Chapter 47 - 47 Just Another Terrible Morning

Olivia ran down the hallway, her breath ragged, her heart hammering in her chest. The memory of Klaus, blood dripping from his nose, his furious yet amused gaze burning into her, replayed in her mind. She would be as good as dead if she was caught by him.

She made it to her room, then she gently slamming the door shut behind her. She pressed her back against the door, breathing heavily. Her gaze staring at her roommates who were asleep.

"What the hell was that?" she muttered, her fingers unconsciously clenching into fists.

She could still feel the heat of his breath, the way he had trapped her, the way he made her feel small yet challenged her at the same time. A shiver ran down her spine—not from fear, but from something else she refused to name.

She shook her head aggressively. "No. Not happening. He's just messing with me."

With a frustrated sigh, she tiptoed into bed, hoping she wouldn't wake up any of her roommates. As the chill of the bed welcomed her, her mind drifting away, she hoped the sleep would wipe away the lingering sensation of Klaus's presence.

The morning was crisp, but Olivia's mood was anything but fresh. She had spent the night tossing and turning, haunted by confusing emotions and even more confusing fragments of forgotten memories.

By the time she woke up, her roommates had already left the class. This was the best gift of the day, she wasn't ready for an interrogation.

Dressed in the academy's uniform, a black t-shirt and dark navy trousers— she wondered why they had to wear something like this, but she didn't dwell on it as she proceeded to tie her hair into a messy bun and grabbed her bag.

She had two goals today:

No 1. Avoid Alexa and Klaus at all costs. She wasn't ready for another confrontation.

No 2. Survive class without drawing too much attention.

Unfortunately, fate wasn't on her side. As soon as she stepped into the lecture hall, the whispers started.

"Look, it's the girl who thinks she's special."

"She fainted after running away. How pathetic."

"I heard she got special treatment from Klaus, it must be nice to be the center of his attention."

Olivia's fingers curled tightly around the strap of her bag, but she ignored the comments. She had learned the hard way that reacting only gave bullies more power.

She moved towards the farthest empty seat, but before she could sit...

Thud!

A foot stuck out at the last second, sending her stumbling forward. Her hands hit the cold marble floor, her bag spilling its contents.

Laughter erupted.

Olivia gritted her teeth, inhaling sharply. She refused to give them the satisfaction of seeing her break.

Instead, she pushed herself up slowly, dusted off her uniform, and met their sneering gazes head-on.

"Is that the best you can do?" she said, her voice firm despite the slight tremor in her fingers.

The laughter died down slightly, some students exchanging glances. They had expected her to cower, not challenge them.

Olivia's eyes momentarily locked with those of her twin, Freya, who seemed to enjoy watching others bully her. Freya smirked at her, one filled with malicious intent.

Before anyone could react, the professor entered, forcing them to settle down. Olivia grabbed her things, her fingers brushing against a small, folded piece of paper among her scattered books.

Frowning, she opened it under the desk.

"Stay away from Klaus. You don't belong here."

Her stomach twisted, but she showed no reaction. There was no name on the paper, so the identity of the sender remained a mystery. She took a deep breath, then, she shoved the note into her pocket and focused on the lesson.

Today's class was geography. It was essential to know the geographical location of low level monsters and high level monsters.

" My name is Micah Willocks, and I am your geography teacher." A slender man with brown dark curly hair started. His brown eyes sparkled under his spectacle.

" This will be your first class with me, as you all have passed the test, so you can as well say, you are at the bottom of the food chain." He pushed his glasses up, before a scowl formed on his lips. His eyes gaze at every single student in the class.

The students shifted in their seats from the tension. They felt as if his gaze would burn them alive.

" Since the monster's uprising, the earth's disposition has changed greatly. That's why you must learn its differences and form, in order to become a good soldier and hunter..."

By the time the bell rang, signaling break, Olivia was exhausted, not from class, but from the constant stares and whispered insults.

She stepped into the hallway, sighing as she leaned against a pillar. She just needed a moment of peace. But of course, that wasn't going to happen.

"Enjoying your fame?"

The voice sent a jolt down her spine.

She turned, and there he was... Klaus Reyes, looking completely unbothered, as if yesterday's incident had never happened.

His nose was perfectly fine, like he hadn't bled at all.

She crossed her arms and narrowed her eyes. "What do you want?"

He smirked, stepping closer. "Relax, I'm not here for revenge. Yet."

Olivia tensed, her muscles coiling like a spring.

"Your little stunt yesterday," he continued, voice laced with amusement, "was entertaining."

She scoffed, rolling her eyes inwardly "Glad I could be your source of entertainment. Now, if you'll excuse me..."

His hand shot out, grabbing her wrist before she could walk past him.

The touch sent a shockwave through her body, a strange sense of déjà vu striking her hard.

For a split second, she saw something else—a blurry image, a warm touch, a white-haired boy smiling at her.

Her head buzzed. 'What was that?'

She yanked her hand away, ignoring the way her pulse betrayed her.

Klaus watched her with keen interest. "You're different."

Olivia took a step back, inhaling deeply. "And you're annoying."

He chuckled. "Fair enough."

Before she could respond, a voice interrupted them.

"Olivia Donovan, report to the principal's office immediately."

The hallway fell silent. Olivia's blood ran cold. Her thoughts ran everywhere.' Is this because I left the school to hunt monsters... or because I saw a secret that I was never meant to see?' Her brows furrowed, her legs hesitant to take a step forward. Her lips refused to reply to the voice.

She turned back to Klaus, only to find him smirking. Enjoying her plight "Good luck," he mused, stepping aside with a mock bow.

Her fingers twitched, but she had no choice.

With every pair of eyes in the hallway locked on her, she walked forward, heading to what felt like an inevitable storm.
