Chapter 976: Chapter 82 Ksitigarbha, Maitreya, King Ming_2

Chapter 976 -82 Ksitigarbha, Maitreya, King Ming_2

They “contemplated” and “discerned”, cultivating both strength and mind, learning Buddhist teachings and putting them into practice from both the perspectives of knowledge and action.

In learning they practiced, and in practicing they learned.

Such optimization, such iteration, they gradually showed differences from both the old and the new forces within the Buddhist Sect.

This was also true for the monks influenced by this group of monks and those led by them.

Their differences, manifesting within themselves and in the eyes of others, were that they truly were nearing, in both mind and strength, the “Buddha,” that is, True Enlightenment, Samyak-sambuddha, Supreme Samyak-sambuddha.

The Bodhisattva Dharma School is indeed the grand path!

This consensus gradually formed in the hearts of these monks and those who witnessed their transformation.

Monk Liao Fan of the White Horse Zen Institution, who had revisited and publicly vowed to practice the three schools of Buddhism—Sravaka, Pratyeka-buddha, and Bodhisattva—came to be regarded by these monks as a foreseer.

His status quickly approached that of the great sun atop the three wheels.

However, different people had different perspectives.

Some regarded Monk Liao Fan as an incarnation or a reincarnation of the Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha King, while others saw him as an unenlightened embodiment or reincarnation of Buddha Maitreya.

Indeed, the internal Buddhist “debate” and “enlightenment” craze sparked by the three schools of Buddha teachings brought to light much information that had been buried in stacks of old documents.

The concept of horizontal and vertical tri-Buddhas suddenly became widely known.

The so-called horizontal tri-Buddhas refer to the great sun with the three wheels coexisting: the Eastern Medicine Buddha, Central Gautama Buddha, and Western Amitabha Buddha.

The so-called vertical tri-Buddhas are: Buddha Dipankara of the past, Gautama Buddha of the present, and Buddha Maitreya of the future.

With mighty power and lofty status, Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha King was the figure whose Ksitigarbha Fundamental Seal and vows Monk Liao Fan adopted when he made his own, almost identical to the great vows of Ksitigarbha.

Thus, many monks saw the foreseer Monk Liao Fan as an incarnation or reincarnation of the Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha King.

Some more radical monks even associated the foreseer Monk Liao Fan with the future Buddha Ancestor, Buddha Maitreya.

They believed that the Ksitigarbha Fundamental Seal and the great vows of Ksitigarbha were a necessary path prior to Maitreya’s descent.

This theory was laden with mystique.

That is, the present world, now facing the risk of collapse, could no longer count on the current Gautama Buddha to protect the remnants of Buddhist civilization!

Whether to embrace the second notion of “breaking through the ceiling” or the first of simply “opening a window” was more acceptable to Buddhist monks became a question.

Thus, the theory that Monk Liao Fan was possibly an incarnation or reincarnation of the Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha King began to spread among some monks within the Buddhist Sect.

It was under such circumstances that the news of Monk Nengqing of Ci’en Temple in Bianjing of the Song Dynasty denouncing Monk Liao Fan as the “Evil Path” and “sin against Buddha” and killing him spread throughout the world.

Monk Liao Fan did not resist or evade, he calmly faced death and, before dying, propagated the act of “If I do not enter Hell, who will?” which spread along with the news.

This event further agitated the already divisive Buddhist community, torn by the “debate” and “enlightenment” frenzy.

Some monks, like Monk Nengqing, who condemned Monk Liao Fan as the “Evil Path” and “sin against Buddha,” advocated rewarding Monk Nengqing for cleansing the Buddhist Sect of its afflictions.

Other monks, with firm belief in the Bodhisattva Dharma School and who viewed Monk Liao Fan as an incarnation or reincarnation of the Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha King, advocated imprisoning and punishing Monk Nengqing, and then either in groups or alone, they set out to fulfill the great vow made by the incarnation or reincarnation of Bodhisattva Ksitigarbha King:

To liberate all beings from sin and suffering.

Some more radical monks, who viewed Monk Liao Fan as an incarnation or reincarnation of the future Buddha Maitreya, advocated killing Monk Nengqing and then reforming the Buddhist Sect to joyfully welcome the descent of Maitreya!

Jasmine was quite astounded by these changes.

Perhaps by not being in this specific mountain range, Jasmine could see this world’s Buddhist Sect, from inside out, from isolation to secular, not only being severely shaken but also showing signs of uncontrollable and irretrievable division.

In other words, Link’s actions had indeed shaken the foundation of the Buddhist Sect in this world.

“Link, do you have any other plans?”

However, realizing this, Jasmine wasn’t too pleased.

In her view, merely shaking the foundations of the Buddhist Sect in this world was not enough to complete Link’s mission fully.

After this “calamity,” the strength and depth of this world’s Buddhist Sect would undoubtedly be greatly reduced and might need a very long time to recover.

To say it was severely weakened would not be an exaggeration.

Yet, this was but one of the twelve habitable worlds remaining of the Buddhist civilization, and it was not possible to utterly destroy the Buddhist Sect’s existence!

As a wife and confidante, Jasmine naturally hoped that once Link embarked on the “predestined fate,” he could walk steadily and far.

Until the end, achieving freedom!

Therefore, the somewhat insatiable Jasmine hoped that Link would have a more advanced plan to complete this mission better.

In his special spiritual form, Link smiled slightly, “Yes, but the time is not yet right.”

Just as he finished speaking, Link’s expression suddenly froze.

“What’s wrong?”

Jasmine very keenly noticed this change and asked out loud.

“An unexpected event occurred.”

Link replied.

“What kind of unexpected event? Is it a good thing or a bad thing?”

Jasmine asked with concern, her eyebrows and eyes showing a faint worry.

Link’s face showed a relaxed expression as he reassured her, “There’s no need to worry. It’s not a bad thing. There’s a very high probability it’s a good thing, and…”

“And what?”

“And it could make my original next step unfold better, faster, more smoothly.”

“Is that so? Then shall we go now?”

“Yes.”

Having reached a consensus, Jasmine followed Link, who was in a special spirit state, and left their hiding place to head towards the White Horse Zen Institution.

White Horse Zen Institution, Reception Pavilion.

Monk Yuanzhi sat cross-legged face to face with Monk Liao Chen.

The former in a lotus position, the latter in a demon-subduing position; different postures, even more different states of mind.

After a long while, Monk Liao Chen ended his meditation, opened his eyes, and said in a deep voice, “Master, I have realized.”

Monk Yuanzhi slowly opened his eyes and asked in response, “What have you realized?”

“I have realized what I should do next.”

Monk Liao Chen’s expression was extremely solemn, his tone even more so.

“What should you do?”

Monk Yuanzhi was equally solemn and equally earnest in his follow-up question.

“Leave the monastery.”

Monk Liao Chen stated firmly, uttering two words.

“Leave the monastery for what purpose?”

Monk Yuanzhi understood the implication instantly yet still asked.

Monk Liao Chen stood up, brought his hands together in respect and bowed to Monk Yuanzhi, speaking word by word, “To leave the monastery, to practice the Way, to enlighten myself, to enlighten all beings, to end this corrupt and chaotic world.”

A complex emotion fleetingly crossed Monk Yuanzhi’s face as he took a gentle breath and sighed, “If that’s the case, go ahead.”

“Take care, Master.”

Monk Liao Chen bowed again, turned around, and left with very determined steps.

This departure from the monastery signified not a continued worship of the Buddha but rather a practice of Buddhism.

Given the current complex situation, the path ahead was bound to be rugged, filled with mud and hardships, possibly a journey of no return.

If it was a journey of no return, then let it be so.

Buddha in the heart, Buddha underfoot, Buddha in all beings.

Buddha in this life, and Buddha in the next.

Monk Yuanzhi watched Monk Liao Chen’s retreating figure, sighing inwardly, “Such is fate!”

Liao Chen, after all, signifies being done with the mundane world, not needing another life.

From start to finish, Monk Yuanzhi had never truly recognized Monk Liao Fan as the reincarnation of Master Wusheng.

About the prophecy “Maitreya’s descent, King Ming’s emergence,” Monk Yuanzhi had not deceived Monk Liao Chen but had simply not gone into detail.

After all, who is Maitreya, and who is King Ming.

“Alas!”

Monk Yuanzhi let out a sigh, followed by another exclamation, “Such is fate!”

As his voice faded, Monk Yuanzhi’s figure gradually blurred and dematerialized. Before long, he transformed into flowers of lotus that shifted from solid to void.

In an instant, the entire White Horse Zen Institution lost the support of some mighty force, aged rapidly, and without a trace of human presence, became a ruin.

Only the full pond of White Lotus flowers in the back mountains bloomed and swayed.
