Becoming the Wasteland Overlord With My Harem System!-Chapter 235: Escaping to Safety
After reaching their remote base camp, everyone began to move without delay.
"Don’t bother collecting your belongings! We’ll replace them if they’re gone later! Prioritize speed and safety! Don’t break the lines! There’s a missing kid over here! Miss Mother, come to the first-aid station to get her!"
Nobody asked questions; they simply moved.
They had been resting for quite some time and had just enjoyed a hearty meal, so they didn’t really object to the sudden demand to evacuate.
BOOOM!
"Kyaaah!"
Even from this distance, they could hear the loud explosions coming from the capital’s vicinity.
Nobody knew what was truly happening, but they understood that staying here, even at this distance, was still dangerous.
"Get in, one group at a time! No rushing!"
Fortunately, preparations had already been made.
Navi and Mimir, who had been away for a while, were busy setting up Teleportation Magic Circles in the center of the camp. This version of the teleportation circle was a downgraded model used by the witches to traverse dimensions, similar to the circles used for traveling between fortresses.
There were five sets, each capable of accommodating up to 100 people, allowing the evacuation to proceed swiftly. With a continuous flow of people, they were moving about 1,000 individuals per minute.
However, with their large numbers, it would still take time to complete.
Approximately 30 minutes.
Until then, Eve, Arianne, Ria, Nina, and the two spirits, Navi and Mimir, remained on guard.
The sun was just setting, and the zombies would arrive in a few minutes, heightening their anxiety.
Not because they were afraid of the incoming wave of zombies, of course, but because those zombies might distract them and lead to critical errors in judgment.
"Looks like Fenrir’s going all out..."
Arianne commented lightly as she observed the large explosions visible even from a distance.
"Yeah... I just hope they don’t decimate the capital to the point where the population drops to zero..." Nina sighed, her worry evident.
"Hopefully not," Ria prayed. "I’m sure Fenrir will do something about it..."
Meanwhile, Eve, poised with her sniper rifle aimed forward, let out a soft sigh. "I’m sure she will."
Unbeknownst to them, their prayers were right on point.
Back in the capital, the battle between two "monsters" raged on.
Greed stood on the ground, looking upward with a brave grin. His body was clad in the same golden armor as before, but now he wielded two swords, one in each hand.
He was truly going all out!
"What’s wrong, you bitch?!" he growled, steam billowing from the holes in his helmet. "Is this all you’ve got?!"
Fenrir hovered mid-air, about 200 meters above the ground.
Though she remained intact, a drop of blood trickled down the corner of her lips. It was so faint that she didn’t even notice it; all she was aware of was the metallic taste of blood—her own blood—in her mouth.
However, she didn’t appear to be in despair.
Rather, she was smiling—grinning from ear to ear, almost like a crazed battle maniac.
"It’s been a while since I tasted my own blood," she whispered. "Now, don’t disappoint me, you little greedy pig!"
"Stop acting arrogant if you can’t even beat me! Running away to the sky!"
Greed, inhabiting the Emperor’s body, let go of one sword and brought his fist to his waist.
When he opened his palm, a black and purple sphere, about the size of a fist, emerged. It radiated an unbelievable amount of energy, causing blinding white streams of lightning and plasma to surge from it straight down to the ground beneath him.
"Take this if you dare!"
He stretched his hand forward, sending the black sphere ahead.
However, it didn’t travel as a sphere; instead, it transformed into a beam of energy, shooting straight for Fenrir. This was the most powerful attack that Greed had unleashed during their entire confrontation!
"...!"
Fenrir’s lips curled into a wider smile at the sight. She was becoming increasingly excited!
Yet, she showed no signs of dodging or preparing to fight back. She remained still, waiting for the attack to strike... and when it did, a massive explosion erupted, flattening the buildings directly beneath her even from 200 meters up in the air.
Fenrir, hit squarely, was propelled into the dark sky. She followed a parabolic arc, landing approximately 20 kilometers southwest of the capital.
"Guhuck!"
Upon landing, she coughed up blood.
She had endured an attack that could have easily killed her, without any form of defense. It was no surprise she was injured. In fact, it was a mystery how she was still alive and able to move, despite taking that hit head-on!
"Haaaack!"
Greed arrived before her, fist raised and enveloped in dark energy from the depths of hell. He followed right after she was blasted away, prepared to deliver the finishing blow.
"This..." Fenrir’s smile faded. "Should be far enough."
As Greed’s fist approached her face, Fenrir opened her mouth, as if about to say something, but the Greater Demon—no, the Ancestral Demon Greed—ignored her.
A decision he would soon regret.
"Devour."
It was a casual action, almost akin to yawning or taking a big bite out of an oversized burger.
The next moment...
"Huh?"
Half of Greed’s body... vanished.
He stood there, flabbergasted, unable to comprehend what had just occurred.
After all, the "Fenrir" he remembered shouldn’t be able to use this ability. It should have been sealed by the Gleipnir, which continued to bind her soul even now.
"Kuh...!"
Yet, the undeniable truth was that half of his body had disappeared—armor, weapon, and all.
"This can’t be...!"
He growled, fighting the urge to vomit the dark blood that threatened to escape him. His body began to regenerate—forcefully.
Things that were "devoured" are supposed to be gone forever. They couldn’t be recovered or regrown. That was the rule. However, Greed’s body was half-physical (the Emperor’s Body) and half-spiritual (his true Body).
Having lost the right half of his physical body, he was forced to materialize his spiritual form to cope. A black mass enveloped his right side, taking on a shape that resembled his earlier form.
’I can’t give her time to use it again...!’ he thought, panicking.
His earlier bravado and belief that he was winning against her vanished in an instant.
He switched his attack from a simple punch to one of his golden swords (one that was supposed to be gone forever) and slashed at his enemy.
However, Fenrir’s hand moved with casual ease.
As if she were simply stopping a friendly tap on her shoulder.
She caught the blade in her hand, redirecting its force to the ground around her, causing the earth to sink a dozen meters instantly.
"As expected, that didn’t kill you..." she whispered, her eyes glowing a frantic red, her smile resembling that of a lunatic. "Now, I shall unleash my full power against you. Don’t die too quickly...!"
In the next moment, a blue lightning bolt struck down, enveloping the two.
And then...
