Babies' Secret: My Ex Wants Me Back!-Chapter 86: Empty
Chapter 86: Empty
Chapter 86 - Empty
Life or... People have a way of discarding people when the person is not useful anymore—thrown away, forgotten, and maliciously talked about.
Everything had been hazy since the incident, which was two days ago. Marcus wasn’t picking up her calls, and her father was still in a coma, hadn’t woken up.
The investors had pulled out of the company, and it was on the brink. There was nothing she could do. Her father, who was always there, was on the hospital bed fighting for his life.
And her—she couldn’t go outside now because of something she was afraid of. Paparazzi were stalking her, and everywhere she went, curses and stones were thrown at her.
And yet, Aaron never looked back at her, never called her after that day.
Why?
Why?
Why?
Why?
Why?
Why?
Why was she the only one getting backlash? Why did everything turn to this?
But how did the video get released? Was it Marcus? Marcus couldn’t do that—she shook her head, nibbling her fingers harshly, not feeling the pain from the opened skin.
Was it Aaron? Did Aaron know? Even if he knew, Aaron couldn’t stoop so low to do that because it would affect him too.
But who could do that?!
And yet the news of her divorce had been trending in the news—her sex leak, then her divorce. People saying she deserved it. No man wants a cheater as a wife. But no one knows or understands what’s going on underground.
They believe what they want to believe.
They were both cheaters. Aaron cheated on her with that bitch. She was very sure that bitch was at the corner of her house, laughing, jubilating in triumph at her dismay.
Her misfortune.
Amanda didn’t even have the energy to get angry or pity herself right now—her emotions were a jumbled mess. She wanted to scream, tear her hair and face off. She wanted to close her eyes and forget everything, but it was impossible because right now the press were expecting her to show her face for the conference to say something from her side.
Aaron’s side said they had nothing to say about the incident or divorce—they’d be happy if people respected their decision. And there was her... who didn’t even know what to do with the confrontation.
What would she say? A mistake? A blackmail? A—who wanted to hear it?
Even her father, paying for oxygen on the hospital bed, had that disgusted look on his face.
Amanda pulled herself closer, wrapping her arms around herself. She needed someone. Someone. Someone to save her. To help her. To pull her from the pit she was drowning in.

Katherine couldn’t count how many times she had taken breaks from work in the past two and a half months. It was like impromptu breaks were now her favorite thing, and thanks to Mathew being a big support, a big friend of hers who always overlooked everything. freēnovelkiss.com
Smiled softly at her, hugged her gently, and told her to take her time. That he didn’t want her to stress herself—just take time.
Katherine rubbed her temple dejectedly, couldn’t wait to get back to work and forget everything—dwell in work. Thank the one in heaven that both Amanda and Aaron had checked out of the hotel. So there was no way they would reopen the pain in her chest that she had plastered.
Katherine hadn’t checked her phone. She didn’t have the strength to see messages or calls on her phone because if she got hold of her phone, she didn’t know whether she could stop herself from calling and crying and asking why did he have to do that? Why did he come back? Why did everything get so messy? She was really doing well all these years. She had been doing okay, good for herself and children, and yet the moment he came back, everything spiraled away.
The moment Aaron left her apartment that morning, Katherine had to slap herself hard multiple times to stop herself from running after Aaron. She had to stop herself from crying more, yet tears continued to drool from her eyes.
Beer that she promised not to touch, that she told her therapist she had left alone, became her buddy, and she was really grateful for Mathew in her life because her kids, who could have held her back from drowning in alcohol, were now staying with Mathew.
Alcohol was the only thing that could make her forget everything, numb the pain, make the ache vanish for a while before it came back tenfold.
Two days passed in a blur as Katherine pulled herself up. She was sure her eyes were bloodshot from crying, her voice would be hoarse from screaming, cursing, yelling for Aaron. Cursing Aaron for betraying her, screaming at herself for falling again, and yelling at how fucked up she was.
Katherine dragged her weak body to the bathroom, her legs wobbly as she entered the shower. She caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror, and her stomach nearly coiled from the ghost looking at the mirror, but she couldn’t help it.
Her stomach was empty—she hadn’t eaten anything, just drink, drink, drink. Her room was filled with empty cans rolling, smelling like shit, and she didn’t care. Yet the crazy part was, despite the turmoil, the emptiness she was feeling, she wrote something.
She wrote thousands of words overnight, putting all her pain, heartbreak in the writings. What she couldn’t say, her characters should feel every bit of her pain.
Katherine stood under the water as it cascaded down her body, not moving her hand to wash off or close her eyes. She just wanted everything to end, or rather to go back to how it was. How it was before Aaron came back to her life again. When it was just her, her kids, and Mathew without any care of the past.
After what felt like hours in the shower, Katherine trudged out of the bathroom. Her body was wrinkled, white from the water. She glanced up at the wall clock and noticed it was time to pick her kids from school.
She was now okay to face her kids.
She quickly cleaned her room, opened the window to erase the pungent scent, and trashed out the garbage as well.
After she was done, she picked up her phone and paused from where it was. She checked and saw dozens of calls, but she didn’t check them—she walked down to the apartment.
When she got to her kids’ school, she stretched her lips twice. Thrice to get the smile on her face for her kids. As the children came out, she saw Jasmine holding Hanith while their bags were slung on their shoulders.
"Buds," she called, putting a fake smile on as she raised her hands waving. Her kids, catching her among the pool of children, jumped.
It felt magical that a real smile pulled at Katherine’s face because before the kids saw her, their faces were pressed in a thin line, empty eyes, but when they heard her voice, they whipped their heads to her, their eyes lit up in shock, and their smiles radiated so much that it affected her as well.
Her heart pulled as she crouched, opening her arms as Hanith and Jasmine ran to her. She pulled them into a deep hug, inhaling their scent—it was calming. As she felt a tear slip from her, she was happy. Her babies were her happiness.
"How are you, kiddos?" she asked, clearing her clogged throat.
"Mommy, we missed you," they both mumbled.
She laughed, flicked their noses. "Did you like Uncle Mathew’s place?" she raised a brow.
"We liked it, and Aunty Amelia was there too."
"Amelia?" Katherine asked, having in the back of her mind to ask Mathew how far he and Amelia were going.
"Did you and Uncle Piano enjoy your date and vacation?" Jasmine asked, wiggling her brow.
Katherine grimaced, caressing Jasmine’s hair. "Yeah, it was superb," she lied through her teeth—that was the lie told to her children.
"So where’s Uncle Piano?"
"He had urgent business in another city," she lied again.
"Oh," the dejected expression on their faces said more than necessary, but she didn’t have time to dive into it.
Katherine took their hands. "Let’s go home," she smiled. "Don’t you miss Mommy?"
"Yes, we did!" Jasmine grinned.
As Katherine pulled her phone out to call Mathew not to bother to pick the kids up, she typed his number in her phone and called.
The first ring.
Second ring.
Mathew picked up.
"Hello Kathy, how are you?"
"Good," she grunted, putting her strand of hair behind her ears.
"Have you seen the news?"
"News?" Katherine asked softly. She didn’t understand why Mathew asked her about that. Was there any new trend she was supposed to know?
"Yes, quickly check it. It has been all over the Internet since yesterday morning."
"Okay," she said slowly. "I’ll check it later, but by the way, I’ve picked the twins up," she mumbled, hanging up to check the news Mathew wanted her to see.
Just checking the latest news, she saw the headlines that made her eyes bulge out in shock and disbelief.
"Aaron Knight Files for Divorce After Amanda’s Sex Scandal Breaks Out."
