Be Careful What You Wish For: A Zombie Apocalypse-Chapter 294: Dinner Is Served
Chapter 294: Dinner Is Served
The woman looked at me, her eyes going wide as if she was trying to determine just how serious I was. "Try me," I purred. "I could use a bit of fun."
Straightening, I walked back over to where Eric and Tank were waiting for me. The man had walked away, hopefully, to spread the word. However, I didn’t expect anything to come for free. Someone was going to test my limits, and I really couldn’t wait.
"Nice conversation?’ asked Eric, looking between me and the woman who was looking a little green.
"It really was," I assured him, tilting my head to the side as I looked up into his eyes.
"I’m sorry this turned out this way," continued Eric as he took my hand and led me down the small path between the beds. "I was honestly expecting more." freewebnσvel.cøm
"It’s fine," I replied, taking Tank’s leash off. He seemed to want to keep the collar on, and I wasn’t about to force the issue. It was a perfect representation of claiming him as mine. "In fact, this seems like it is going to be fun."
----
Dinner wasn’t quite what I was expecting.
The woman who I had threatened walked over to the bunks that Eric and I had claimed and looked down at the floor. "Dinner is here. We have five minutes to get down to the first floor and into the dining hall before they shut the doors."
"And what happens when they shut the doors?" I asked, looking up from where I was petting Tank.
"Then you don’t get dinner for the night," came the quick reply, and I nodded my head. Standing up, I held out a lollypop to the woman.
"Thanks for the info," I smiled at her as she took the offering. "Good behavior gets rewards. Whenever you want, feel free to whisper your wishes to me, and I’ll make sure to grant them." Winking at her, I stepped aside so that Eric could jump down from the top bunk.
Landing almost silently beside me, he focused on the candy in her hand. "You took a kid’s head for taking something of yours," he grunted, unknowingly reinforcing the same thing I had told the woman. "Why is she getting one?"
"She did us a favor," I replied, shrugging my shoulders as I clipped Tank’s leash back on. "As much as I believe in punishment, I also believe in rewarding good behavior."
The woman quickly stuffed the lollypop into her pocket and scurried toward the only door in the room.
Yeah, Eric had checked out the bathroom and discovered that there were no doors in this room. The only thing keeping strangers from seeing what you were doing on the toilet was a black curtain that didn’t even go all the way to the floor.
I was not looking forward to seeing what the showers looked like.
Leaving the room, The three of us walked down the stairs and joined several hundred people in line for food.
As soon as we reached the door to the dining hall, they slammed shut in our faces. The guard in charge smirked at me before running his eyes up and down my body. "Hall is full. Next time, you should show up earlier if you want to eat."
The people behind us didn’t say a peep as they turned around and slowly walked back to the room, but I never looked away from the guard. "Of course," he continued with a purr that even Désiré would have slapped him for. "If you want to eat, some arrangements could be made."
The disgusting look in his eyes told me exactly what arrangements he was talking about. Eric and Tank stepped forward, but I simply shook my head. "Not even if you were the last male creature on this planet," I assured him.
Spinning around, I looked around the now deserted corridor. "I want to go home," I whined, just as my stomach decided at that moment to growl at me. Once again, the guard smirked at me, thinking he had won, but I ignored him.
There, just down the hall, was a door partially hidden by the stairs.
"Do you like him?" I asked Tank as I led us away from the dining hall. Tank looked Eric up and down for a moment before letting out a long sigh. "It’s up to you," I replied.
Just as we got to the door, Tank slowly nodded his head.
"You said that you used to work for Dante," I said softly as I laid my hand on the doorknob. "I assume that that means you can keep your mouth shut."
The smile on Eric’s face completely dropped as he looked at me seriously. "I know it’s been less than 24 hours since we met, but as far as I am concerned, you are mine. Not even the threat of death will make me spill any of your secrets."
"Well," I smiled up at him. "I wouldn’t go that far. Death tends to know better than to touch something that I like."
"Something or someone?" asked Eric, his voice slightly flirtatious for the first time since we met.
"Something," I replied, my smile vanishing. "I’ll let you know if I upgrade you to someone."
---
"Tink!" the woman in front of Eric called out the second she opened the door under the stairs. "I’m home!"
He really had no idea what she was doing. This room was probably a supply closet or something, much too small for the three of them to fit in, but her dog followed closely behind her, pushing the man out of the way.
There was a weird feeling the moment he stepped past the threshold, as if he was trying to walk through a wall of Jello. However, the feeling didn’t last long, and Eric found himself walking into what could only be called a chef’s wet dream.
"What?" he gasped as he looked around. "What is going on?"
"Welcome to my house," replied Lucy as she sat down at the island. Within seconds, there was a steaming plate of food in front of her, along with a glass of milk. "Make yourself at home. Is there anything you want to eat?"
Before Eric could wrap his mind around the scene in front of him, a man shoulder-checked him from behind, pushing him forward.
