Being Dumped by My EX, I Marriied His Older Brother-Chapter 157: Emergency
"April Graham, don’t push me. If anything happens to her, I’ll destroy you myself!"
After his harsh warning, Justin let her go and coldly walked away.
April Graham looked panicked and tried to chase after him, but Jason Graham grabbed her. "Haven’t you made enough of a scene?"
April Graham struggled violently, shouting at him, "Let go of me."
She was afraid. Afraid that after this, Justin would ignore her even more.
She wanted to chase after him, but she couldn’t break free from Jason Graham.
Watching helplessly as Justin got into his car and drove away, she nearly went insane, pounding on Jason Graham with all her might.
But Jason Graham forcibly dragged her away, shoved her into a car, and drove off.
The car pulled out and slowly merged onto the road.
Inside, April Graham was screaming and crying, looking like a crazed shrew.
Jason Graham rubbed his temples. "Are you done with your fit?"
April Graham glared at him. "Who asked you to meddle? This is none of your business! Stop the car and let me out right now."
But Jason Graham had no intention of stopping.
Seemingly driven mad, April Graham reached for the car door, only to be yanked back by Jason Graham.
"Just look at the state you’re in! You’re the young lady of the Graham Family, and you’re being a complete disgrace."
As if stung by his words, tears streamed down April Graham’s cheeks.
She stared blankly at Jason Graham and sneered, "Face, face, that’s all anyone talks about! Do any of you know how much I’ve suffered for the sake of this so-called face?"
"Five years ago, you talked about face, and five years later, you’re still talking about face! I just want to pursue my own happiness. Is that so difficult?"
Jason Graham’s rugged face was grim. "It’s no use telling me this. Go back and tell them."
After her fit of crying and screaming, April Graham’s emotions gradually calmed.
She slowly leaned against Jason Graham and said in a soft voice, "Brother, I really want to leave this family."
Jason Graham’s expression was blank. "You hate being controlled, yet you go around hurting others. You feel the Graham family has wronged you, but what has Nina Thorne ever done to you? Why do you treat her like this?"
April Graham shot upright, staring at him in disbelief. "Even you? You’re going to scold me over that bitch? First it was Justin, and now you too."
"I just can’t stand to watch it anymore."
Jason Graham’s face was cold. "Besides, Justin Kane has never belonged to you."
April Graham sneered. "I don’t think you can’t stand it. I think you’re in love with that bitch."
Jason Graham’s face tightened, but he said nothing, his indifference keeping everyone at a distance.
April Graham let out a few cold laughs and fell silent, her gaze turning sinister.
’Since everyone cares so much about Nina Thorne, I’d like to see how they’d all react if she were dead.’
After leaving the hospital, Nina Thorne went straight back to her apartment.
Macy Lynch was waiting for her at home. She had made a pot of mung bean soup and braised chicken feet.
They were all Nina Thorne’s favorite foods.
Sitting at the dining table, Nina Thorne ate the sweet soup while looking at Macy Lynch.
She hesitated for a moment before speaking. "Macy, I’ve started looking for a new place these last couple of days."
Macy Lynch stopped eating and looked up at her. "You don’t want to live with me anymore? You’re leaving so soon?"
Nina Thorne smiled. "No, that’s not it. Where’s your head at? I’m looking for a place that’s more convenient for work. You know the Thorne Group has a lot going on right now, and it’s not convenient for me to stay here."
Macy Lynch thought about it and saw her point. "Alright then. I’ll come crash at your place when I have time."
Nina Thorne gave a bright, genuine smile. "Of course. You’re welcome anytime. In fact, you have to come."
Macy Lynch smiled too, handing her a chicken foot. "Eat up. It’s not often I get a chance to cook."
That was certainly true.
For the past two years, ever since Macy Lynch entered the modeling world,
she had been busy with runway shows, endorsements, and photo shoots, flying nonstop between countries.
They had far fewer opportunities to see each other.
But seeing her friend’s career flourish, Nina Thorne was genuinely happy for her.
After a moment,
Macy Lynch asked tentatively, "If—and I’m just saying if—Justin Kane had his reasons for what happened, would you forgive him?"
Nina Thorne lowered her gaze. Her face remained placid, but her heart ached with a sharp sting.
’His reasons?’
"What reason could possibly be more important than denying me, refuting our relationship, and negating my very existence in front of everyone?"
"Macy, if Grandpa hadn’t had his accident because of this, maybe I would have been willing to listen to some excuse."
Nina Thorne’s tone was cool. "But there are no ’what ifs’ in this world. It’s impossible now."
Macy Lynch understood her feelings and nodded deeply. "Right. If you don’t want to forgive him, then don’t. It’s not like we can’t live without them.
You’re doing great right now. Taking over the company, playing to your strengths... you were always meant to be in the spotlight, shining brightly.
Besides, you’re so talented and kind. Happiness never fails those who are hardworking and upright."
’So that’s how highly Macy thinks of me.’
Nina Thorne felt a sense of comfort, but she could only manage a strained smile.
She didn’t say anything more.
Even now, she still had no idea what Justin Kane’s supposed reasons were.
All she knew was that April Graham lay between them, an insurmountable obstacle.
Nina Thorne no longer cared who he truly loved.
But what about April Graham?
If April Graham wasn’t the one he loved, why did he repeatedly break their promises for her sake?
As for why, Nina Thorne had no desire to find out anymore.
Her priority now was to secure her position as chairman within the week.
To prevent the company from falling into someone else’s hands.
That night, just before bed, Simon Foster sent her a message: "Meeting with the parts supplier tomorrow. Together?"
Knowing he could handle it, Nina Thorne replied: "You go. I have other things to take care of."
She thought Simon Foster wouldn’t reply again, but then he sent another message: "Need my help?"
Nina Thorne sent a message politely declining, then put her phone down and went to sleep.
The next morning, she went to find Kevin Thorne.
Kevin Thorne wasn’t surprised to see her at all. He gave her a lazy, flippant grin.
"Nina, it’s been years! Look how grown up you are. Seems like you haven’t learned much all this time, though.
Now that Master Thorne has had his accident, you’ve come back to take over. You can’t let anything happen to the company, you hear?"
"If you spit out the money you took, the company will be perfectly fine."
Nina Thorne was merciless, her words sharp and direct. "If you don’t, you’ll go down with the company."
Kevin Thorne’s face fell. "Spit what money out? I don’t know what you’re talking about."
Nina Thorne scoffed, "Did you forget to put your brain back in your head? And now you’re playing innocent!"
Kevin Thorne’s face went pale. His flippant attitude vanished, replaced by fury and embarrassment. "Don’t you dare slander me! In all these years, I’ve never embezzled a single cent from the company.
When Master Thorne was in charge, he never said a word. What gives you the right to investigate me?"
Nina Thorne had expected this reaction. She sneered, "Fine. You don’t have to cooperate. I’ll call the police."
With that, she turned to leave the office.
Seeing she was serious, Kevin Thorne rushed to grab her. "No, no, no! We can talk this out."
Nina coldly shook his hand off. "There’s nothing to talk about. When you were embezzling company funds without a care for the Group’s survival, did you ever once think about its situation?"
Rendered speechless by her questioning, Kevin Thorne struggled for a moment before finally admitting it.
"Yes, I embezzled the funds. But I... I lost a lot of money in Feldspar a few days ago.
I saw the Group had money, so I just borrowed some to get me through a tough spot. I never thought it would turn into this."
After everything she’d been through, Nina Thorne didn’t trust anyone anymore. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
She looked at him indifferently. "If you return the money, I can let this go. Otherwise, you can explain it to the police yourself."
With that final word, Nina Thorne coldly departed.
Kevin Thorne stood there, dejected. As he watched Nina Thorne leave, his expression slowly twisted into one of savage hatred.
Nina then returned to her office and spent the rest of the day reviewing documents.
Over the past few days, she had crammed, learning about the Group’s various partnership projects.
The most pressing task was to resolve the issues Simon Foster had mentioned: the strike at the parts factory and the walkout by the construction workers.
She lowered her head and rubbed her temples.
Just then, Jay Jacobs burst through the door. "Miss Thorne, there’s trouble! The workers are raising a ruckus at the construction site."
"And they’ve called in a bunch of reporters! A group of workers are gathered on the roof, threatening to jump..."
Nina Thorne’s expression changed drastically. She shot to her feet and headed for the door.
"Get me to the construction site. Now."
Jay Jacobs followed her out, worriedly trying to persuade her. "You shouldn’t go, it’s too dangerous. Just let Mr. Foster handle it."
Nina Thorne knew Simon Foster was busy. "No more nonsense," she said sternly. "Let’s go. Now."
They rushed to the construction site as fast as they could.
The construction site was cordoned off.
Many reporters and police officers were at the scene.
On the rooftop, a group of workers held a large banner that read: "Unscrupulous Thorne Group Cheats Workers of Their Blood and Sweat Money," and other similar slogans.
A worker with a megaphone was denouncing the actions of the Thorne Group.
The media was reporting live from the scene.
When they saw Nina Thorne, they immediately swarmed her with their microphones.
"Miss Thorne, we heard your group exploits its workers. Is this true?"
"Did the Group get to where it is today by exploiting its labor force? Is this standard practice for you?"
"Is the Thorne Group going bankrupt? We heard Master Thorne is in the hospital and on his deathbed..."
The questions came one after another, an overwhelming onslaught.
If this wasn’t handled properly, it wouldn’t just damage the Group’s reputation; she would lose control of the company entirely.
Nina Thorne ignored them, pushed her way through the crowd, and hurried over to the police captain.
"Let me go up. I’ll speak to them myself."
The police captain’s expression was grave. "The workers are highly emotional right now. If you go up, your life could be in danger."
Nina Thorne hesitated for a moment.
She snatched the megaphone from the officer’s hand and shouted up at the roof, "I am Nina Thorne, the one in charge of the Thorne Group! You can tell me your demands, but first, you need to calm down and come down from there!"
As her voice faded, a worker on the roof immediately shouted back, "We don’t believe you! You always come up with excuses to delay paying our wages!"
"Everyone is here today, so tell us! When exactly are you going to pay us?"
Every media camera swiveled to focus on Nina Thorne.
It was the first time Nina Thorne had ever faced a situation like this.
She couldn’t help but feel afraid, but to run the entire Group, she had to overcome her fear.
If she could resolve these problems, she would be able to secure her footing in the Group.
The reporters were still peppering her with harsh questions.
Nina Thorne’s calm gaze swept over them, her eyes firm. "The allegations you’re making are false. The Thorne Group does not withhold wages from any of its workers."
"I will resolve this issue as quickly as possible and give the workers the resolution they deserve."
She then turned back to the police captain and repeated her intention to go up and negotiate.
The police captain considered it, then agreed. "Alright. I’ll take a few of my men up with you. It’s too dangerous otherwise."
Jay Jacobs tried desperately to stop her. "Miss Thorne, please don’t go up! You can talk to them from here. If something happens to you up there, how will I ever explain it to the Chairman?"
"They’re just here for their wages, not to kill anyone."
Nina Thorne swallowed hard, looked up, and then went to the rooftop with the police captain and a few of his officers.
「Meanwhile.」
Ben Cheney saw the livestream and rushed to inform Justin Kane.
