Arcane Academy: The Divine Extraction Legacy-Chapter 989: Recruitment
Chapter 989: Recruitment
Over the next few days, news of a mysterious Shadow Immortal lodging at the Still Flame Inn spread like wildfire through the upper echelons of Hymn City.
A Shadow Immortal with no recorded affiliations, no known sect or clan backing, and who had not only sold Greater Demon Saint Horns but also purchased massive quantities of materials in the Central Market Tower.
It was enough to draw some attention.
Although he was only a Lesser Immortal, it was still a lot better for them. After all, it means that Vale might actually need Shadow Immortal Spells in order to advance to an Earth Immortal.
On the fourth morning, Vale was enjoying a quiet cup of blue-leaf tea on the balcony of his room when the first knock came.
Vale was already used to it and decided to let the visitor enter.
The first visitor of this day was a young, elegant woman wearing silver-lined robes. Her presence barely showed that she was an Immortal but Vale didn’t miss it at all.
"Vale?" she asked.
"That’s me."
"I am Ilsera Dawnveil, emissary of the Silver Quill Pavilion. We specialize in Artificing, Arcane Research, and the creation of Shadowscript. Our Pavilion is offering you full membership, along with a stipend of 10 Divine Crystals and 10,000 Arcane Crystals per month, access to three exclusive Spell Archives, and a private lab in the floating Library Isle."
At this point, Vale already heard about this floating library or what they simply call Library Isle. It wasn’t owned by one organization or person but it was owned by multiple Clans, Sects, Pavilions, and other organizations.
Because there were so many organizations vying for space within the floating island where the library was, it wasn’t easy to just give a new recruit access to that place.
So far, there were only four organizations willing to offer him a spot in the Library Isle.
"Sounds generous..." Vale said. "And what would I do in return?"
Ilsera smiled after realizing that Vale was quite straightforward. It was better to be like this for an easier negotiation.
"We’d like your help deciphering pre-astral runes and developing interdimensional binding arrays. Perhaps occasional Shadow Recon missions in the outer realms."
Vale gently nodded. He was also aware that this land had access to other realms. However, all of the realms that have access don’t have any human realms at all. It could be demons, beastkin, undead, vampires, and other races but never human.
Vale raised an eyebrow. "And what Shadow Immortal Spell would I receive as a member?"
Ilsera smiled. "Depending on your merit points, you could gain access to the Spell Models of Oblivion Chain Veil or Shadow Devouring Net. Each requires 50,000 merit points earned through missions or completed S-Class research tasks."
Vale thanked her, accepted a scroll of membership details, and saw her off.
He decided not to join just yet as he wanted to see the offers of all other organizations. Thankfully, they all understood since they would also do the same if they got into such a position.
’Still... I just feel that something’s off... It doesn’t feel right that they’re all trying to recruit me.’ Vale mused.
Although they didn’t seem desperate with their recruitment since they still had to make him work hard for the Shadow Immortal Spells, he just couldn’t help but notice that there was something more to this.
Anyway, after this meeting, later that afternoon, the second visitor arrived.
This time, it was a broad-shouldered man wearing a cloak made from the skin of a mystical creature that Vale wasn’t aware of...
After confirming that he was speaking to Vale, the man finally introduced himself.
"I’m Commander Jurhan from the Abyss Watch Guild. We patrol spatial tears, hunt Dimensional Creatures, and guard forbidden relic sites. In short, we work for other organizations like an escort or security agency..."
At this point, Vale already knew why only the Overseer was aware of his arrival through a different realm; it was actually because of the method he used.
After all, the method he obtained was through another Shadow Realm’s resident who had been lost or trapped in the human realm.
Soon, Jurhan plopped down a crate in front of Vale.
With his Spirit Vision and Divine Sense, Vale confirmed that inside were thirty Spirit Beast Essences, one High-Tier Shadow Dagger, and a vial labeled: Void Distillation Serum - Shadow Variant.
"All this, 10 Divine Crystals and 5,000 Arcane Crystals monthly. Plus, one day of access every six months in the Floating Isle and, of course, a personalized room in our Guild House.
Vale gently nodded as he found the items valuable. It must be remembered that High-Tier Arcane Tool was equivalent to the Sovereign Artifact of the human realm. It was definitely generous.
"And my responsibilities?"
"Frontier patrols. Maybe a bit of monster assassination. We do what no one else wants to. You’d lead a Shadow Response Squad."
"What about the Shadow Immortal spells I can learn?"
Jurhan grinned after hearing this.
"We offer Blackrift Prison and Darkpulse Nova to high-level members. You’ll need 40,000 merit points, or 20 successful Dimensional Creatures purges. There are others but these two are the best if you enjoy fighting... You will not lose with these Spells."
Jurhan then paused.
"Wait... Did you already kill one... I think I just smelled a Dimensional Creature." Jurhan asked.
Vale immediately thought of an answer and waved his hand. Then, he showed the Rift Blade... It was an item he extracted from Dimensional Creatures together with other space-type Spells.
"I was experimenting on this thing. It should be made of Dimensional Creature’s body parts.
As soon as Jurhan saw this, his eyes lit up.
"Ohhh! This is nice... Then you’ll have an advantage! You should join us!"
Jurhan then couldn’t help but show off his Reaper Gauntlet from his Storage Ring. It was also from a Dimensional Creature but its grade was higher than what Vale had just shown.
"Mine is from a high-tier dimensional creature but I can tell that the blade that you have had a better blacksmith... It looked so perfect. Who made this thing?"
