Being Dumped by My EX, I Marriied His Older Brother-Chapter 96: Teaching the Bad Woman a Lesson
Immediately, a flood of people poured into the live stream.
Seeing the live feed, they started spamming the bullet comments section.
[What’s going on? Is that Justin Kane?]
[@ a_poster_above, are you talking about the head of The Kane Group? The one in charge?]
[Whoa, who’s the woman he’s holding? I can’t see her face, but her profile looks really familiar...]
Serena Kane was streaming from a burner account without showing her face. Seeing the comments, she immediately cleared up their confusion.
"It’s the Thorne family’s daughter, Nina Thorne."
Immediately after, the shills she had paid off entered the stream and started flooding the chat.
[Nina Thorne? Isn’t she dating The Kane Group’s second young master, Cole Kane? I heard they were college sweethearts.]
[What do you mean, college sweethearts! They have a marriage contract. They’re about to get married!]
The moment these comments appeared, the live stream exploded, and messages scrolled by in a constant stream.
Meanwhile, the thugs were beaten into submission, cowering on the ground with their hands over their heads.
Justin Kane sensed something. His brow furrowed as his sharp gaze swept in a certain direction.
It was right where Serena Kane was standing.
The distance wasn’t too far, nor too close. He could see her clearly, and a sharp glint flashed in his eyes. "Go. Take care of it."
Then, holding Nina Thorne, he strode away, got into his car, and headed straight for the hospital.
Only then did Assistant Cheney notice Serena Kane. He was startled for a moment before nodding immediately and leading his men in her direction.
By the time Serena Kane tried to run, it was already too late to escape.
The next second, the live stream went dark.
-
「Two hours later, at the hospital.」
Nina Thorne was placed in a temporary observation room.
The examination showed nothing serious—just some soft tissue contusions and a mild concussion.
The doctor recommended she stay for a day of observation. If there were no further symptoms, she could be discharged the next day.
"I’m sorry. I failed to protect you."
Justin Kane stayed by her bedside, his hand gripping her small one. His voice was hoarse. "If I had seen the text message sooner, you wouldn’t have gotten hurt because of me."
"It has nothing to do with you."
The corner of Nina Thorne’s mouth was split, and her voice was raspy from screaming. The purple bruises stood out starkly against her pale little face, making the sight all the more heart-wrenching.
She lowered her eyelids, clenching her fists tightly. "I never expected those thugs to be so brazen. They’re completely lawless."
She had already been so careful to guard against Serena Kane, but she never imagined she’d run into a gang of desperate thugs.
The area around the tennis club was a busy district with plenty of people.
Yet those men had dared to be so audacious in broad daylight. Their actions were simply outrageous.
Justin Kane’s brows tightened, his eyes darkening in thought. After a moment, he reached out and stroked Nina Thorne’s head.
"Just focus on getting some rest. I’ve already had the men apprehended. I’ll get to the bottom of this."
Feeling his tenderness, the fear in Nina Thorne’s heart dissipated.
Every time she was in trouble, Justin Kane was the one who appeared by her side. She felt a deep sense of relief and nodded obediently.
"Okay."
A trickle of warmth spread through Nina Thorne’s chest as she said from the bottom of her heart, "Thank goodness you were here."
"Don’t say that. I’m your husband; doing this is my duty." A smile tugged at the corners of Justin Kane’s lips, and he dotingly patted her head again.
With him by her side, Nina Thorne felt exceptionally safe. Perhaps due to the IV drip, she soon fell into a deep sleep.
Shortly after she fell asleep, Assistant Cheney arrived outside the hospital room.
Justin Kane gazed at Nina Thorne with dark eyes, a shadowy look within them. A cold, stern aura emanated from him.
After a long moment, he finally stood up and walked out the door.
"Sir, I’ve finished the investigation." Assistant Cheney’s expression turned serious as he thought about what he was about to say.
Having worked for him for so long, he had picked up some of his boss’s mannerisms.
Justin Kane raised an eyebrow at him and started walking toward the other end of the corridor, stopping only when they reached an open-air terrace.
"Speak."
Without hesitation, Assistant Cheney reported every detail. "Those thugs were all hired by Serena Kane. Their goal was to deliberately wait there for you, Sir."
He paused, then added, "The text message I received saying that Madam was in trouble was also sent by Serena Kane. The purpose was to lure you there. She also started a live stream in an attempt to expose and slander your relationship with Madam."
Justin Kane’s gaze turned chillingly cold, inch by inch. "And her?"
"She’s currently being held, awaiting your instructions," Assistant Cheney reported, asking for orders.
Although Serena Kane had been kicked out of the Kane Family, she clearly still had countless ties to them.
Especially since she was still in constant contact with the matriarch, he didn’t dare to deal with her without authorization.
"Scrub the internet clean. I don’t want to hear a single piece of slander about her," Justin Kane ordered in a low voice, his face grim and dark, brimming with menace.
Assistant Cheney nodded. "It’s all been taken care of. The live stream was discovered early, so it didn’t spread."
"Turn the thugs over to the police."
Justin Kane’s gaze was piercing and devoid of any warmth. "As for Serena Kane... of course, it would be better to let my wife deal with her personally."
’Poor Nina Thorne,’ he thought. ’Just a moment ago, she was blaming herself for not being careful enough and getting targeted by those thugs.’
’Little did she know, this was all a setup.’
’She grew up sheltered like a flower in a greenhouse, doted on her whole life. She has no idea how vicious people can be.’
Thinking of the grievances and harm she had suffered time and time again, Justin Kane’s heart clenched, as if bound by ropes. A dense, dull ache suffocated him.
"Understood."
Assistant Cheney agreed, seemingly having expected this outcome.
’The boss dotes on his wife more than anything.’ ’It’s just that tonight’s incident was a completely undeserved disaster for her.’
-
「The next morning.」
Felicia Yates was still trying to call Serena Kane’s phone.
She had been trying all last night, but the call never went through.
Now, after waking up today, she had tried several more times with the same result. She was so anxious she wanted to smash her phone.
’I wonder if last night’s plan succeeded or not!’
"What are you doing? Making calls so early in the morning? What’s so urgent?" Ethan Kane asked dubiously as he came down the stairs.
Felicia Yates immediately wiped the expression from her face. "It’s nothing. I was just worried about Cole and wanted to ask about his recovery."
She walked over to Ethan Kane, and they sat down at the dining table together.
After sitting down, Ethan Kane seemed to recall something and asked, "Are you still in contact with Serena?"
She froze for a second, then shook her head. "No. Why?"
"After what happened, the impact on the Kane Family was too great. You should cut off all contact with her."
Ethan Kane warned, "Especially since the Old Master has given the order."
"But..."
Ethan Kane didn’t give her a chance to finish. "I know she’s the daughter of your deceased best friend and you want to take good care of her, but that incident was a scandal for the Kane Family. You need to understand your priorities."
"Also, Nina Thorne and Cole Kane have already broken off their engagement. Although they were engaged before, they had no real relationship. When you have time, start looking for a suitable match for Cole. See which family’s daughter would be a good fit."
Ethan Kane’s expression was stern, his tone leaving no room for refusal.
Although Felicia Yates was unhappy about it, she had no choice but to agree. "Fine, I’ll look into it."
As soon as she finished speaking, Ethan Kane suddenly remembered something else and frowned. "Speaking of which, when Nina Thorne fell into the water ten years ago, who was it that saved her?"
"Was it Justin?"
Ethan Kane’s memory was a bit hazy. Felicia Yates quickly interjected, "Of course not. The one who saved her was Cole. Nina Thorne was the ungrateful one. She got engaged to Cole over such a small matter, only to turn him into a laughingstock in our social circle."
"That’s not a big deal. As long as the marriage alliance between our families is still in place..."
Ethan Kane stopped short, having almost let something slip.
Felicia Yates looked at him suspiciously. "What?"
"It’s nothing. Just do as I said."
"I know."
Felicia Yates didn’t press the issue. Her mind was completely focused on Serena Kane, wondering how the plan had turned out.
-
「9:00 AM, in the hospital room.」
Miss King had specially prepared some light congee and brought it over. Nina Thorne ate it quietly.
Her gaze would occasionally drift to Justin Kane, who was sitting on the sofa, in the middle of a meeting.
He was on a video conference call.
His chiseled face was breathtakingly handsome. He already possessed a noble and refined air, and the focused, captivating way he looked while working seriously only added to his mature charm.
After finishing her congee, Nina Thorne checked the messages in her WeChat group.
The short drama series that had recently gone live had surpassed one billion views. Not only would Nina Thorne receive a twenty-percent commission, but the others would also get bonuses.
Seth Lawson was praising her in the group and announced that a celebration banquet would be held in a few days.
The director, producer, and others were all in the group congratulating Nina Thorne.
"It was all thanks to everyone’s hard work," Nina Thorne typed out humbly.
Seth Lawson: "No matter what, the company really struck gold with you. And for that, I have one person I need to thank properly."
When Nina Thorne saw that message, she was taken aback and couldn’t help but glance at Justin Kane, a suspicion immediately forming in her mind.
After that, Seth Lawson sent a large red envelope in the group. Everyone scrambled to claim it, and the new messages pushed the previous conversation up.
Nina Thorne managed to grab a large share worth several hundred yuan, and she joined everyone else in sending "Thank you, Boss" sticker packs.
She then smiled and exited the chat. When she looked up, she found that Justin Kane had finished his meeting at some point and was now standing by her bed.
"What are you so happy about?" Justin Kane asked, a smile appearing in his dark eyes as he looked at her.
"Seth Lawson sent a red envelope in the group to celebrate the huge success of the short drama."
Nina Thorne explained succinctly. The swelling on her face had gone down quite a bit, especially the bruise by the corner of her eye, which had faded to a light greenish-blue.
Justin Kane frowned slightly, then watched as her thin lips curved into a smile. "I told you my little Nina Thorne was amazing. See? You’ve become a bona fide star scriptwriter."
Nina Thorne gave a self-conscious laugh. "This kind of short-form script isn’t really respected in the industry."
"Especially since many people look down on it as a minor profession."
Nina Thorne’s gaze fell, her self-deprecating smile hiding a lack of confidence.
This was the result of years of being put down by Cole Kane.
Even though she had been changing over the past two months and gradually regaining her former confidence, it was impossible to completely revert back all at once.
"There’s no such thing as a superior or inferior profession."
Justin Kane leaned down slightly, looking into her eyes and guiding her gently. "Every line of work has its purpose. Everyone can shine in their own field."
"I believe in you. You’re wonderful."
Staring at his handsome face from up close, Nina Thorne’s heart began to race. It took her a long moment to calm down enough to ask, "The reason I was able to get into Reagan... was it because you recommended me to Seth Lawson?"
Previously, after she had her script plagiarized at OmniCorp, Reagan had proactively contacted her and signed her quickly.
Thinking back on it now, he must have had a hand in it.
Justin Kane smiled openly. "I was only responsible for the recommendation. Everything after that was all your own skill."
"So, you see? My little Nina Thorne is amazing."
As he spoke, Justin Kane patted her head, his dark eyes filled with a doting look so intense it could make a person melt.
Nina Thorne’s heart thumped wildly.
’Those peach-blossom eyes of his are so full of affection, he could probably make a dog fall in love with him,’ Nina Thorne thought. She was about to drown in his tenderness, unable to pull herself free.
Fortunately, Justin Kane’s expression suddenly turned serious. "You’re being discharged tonight. I’m taking you somewhere."
Nina Thorne asked, stunned, "Where are we going?"
"To get revenge."
Justin Kane glanced at her, a half-smile playing on his lips. "Those thugs were acting on Serena Kane’s orders to do what they did to you. Don’t you want to let off some steam?"
’So it really was her!’
Nina Thorne was no saint who would just let her go. She gritted her teeth and said, "I do!"
Since she had the opportunity, she definitely wouldn’t go easy on her tonight. She had to teach that wicked woman, who had caused trouble time and time again, a proper lesson!
