Chapter 159: The Threat

"Damn it! Who the hell are you?" Ryland shouted, staring at the man in annoyance.

Abigail was stunned to hear Ryland’s angry voice. She turned and saw a man standing between them, his back facing her. Abigail was shocked at what she saw. Though she couldn’t see his face, she recognized his jacket and long hair.

"Vincent!?"

Worried that Vincent might harm and incapacitate Ryland, she raised her hand and gently tapped his back. When he turned to look at her, she smiled and said, "There’s no need to waste energy talking to him, Vincent. Let’s go inside..."

Vincent nodded. He looked at Ryland once again, sending his killing-intent gaze at him. As if he wanted to warn him with his gaze, "Try to move, and you might lose your head!"

However, the shameless Ryland did not respond to his threat. He was too angry to realize that Abigail already had a new man.

’How could she already have a boyfriend? Didn’t she say she only loved me? No way, she cheated on me! What the hell, Abigail?’ Countless questions raced through his mind, filling him with fury as he felt the urge to run after them.

"Abigail Snow! Wait! Stop right there, Abigail!" As he watched them continue walking toward the door, he couldn’t help but curse her under his breath.

Looking at Abigail and the man beside her, ignoring him, Ryland continues, "You are such a faker, Abigail! You cheated on me with another man? And how dare you be angry at me? Wah, I can’t believe you are also bitch, just like your sis—"

Ryland’s voice cut off as the man with shoulder-length hair turned and gripped his jacket tightly. With a sudden burst of strength, he pushed Ryland’s body against the hard wall behind him.

Everything happened so quickly that Ryland didn’t have time to react. His breath caught in his throat as the man’s grip tightened, making it difficult for him to breathe.

Ryland feels pressured by the man’s cold aura. She pushes him away to break free from his tight grip, but the man doesn’t move. He could feel his knee weaker when his gaze met his sharp gaze, sharp enough to make him lose his voice.

"If you still have the guts to appear before Miss Abigail, you will suffer the consequences." His tone was frosty. "Now, please get out of my sight!" Vincent hissed before releasing his grip. He watched Ryland fall to the concrete floor with satisfaction, and a smile framed his face.

His coldness instantly faded when he turned to see Abigail and smiled at her, "Let’s go, Miss Abigail..." he gestured to her with his hand before opening the door leading them to the corridor where Sophie’s bedroom was.

Abigail couldn’t utter anything. She was still tense about what had happened. In just mere minutes, Ryland appears in this place. What shocked her was how Vincent suddenly appeared and knocked out Ryland like a paper doll. freёweɓnovel.com

As Abigail walked down the nursing home’s corridor toward her Grandma’s room, she noticed Vincent trailing behind her, deliberately keeping his distance.

She slowed her pace and asked, "Since when have you been there, Vincent?"

Abigail recalled not having seen him in the backyard garden earlier. She had only noticed several patients and their families wandering around, and she hadn’t even seen Ryland when he appeared.

"Since that man’s car arrived at this nursing home," Vincent replied calmly. His words shocked Abigail, making her realize that he already knew Ryland.

Abigail stopped in her tracks and turned to face him, her curiosity clearly showing in her gaze. She demanded an answer, "Did Sawyer give you his photo?"

Vincent fell silent for a moment before responding, "Yes. He provided me with pictures of individuals who could pose a threat to you, including your ex-fiancé, Ryland Wood. So, when I recognized him here, I decided to follow him discreetly."

Abigail couldn’t help but laugh inwardly when she heard what Sawyer had done for her. A warm feeling filled her heart, knowing he had arranged everything for her safety.

Even though she was confident in her ability to handle Ryland, she knew that if he forced her hand, she might end up injured since Ryland also had martial arts skills. She felt grateful that Vincent was there to deal with that troublemaker.

"Thank you, Vincent, for your help," Abigail expressed her gratitude.

"That’s my job—to protect you, Miss," Vincent replied.

Abigail decided not to say anything more; she nodded at Vincent before continuing her walk.

...

Before long, she found herself standing in front of her Grandma’s bedroom. However, she hesitated to open the door, worried that her presence might distract them.

She waited, but what felt like a minute stretched into what seemed like an hour. Her hands clenched into tight fists as she struggled to endure the wait.

Finally, after a few more seconds, Abigail made up her mind to enter. She no longer cared if her Grandma would scold her. Taking a deep breath, she slowly opened the door.

What Abigail saw left her speechless. She was surprised to find her grandmother and Sawyer chatting casually and laughing. On the table, she noticed all the presents that Sawyer had brought for her grandma, and they were all open.

She even saw her grandma holding an expensive multivitamin from the East in her hand.

Their faces were not tense; they were simply happy, just like when her grandma first saw Sawyer. Her eyes radiated joy.

’Thank you, God! My grandma has finally accepted Sawyer...’ Abigail couldn’t contain her happiness. ’Well done, Sawyer... Well done...’ She couldn’t help but praise him in her mind.

"Oh, my dear Abby... you finally arrived." Sophie was the first to notice Abigail. Her spring-like smile spread across her lips as she gestured for her granddaughter to join them.

Amid her confusion, Abigail turned her gaze to Sawyer. She saw him smile lovingly at her, just as he always did when he saw her. His calm demeanor put her at ease, assuring her everything was alright now. Her grandmother no longer displayed any disapproval toward him.

"I’m sorry, Abby," Sawyer said with an apologetic smile. "I was so caught up with the presents for Grandma that I forgot to reply to your text. Did you enjoy the scenery outside?" he continued after noticing her settle back into her seat.

"It’s okay. I also have a phone call with a friend, and the weather outside is so enjoyable," Abigail said, smiling at him before looking at her grandmother. When she gazed into her grandmother’s eyes, she saw genuine happiness. The fear and dislike that had once been there seemed to have disappeared.

Abigail hesitated to ask about their conversation earlier, worried her grandmother might feel unhappy with Sawyer again. Instead, she joined them in discussing the gifts that Sawyer had brought for her grandmother.

"Grandma, you look happy with these gifts. Did Sawyer bring you what you need?" Abigail asked, picking up a skincare product meant for older women.

She also noticed a sophisticated massage tool that her grandmother had needed. Abigail remembered wanting to purchase it for her but had set the idea aside because the price was enough to empty her bank account.

What surprised her most was the beautiful winter coat perfectly suited her grandmother, who loved bright colors.

’How could Sawyer have known Grandma’s favorites?’ Abigail wondered. ’Gosh, did Sawyer consult with Grandma Martha before choosing these gifts?’

"Yes, Sawyer brought what I needed," Sophie said with a happy smile as she showed Abigail the vitamins from the east that are known for bone health.

"Look, Abby. This is the vitamin my friend Natalia took when she broke her bone. She healed quickly. I will take this every day; I want to be able to walk again and visit you in the capital," Sophie said excitedly. Her words left Abigail stunned.

Sophie continued, "My grandson-in-law said that when I heal, he will bring me to your house in the capital and stay there with you."

Abigail turned to Sawyer and silently asked him with her gaze, "How much have you told Grandma about us?"

As if he understood her thoughts, Sawyer smiled mysteriously at her. He stood up and said, "Grandma, I will ask someone to prepare our lunch. I hope you wouldn’t mind waiting here with Abby."

"Yes, yes, dear. Of course, I wouldn’t mind," Sophie nodded in agreement with Sawyer. This is almost lunchtime."

"Abby, can you wait here with Grandma? I will return soon." His loving gaze instantly reassured Abigail, and she nodded, watching his back disappear behind the door.

Abigail turned to her grandmother, her eyes still shining with curiosity. She noticed Sophie was holding another gift: a jewelry set.

She wasn’t interested in talking about the jewelry in her grandma’s hand, but she wanted to know what had happened earlier.

"Granny, why did you ask me to leave the room? What did you talk about with Sawyer?" Abigail asked.
