Beastmen: She Tames the Land-Chapter 161: Who is Sys?
For the next few days, the trio made the pack a well-oiled machine. The Stone-horn tribe and the River clan arrived two days later. They walked among the pack. There were not many houses available to hold them, but they showed no reluctance to stay under the stars.
Gorn commented that staying on the ground is something he had done a lot growing up. And that the caldera was much warmer than outside. Staying on the ground for a while would not cause damage. Beastmen were strong enough to withstand such things.
The River clan also did not complain. They knew the Warm Pack had no obligation to keep them in their territory.
Of course, not everyone agreed. There was some contention between people from all three tribes. However, they only grumbled and did not raise their heads in protest. It was understood that this was a special period.
Should anything happen to either of the tribes, it was good to know that each had a partner they could fall back on.
After a whirlwind of meetings and private talks, the trio was ready to leave. They would be gone for an undetermined amount of time. This is one of the reasons they had to ensure the pack’s safety so thoroughly before they left.
The contents of their current mission were not specifically told to the pack. The only people who were clear on the matter were Krag and Chi. Not because they told them. They were the ones who mentioned.
As for how they knew, the trio had no idea. They filed it under one of the many miraculous things about the couple. It also gave them a kind of relief. There was someone who knew where they were going. Rather than it feeling like a burden, it felt like a comfort.
Some morbid part of them thought that if they died, there would be a person who knew where or who might come looking.
On the day they left, the pack appeared at the gate. Accompanying were some of the River clan and the Stone-horns. It was a solemn goodbye. Gorn and Mira caught each other’s eyes before they left.
Although they were not completely aware of what was happening, for people their age, they had a kind of intuition. They knew whatever it was, it would be dangerous. It was evident from the way they started preparing the pack.
Sitting on Xeno’s back, Visha looked back at the pack she and her mates had created. She wasn’t sure when they would see them again, but she hoped to be home soon.
Turning to face forward, she heard a voice in her ear. "Tell Sys, we’ll be waiting."
The voice made Visha stiffen slightly. It was Chi’s voice. She turned back, but realized they were too far away for her to hear Chi’s voice. Plus, she just mentioned Sys.
The system had told her that its name is Sys. She never paid much attention to it. Everyone deserves their own name, even a machine. Because frankly, Visha has always thought of the system as more of a machine than anything else. The voice sounds robotic. And except for a few times when the system came close to sounding like a normal person, it would revert to the robotic voice.
Since the last time Visha had spoken to Sys, the day after the cleansing ritual, she had not been able to have a conversation with it again. All it did since then was to assign the task.
Now, hearing Chi mention Sys directly, Visha had to admit to herself that her feeling might be correct. Krag and Chi were more extraordinary than she had anticipated. And Sys was somehow related to them.
Without much ado, she linked Xeno and Uri, told them what Chi had done, and said.
Uri’s voice echoed in both their mind’s, "They were willing to let you know that they knew. It means something has changed."
That statement resonated with Visha. Something had changed. But what? The only change she is sure about now has to do with the forbidden zones, and them becoming half shifters. Are those the changes that are happening?
But what about those changes would prompt Chi to send such a message? And waiting for Sys, why? What was their connection?
The thoughts swirled in her mind, even when they stopped running to have lunch.
Kissing the top of her head, Xeno said, "Don’t think about it anymore. You’re giving yourself and us a headache."
Visha glared at him, and he chuckled.
"One day, Sha’mīn will beat you, and you will not be able to stop her," Uri said.
"I’m looking forward to it," Xeno grinned.
Visha lay on the ground. This was day one of their journey. It would take another seven suns before they arrived at the border of the Verdant Maw. She could take this time to look for some herbs she had been running low on and see if she could find any new ones. 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
They took their time eating and stretched out to relax. The journey during this time would be a vacation for them. No need to deal with pack details or disputes. Their only job was to relax until they arrived at their destination.
That’s when the real work would start. Or so they thought.
Visha had decided to use Commune to see her surroundings. She was relaxing on a path of grass, her tail swaying. She still hadn’t quite gotten used to it, but she was more relaxed about it now.
As she used Commune, she noticed something odd. There were plants around her that did not register the same as others. She saw ’feeding pattern’ as one of the things to read about the plant.
When she focused on one plant in particular, what she saw made her jump up. Which, in turn, made Uri and Xeno, who were doing their own things, alert.
"I think we have a problem," Visha said, voice shaking.
