Chapter 158: Regret!

"Hi, Abigail. Can I call you now? I want to update you on a few important things."

As Abigail typed her reply, another message came through.

"If you’re busy, that’s fine. I can call you when you’re free."

A faint smile spread across her face as she read his text. How could a person like Andy Bennet, the trillionaire, sound surprisingly humble? She had never imagined someone like him could be so gentle with an ordinary woman like her.

"Sure, you can, Andy!"

Abigail wasn’t sure what he wanted to discuss, but she needed his distraction; otherwise, she might end up in the emergency room over her blood pressure. The thought of waiting for her grandma to talk to Sawyer alone felt torturous.

Her cell phone buzzed again, and she quickly answered Andy’s call.

"Hi, Andy..." she greeted him casually. She remembered their bet—if she spoke formally, she would have to treat him to lunch.

"I’m sorry if I’m disturbing you, Abigail," he said, his soft laugh echoing on the other end, causing her to also chuckle.

"It’s fine. I’m not busy right now. So, what do you want to tell me?" she asked.

"Glad you’re not busy, But I’m still worried about disturbing you." He cleared his throat before continuing. "Oh, right, Abigail, I wanted to let you know about your lawyer. This morning, he informed me that you agreed to let my company pay his legal fees."

Abigail held her cell phone tightly. Although she felt terrible about Silverstone Group spending a substantial amount on top lawyers like Rowan Sterling, as Andy had insisted, she thought she had no choice.

"I told him about it last night, so everything is now under your company, Andy. Thank you in advance for your help; I appreciate it," Abigail said sincerely.

Even though Silverstone Group is a large company, it felt strange to her that they would spend so much money on her, especially since she wasn’t a permanent employee.

"Please, there’s no need to thank me. Helping you is one of our responsibilities. After all, what happened to you is related to our business."

His words did make her feel a bit better. "Still, I need to express my gratitude, Andy."

"Hahaha, okay, I will accept it if we have lunch today..." Andy said excitedly, surprising Abigail. "How about lunch near your house? You can choose the place. I can either come to the location or pick you up at your house," he offered.

Abigail laughed, realizing that his words had trapped her again. She didn’t expect him to invite her to lunch.

"Andy, thank you, but I’m sorry to decline," she said, hearing a deep sigh of disappointment from him. She hurriedly explained, "I’m not in the capital; I’m actually in another town visiting my grandma."

"Oh, is your grandma alright?" Andy asked, sounding concerned. "Your grandma is in Orange Town, right? When will you be back?"

"Yes, she is in Orange Town," Abigail replied, pleased that Andy remembered her grandma. She recalled telling him briefly only once during their last meeting. "I will be back next week, but I’m not sure of the exact day..." she continued.

Abigail no longer needed to work at the café; she planned to spend the next few days enjoying nature before returning to the capital and diving into her new life plan of establishing her own studio.

"Okay, duly noted. I will call you again later, Abigail," Andy said.

"Sure," she responded.

After talking to Andy Bennet, Abigail’s thoughts turned to Sawyer and her grandma.

Sighing deeply, she tried to clear her mind by scrolling through funny reels on Instagram, but she still couldn’t shake the feeling of worry about Sawyer.

As Abigail stood from the garden bench, she slowly returned to the building. However, before she could enter, a voice she despised called her name from behind.

"Abigail, we need to talk!"

Gritting her teeth in anger, she turned to face him. "What do you want, Ryland Wood?" she asked coldly, her tone enough to freeze the air around her.

Just looking at him was enough to plummet her mood. Nevertheless, her curiosity began to surface. She wondered what he wanted to say after their last encounter at the Century Hotel when he had tricked her into meeting Andy Bennet.

"Abigail, please come back to me," his pleading tone resonated like a melody in Abigail’s ears. Not because she wavered but because she was satisfied that this man was finally begging.

"Companies need your help, Abby. Can you return to work with Urbangrid?" he continued.

His last words instantly irritated her. Although she thought he genuinely wanted her back, he only saw her as an employee he needed.

What a jerk!

How could she continue to work for him while torturing herself by witnessing the affection he and Vanessa shared? She had never imagined returning to Urbangrid.

"Mr. Wood, I can’t believe you’ve already forgotten your promise: you will never appear before me or ask me anything related to your company." She shook her head lightly.

Abigail continued, "I’m truly sorry to hear that you now have amnesia. Or are you just a jerk who never tells the truth?" she inwardly chuckled as she watched his expression darken like a storm cloud looming overhead.

Ryland suppressed his annoyance after hearing Abigail’s response. However, his bloodshot eyes and trembling voice betrayed him.

"Abigail... I admit it! I regret hurting you. Having an affair with your sister is one of the stupidest things I’ve ever done in my life. I hated myself for it."

Abigail laughed inwardly, recognizing how insincere his words sounded.

"But everything has happened... I can’t turn back time to stop myself. The only thing I can do now is earn your forgiveness and prove to you that I will never hurt or betray you again." He ran his fingers through his dark hair, trying to calm himself before continuing.

"I know you still love me, Abigail. Let’s start over, okay? Come back to me. I promise I will never cheat on you again. Let’s continue our engagement and get married as planned."

Abigail was rendered speechless. This man is shameless.

"Did you say Vanessa is carrying your child?" she asked, trying to jog his memory. She was worried that he had really lost his memories.

Ryland’s hand clenched tightly. His mind was on the verge of breaking as thoughts of Vanessa consumed him. That childish woman was enough to make him regret choosing her over Abigail.

"I’m not sure if her child is mine. So—" He shrugged.

Abigail was once again shocked, but she tried to appear calm as if she didn’t waver at all while hearing his words.

’Ryland Wood, you are an evil man! Pure evil!!’

Abigail scolded him in her mind. She couldn’t believe she ever had a relationship with this man, even almost getting married to him.

’How dare this jerk lightly say those words? He wanted us to start our relationship after having an affair with Vanessa. Did he think I’m an easy woman!? A stupid woman? Gosh!’ She tried hard not to send a hard slap to his head.

Abigail could no longer describe how much she hated this man.

"Are you done talking!?" Abigail clenched her hand into a tight fist. She was exhausted talking to this social scumbag.

Ryland frowned.

Although he noticed Abigail’s anger, he ignored it. He continued, "Abigail, I know you’re still struggling financially and having trouble caring for your grandmother. You need to get back to work to earn some money. Come on, return to my company. I promise to raise your salary."

Abigail couldn’t believe what she was hearing. She was at a loss for words and stared at him, her expression of disbelief and disdain.

"If you prefer not to come into the office, I understand. You can work from home or any location you choose, but I really need your help securing a contract for the company with your design..."

Ryland’s eyes remained locked on her; he could see anger still flashing in her gaze.

"Abigail, please say something, huh!?" he pleaded.

’How could he ask me back so easily? Apologize casually after insulting me? Does he think I’m brainless? What a piece of trash!’

"Mr. Wood, please never appear before me again. This is the last time I warn you. If you still appear before me, I will not hesitate to use violence on you!" she said coldly.

Abigail turned around to continue her steps back to the building. She didn’t want to waste her time talking to Ryland.

It felt like a fire was burning inside Ryland as he watched Abigail refuse him.

Ryland hurried after Abigail, calling out, "Stop, Abigail! I’m not done talking!" He reached out, trying to grasp her hand, which was just a few steps ahead of him.

However, before he could make contact, a man stepped into his path, causing their bodies to nearly collide.

"Damn it! Who the hell are you?" Ryland shouted, staring at the man in annoyance.
