Beast Tamer Era: Capturing SSS-ranks with the Strongest Taming System-Chapter 133: New Skill
A list of all the items he owned was also mentioned, with most of them being corpses and cores of demonic creatures and only a few being items worthy of note.
His most prized possessions were the Mad Chieftain’s Warhammer and the loot he had stripped from Ashclaw’s Corpse when he had killed him.
It contained the Wolf Star Amulet and a teleportation scroll. The Wolf Star Amulet was capable of resisting charm-type effects, making it an invaluable item for a person looking to confront a succubus and creatures with traits similiar to one. As for the teleportion scroll, it was worth at least a platinum bar, perhaps even more, and it could be used to save his life when he was at the greatest risk of losing it.
The Wolf Star Amulet, in particular, was bound to prove invaluable against Nisha.
Nisha was Varun’s sister and one of the most depraved individuals Ray had ever had the misfortune of knowing. She was deeply involved in the dark trade of turning humans into pills!
She was a Bronze Rank Tamer who could transform herself into a succubus by fusing with her battle companion, which was a spirit-type demonic creature, and her skillset revolved around charming others into becoming slaves to her will so she could make them do her bidding.
The Wolf Star Amulet granted great resistance against charm.
It wasn’t absolute, but Ray had centuries of memories and emotions residing within him, which was like an unyielding storm of willpower that few could shake. Combined with the Wolf Star Amulet, even Nisha’s most potent seduction would crumble like dust before him!
"Nisha, your days are numbered," Ray thought coldly, a ruthless gleam lighting up his eyes. "And your brother won’t live much longer either."
The desire to cull the siblings like the beasts they were had taken root in his heart since the moment he learned of their atrocities. Even after all things he had experienced, that desire had never dulled. If anything, it had only grown stronger with time.
They would die. Both of them.
It was only a matter of time.
He planned to return to Earth soon, and when he did, the devilish pair would meet their end one after another.
He planned to return to Earth after he had reached the Silver Rank.
He was already an advanced-stage Bronze Ranker. Taking the Heavenly Moon Ginseng now would propel him straight into Silver Rank, but Ray hesitated.
He thought for a moment longer before deciding against taking a loss just to reach the silver rank a bit early.
’Using it now would be a waste of its true potential. Better to save it until I reach the peak of the Bronze Rank,’
His mind was made up, his determination palpable through his eyes.
’It won’t take long. I just need a bit more Enlightenment Points to buy one more Blue Spirit Fruit. A single mission should be enough to cover it.’
’Before that, let’s hear what the Flying Serpent has to say.’
Ray entered the Monster Palace.
Ray entered the Monster Palace and called out, "Flying Serpent, come and see me."
He was in the grand hall where he had once fought the Great Ones.
"Yes, master?" The Flying Serpent arrived there in no time, its wings folding neatly as it lowered its head before him.
"What did you want to tell me?" Ray asked, sitting down on the throne.
When he had battled the Great Ones, their clash had devastated the entire hall to its foundations. Surprisingly, while the rest of the grand hall was in a devastated and desolate state, the throne itself remained untouched, as if even the passage of time couldn’t erode its integrity. Lacking the ability to discern materials with a glance, Ray could only guess it was made from some special, indestructible substance.
Seeing him seated upon that throne, the Flying Serpent felt that the sight was strangely fitting for a man of his prowess. It didn’t seem out of place in the slightest.
"I found out from the Necromancer that the Bloodsuckers won’t take well to their plan being foiled" the Flying Serpent said, lowering its voice. "Once they know that the Three Great Terrors of the Misty Swamp Region had failed to destroy the Great Wall. Once they know what you’ve done. They’ll move. The Night Princes will be maneuvered to cause the destruction of the Great Wall themselves. Though it’s unlikely, Even the Night King might come."
"So that’s what you wanted to tell me?" Ray asked, his expression calm, as he crossed one leg over the other.
"You’re not worried at all," the Flying Serpent said, sounding almost uneasy. "It’s as if you already expected it."
"Only a fool wouldn’t see it coming," Ray replied, his tone steady as he nodded.
"You seem curious. What do you want to ask me?" Ray said, noticing the look on the Flying Serpent’s face.
"Master, do you have a plan to deal with them? Or are you going to sit this one out?" the Flying Serpent questioned cautiously.
"It’s neither," Ray replied calmly. "Since I can tell what they’ll do, the higher ups of the tower who seek to protect Veloria from doom shouldn’t ignorant of it either. They will come up with a way to deal with it. Since they can’t take action themselves, missions with high rewards will be posted to attract powerful Bronze and Silver Rank Hunters to Veloria to defend the Great Wall."
The true benefits of the Devour skill were at full display here.
Ray had devoured about two hundred and fifty years’ worth of memories so far, and with that came a profound understanding of how people thought, acted, and reacted.
That was why he could so easily predict what the Bloodsuckers’ would do in the near future and the Tower’s response to it.
Naturally, it couldn’t all be attributed to that.
Their logic, their motives, even their politics. If he wasn’t already aware of them to a certain issue, his prediction would have been far off the mark.
The Flying Serpent tilted its head. "Will we be there when it happens?"
"Naturally," Ray said with a faint smile.
The Flying Serpent lowered its gaze, wings twitching uneasily.
"By the way," Ray said. "I can’t keep calling you ’Flying Serpent’ since we’ll be together for a long time. So you’ve got ten seconds to come up with a suitable name, or I’ll give you one myself."
"What’s considered a suitable name?" the Serpent asked, blinking.
"Something that rolls off the tongue easily," Ray answered.
"Max?"
"Too common."
"Jax?"
The serpent looked at him in anticipation, its tail flicking nervously. It really didn’t want to be named by him. So it hoped he would accept its suggestion.
"Fine," Ray said flatly. "From now on, you’ll be called Jax."
[Your Slave "The Flying Serpent" has been renamed to "Jax."]
"Alright, you’re excused," Ray said.
Jax bowed its head respectfully before going away.
After it had went away, Ray retrieved a small, faintly glowing object from his inventory. It was the Taming Scroll Selena had given him, a gift he had kept safe until now.
Without hesitation, he fed it to his Mutated Eclipse Devouring Taming Scroll (1-Star).
A series of notifications appeared before his eyes in rapid succession:
