Apocalyptic World: Surviving with my husband and my cute little babies-Chapter 292: Strange Ability(1)
After Elena soothed the two brothers, they finally stopped competing, looking up at her with pure trust and enthusiasm.
"Mommy loves you both equally, so there’s no need to fight for my attention," she sighed, chuckling softly at herself for explaining such things to the babies.
But she knew words alone weren’t enough. She had to let her actions guide them—so they would grow up caring for one another.
Raising children was never easy. Yet despite everything, she was willing to give it her all, just to see their innocent, beautiful smiles.
Soon after, Finn drifted into a deep sleep. His breathing became soft and steady, and a small, satisfied smile lingered on his lips.
Ethan then gently pulled a small blanket to cover both Leo and Finn, making sure they were warm and comfortable.
’Two down, one to go.’
Now, he could finally have his wife’s full attention.
That was the plan, at least. But watching how alert and energetic their youngest son still was, Ethan could only sigh inwardly and hope that Max would soon follow his brothers into sleep.
"Done. You’ve already finished your ration," Elena said gently. "It’s time for Max to burp, then go to sleep."
Max immediately protested, squirming in her arms and fussing for more.
Unlike his older brothers—who usually listened after being soothed—this little one was stubborn about what he wanted.
Seeing him so restless, Elena’s heart ached. She instinctively nodded to Ethan, assuming the baby was still hungry and needed another bottle.
But Ethan, already familiar with his youngest son’s tricks, quickly stopped her.
The last time, he had given in and fed him an extra bottle—but the consequences followed soon.
He still remembered how, after finishing the extra bottle, the baby had acted cute again—looking up at him with wide, innocent eyes, as if he were still hungry.
Unable to resist, Ethan gave in once more.
Not long after, an indoor plant nearby suddenly burst into bloom, sprouting a strange, unique flower that hadn’t been there just moments ago.
And Max himself became unnaturally energetic, his tiny body buzzing with a restless power.
Then, without warning, the energy vanished. Max lost consciousness, his face turning a deathly pale.
The sudden chaos threw everyone into a panic.
Luckily, the baby soon recovered on his own—but the incident made Ethan much stricter with them.
"Wife, I strongly disagree," he said firmly. "Trust me—he’s not hungry."
Elena frowned, looking down at Max with worry and confusion. "If he’s not hungry, then why is he crying? Is something wrong with our youngest?"
"It’s complicated," Ethan replied, rubbing his temples. "The more spiritual milk he drinks, the more strange things start to happen."
He then told her everything that had happened when Max was fed more than five bottles.
Hearing the full story, Elena finally understood. Her youngest son’s ability... was far from ordinary.
"You know, in our past life, babies were still born—but only a few managed to survive," Elena said quietly, her tone heavy with memory.
"Those who lived only manifested their abilities when they were five to eight years old. Scientists in City G believed it was because a baby’s body wasn’t ready to hold a core yet. In that way, it was safer—since babies wouldn’t be able to control such power."
She paused before continuing.
"As far as I know, the youngest human to ever awaken was only two years old. He lived in a small suburban town plagued by mutated pests. In my past life, the story was well known for that child was treated like a god—praised for protecting his town. Imagine that... a two-year-old protecting an entire town."
"Then he must’ve had a powerful ability," Ethan said, unease creeping into his voice as Elena grew more serious.
"He did," she replied softly. "Too powerful. So people started coveting him, wanted to take him for themselves. But one day, he lost control."
Her fingers tightened unconsciously.
"He killed everyone in the town. It was gruesome—completely wiped out. Later, it was discovered that his ability was a form of absorption. He drained all the life force in the area, turning the town into a wasteland, filled with death energy."
She could never forget that place—not just because of the tragedy, but because six years later, it would become one of the aliens’ main bases.
"What does that have to do with our youngest?" Ethan asked, though he already had a bad feeling.
Elena looked at him directly, no longer hiding anything. "After that incident, I never heard of anyone with the same ability in my past life. But when you told me about Max—how a tree in the space withered while newly planted ones suddenly flourished—I couldn’t ignore the similarity."
Her voice lowered, looking at the tiny, adorable Max. "They might have the same variant ability. They could—"
"Manipulate energy," Ethan finished, his expression darkening. "That might explain why I feel energized whenever I’m near him. He may be unconsciously transferring that spiritual energy to me."
Fear flashed across Elena’s face at the thought of the same fate befalling her baby. She quickly gathered Max into her arms, holding him tightly.
"Baby," she whispered tenderly, kissing him again and again. "Mommy will make sure you live well. You just need to be happy, okay?"
She would never allow history to repeat itself.
Unaware of his parents’ silent terror, Max smiled brightly, perfectly content to have all their attention to himself.
"Do we have any way to make his ability dormant for now—until he’s ready to use it?" Ethan asked, his voice tense.
Elena fell silent for a moment before answering. She remembered a bracelet designed to suppress abilities, but it hadn’t been developed yet.
"There is," she said slowly, "but it won’t exist for another three years. And even then, it was created by someone from the Techno Base in City G."
"Three years is far too long," Ethan said, frowning. "We need a solution now. What if we look for them? Maybe we can persuade them to work for us."
Elena shook her head. "That’s the problem. I don’t know their name. I only know they were a famous technomancer in my past life. I brought a few of their devices, but we never had any formal contact."
She paused, then added honestly, "Back then, we were too busy managing our own base. By the time we considered negotiating, the Techno Base was already gone."
Seeing the worry etched on Ethan’s face, she quickly spoke again, offering reassurance.
"Don’t panic. They’re my sons, and they’re connected to me through the Golden Tablet. I might be able to use it to guide—or suppress—their abilities for now, until we find a way."
Ethan’s eyes lifted, relief flooding through him as his wife once again found a solution.
It was frustrating—when it came to abilities, there was little he could do on his own.
All he could do was hope they would soon uncover a lead on the technomancer.
Now, his mission was clear: find them, for the sake of their baby’s safety.
