, the first batch of awakeners was supposed to be a small number.
"And the military?" Ethan asked.
"To be honest, I don’t have exact numbers," Jetro admitted. "But based on reports from the Paradise kids monitoring the military side, it’s also a significant amount."
Ethan felt that Elena’s prediction had been off—or perhaps the future itself had changed. Or maybe something had triggered this sudden mass awakening.
"Continue monitoring them," Ethan said. "You’ll be in charge of this, as Oslo and Xander are currently unavailable."
Jetro sighed. He couldn’t help but feel a trace of envy toward Oslo and Xander and their soon-to-awaken abilities.
But the feeling faded quickly.
He was grateful he hadn’t fallen unconscious—otherwise, managing the building would have become a serious problem. Worse, it would only add to Ethan’s already heavy burden.
"Roger, Chief."
Soon after, Jetro opened a unit on the second-highest floor.
It was to ensure that Ethan and Elena would not be disturbed by the residents below.
Seeing that the essentials and some basic equipment were already prepared, Ethan immediately carried his wife into the bedroom and carefully laid her down so she could rest properly. He gently kissed her forehead before quietly leaving the room.
The unit’s layout was identical to their previous home. Building A and Building C shared the same structure, so it took Ethan no effort to familiarize himself.
Portable cooling devices were also installed, keeping the temperature stable, as the heat outside had yet to subside despite the ongoing eclipse.
"Jetro, if you have other matters to attend to, you can go," Ethan said.
"Understood. I’ll report again once there are updates."
Moments later, Jetro left the unit to resume his meeting with his team.
With him gone, Ethan finally turned his attention to their own situation.
They had been running nonstop the entire day—too many unexpected developments, too many troublesome people trying to corner them. Only now did they have a moment to breathe.
"Butler Aki, please give me your report."
"Understood, Master," Butler Aki replied.
"First, as discussed earlier, I’ve retrieved the remaining jades and antiques from the shops and stored them inside Paradise. However, there weren’t many left—both the military shop and the one here were insufficient. Our daily operations inside Paradise still require more."
He had personally witnessed the moment when the spiritual items in the Southern Inventory Sector vanished, condensed into pure spiritual essence, and left nothing behind.
Fortunately, the shops had not yet transferred their stock, giving them a small reserve.
"I see. I’ll coordinate with the military later and exchange supplies for more spiritual items. With so many refugees gathering there, they’ll definitely need resources."
"Noted, Master."
"How many of our people are unconscious?" Ethan asked.
"Quite a lot," Butler Aki replied honestly. "It’s seriously affecting our operations. Aside from the elderly and a few children, most of our people are currently undergoing awakening."
"Andrei and Sera are overseeing things there now, monitoring their condition," he continued.
"Ramon has gone to the Paradise shop at the military center to pass instructions to the Paradise kids, replacing Lieutenant Fern. You call him, right?"
"I did. He’s currently monitoring Building C," Ethan replied. "And Andrei is with him."
"Alright. Then the elderly are handling operations inside Paradise while caring for the young masters," Butler Aki said.
At the mention of his sons, Ethan couldn’t help but miss them. He sighed—he couldn’t leave his wife, and there was still so much to do.
"Master Anthony has taken over the Southern Inventory Sector in my place. Jetro is managing this building while coordinating with Ramon at the military center. As for me, I’m coordinating updates with everyone and storing items from both shops."
Ethan nodded. "You’ve done well. Thank you for your hard work."
"There’s no need for thanks, Master," Butler Aki replied humbly.
He only hoped to finish his tasks soon, so he could see the three young masters sleeping peacefully inside the space.
"For now, we’ll lie low," Ethan said. "We won’t open the shop yet. We’ll wait until the eclipse ends and the situation stabilizes. Our priority for now is to make sure Paradise runs smoothly and that our team awakens safely."
"Understood, Master." Butler Aki hesitated, then asked, "If I may—how long do you think this eclipse will last?"
"I’m not sure," Ethan replied. "But I believe it won’t—"
Boom!
Before he could finish, an explosion tore through the Building C area.
At first, he thought the clash between the two abbots outside had intensified once more with their elemental powers crashing into each other.
But when Lieutenant Fern reported the situation, everything changed—an uninvited guest had entered the fight, turning the already chaotic battle into something far more troublesome.
’Of all days... why now?’
His gaze suddenly went cold as he watched Building C. "Notify everyone and prepare for battle."
