Chapter 161: Finally Meet Ethan

Abigail and Sawyer didn’t stay long in the nursing home. They immediately headed to the cabin in Starfall Mountain.

After a few hours’ drive, they finally arrived at Sawyer’s cabin.

This was Abigail’s second visit to the place, but this time, something caught her attention as she stepped out of the car. An unfamiliar young man with dark, messy hair emerged from the cabin, walking quickly toward them with a big, spring-like smile.

Abigail gripped Sawyer’s hand tightly as if she wanted to ask him who the man was.

Looking at her curious gaze, Sawyer knew what she was about to ask. He smiled at her and gently squeezed her hand. However, before he could respond, Ethan loudly greeted Abigail.

"Sister-in-law! I’m so damn thrilled to meet you!"

Slowly, Abigail felt her cheeks warm at how the man addressed her as "Sister-in-law." She wasn’t used to hearing that, especially from Sawyer’s close friend. It still felt strange to her ears.

"Wow, you’re so beautiful, elegant, and humble. No wonder my boss Sawyer fell in love with you so quickly," Ethan said excitedly as he stopped two steps before them.

Seeing Abigail staring at him silently and realizing she was confused, he quickly added, "Sorry! I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Ethan Smith, and I am Boss Sawyer’s favorite personal staff..."

Ethan grinned and scratched his not-itchy head when he saw Sawyer give him a ’keep your mouth shut’ kind of gaze.

Hearing him refer to himself as Sawyer’s favorite personal staff member caught Abigail off guard. No wonder he spoke casually to Sawyer; even Brody and Vincent had never shown this hype when they talked to him.

’Huh? Ethan? I think I’ve heard that name before,’ Abigail thought, trying to recall where. Seconds later, a smile appeared on her lips as the awkwardness faded. "Hello, Ethan. It’s nice to meet you, too."

Feeling the warmth of Sawyer’s hand, still gripping hers tightly, she turned to him.

"Let’s go inside first. You can talk with him in there," Sawyer said, placing his hand gently on her back and leading her inside.

"Yes, sister-in-law, this place is colder than the capital! You must be freezing. I’ve already lit the wooden stove inside," Ethan said enthusiastically, gesturing for them to walk to the cabin.

Ethan followed them but stopped when Vincent grabbed his arm.

"What is it, V?" Ethan asked, frowning. He didn’t like it when Vincent held him back.

Vincent leaned closer and whispered, "Have you done what the boss ordered?" As they entered the cabin, his eyes were still fixed on Abigail and Sawyer.

"Of course! Everything is under control, man. In three days, that guy will get his punishment. He’s so stupid—how dare he go after sister-in-law again? He’s challenging our boss!"

"Good... Good, Ethan!" Vincent nodded slowly, then released his grip on Ethan’s shoulder, allowing him to enter the cabin.

While inside the cabin, Abigail finally remembers Ethan Smith. She recalls Sawyer mentioning that Ethan tried to match her with Sawyer and tricked Ronan Peters into renting his house to her.

"Gosh! How could I have forgotten about him?" She smiled faintly and turned to see Sawyer adding more wood to the stove with his back to her.

"Sawyer, I remember you telling me about Ethan before. So, he’s our cupid?" she asked, laughing lightly.

"Hmm, he was," Sawyer replied, facing her. "He is so annoying, but I can’t scold him now. He helps us a lot so we can be together faster..." He let out a quiet sigh.

"Don’t be too hard on your people, Boss Sawyer," Abigail playfully teased, approaching him. "He is indeed important to our relationship."

Sawyer slowly lifted his hand and placed it on her cheek. With his other hand, he gently smoothed the hair on her forehead.

"Abby..." His voice was soft. "I hated it when they called me that. But when I asked them to stop, they never listened. So, my dear Abby..." He guided her to sit on the couch and then knelt before her. He took her hands and said, "Please, never call me that. It feels strange to hear you also call me that." He smiled.

Abigail felt her heart pounding when Sawyer took her hands and gently kissed the back of her hand. To distract herself, she hurriedly replied, "Alright, I’ll remember that. I will never call you that..."

"Good. Because I might kiss you now if you call me that again."

Abigail laughed softly. "Geez, Sawyer, you just tried to kiss me—" Her sentence trailed off when a slight cough was heard from the doorway. She moved her head away from Sawyer, who was leaning in to kiss her.

"Boss, please spare my single soul..." Ethan chuckled as he joined them near the fireplace. His gaze never left Abigail; he admired her beauty.

Ethan remembered that when he visited Sawyer’s house yesterday, he had wanted to meet her, but she had suddenly become unwell, and his boss had forbidden him from doing so. He felt grateful that Sawyer had allowed him to join them at the cabin today.

"Stop looking at Abby like that, Ethan. Or I won’t let you meet her again in the future," Sawyer warned.

"Cough! Cough!" Ethan almost choked in shock at his boss’s comments. He quickly turned his gaze to his boss. "Sir, I heard that Ronan will be joining us too. He wanted to meet his sister-in-law." He said, trying to distract his annoying boss.

A thin line appeared on Sawyer’s forehead. He was already worried that Abby would feel uncomfortable with Ethan around, but he couldn’t refuse Ethan’s request to join them at the cabin.

But Ronan? Why on earth did he also want to come here? He was supposed to be busy managing his latest project in Orange Town.

"Why is he here? Is he running out of work?" Sawyer asked, sitting beside Abigail. His expression toward Ethan clearly showed his annoyance.

"Sir, I’m not sure if his work is finished. But Peters mentioned that he wanted to apologize to his sister-in-law." Ethan smiled thinly, noticing Abigail’s shocked expression.

"Why does he need to apologize? Did he make a mistake, too, Abby?" Sawyer asked, turning his attention to Abigail. "Did Ronan ever offend you?" His tone was noticeably gentle when speaking to her, starkly contrasting how he addressed Ethan.

Abigail shook her head, unable to recall having spoken with Ronan Peters about anything other than the house contract.

’Why did he suddenly want to apologize?’ she wondered, completely confused.

A relieved flash in Sawyer’s gaze as he turned back to Ethan, he said, "You guys can use the cabin outside. I’ll sleep with Abby upstairs."

"Okay, sir..." Ethan replied, holding back a smile as he nodded. He was thrilled with how quickly his boss progressed with Abby.

Abigail was taken aback. She had forgotten entirely that the cabin only had one room. Hearing Sawyer casually mention that he would sleep with her made her heart race. frёewebηovel.cѳm

Her mind raced as she imagined what would happen tonight. The noise in her mind was so loud it made hearing what Sawyer and Ethan said nearly impossible.

Later, when Ethan stood up from his chair and excused himself, Abigail snapped out of her thoughts. She nodded at him as he left to give them some privacy.

"Abby, let’s go upstairs," Sawyer said, standing up and extending his hand to her. "You need to rest. I know you’re exhausted..." He continued when he noticed she wasn’t moving.

Abigail took his hand and stood beside him. "How do you know I’m tired?"

She started to worry that this man could read her mind. She was exhausted after a long-distance trip and had just recovered from a fever.

The bedroom looked just as it had the last time she visited.

Abigail noticed her bag resting on the console table. When she opened the wardrobe, she was surprised to find several new winter clothes hanging inside.

Surprisingly, she also saw Sawyer’s clothes hanging next to hers. Her heart raced as she realized he had planned for them to share the same room.

’Gosh, so we will share a bedroom?’ she thought.

Turning to look at Sawyer, she saw him standing by the window, gazing outside with his back turned toward her. She silently sighs before walking to approach him.

Abigail stood beside him, following his line of sight, curious about what had captured his focus.

She was stunned when she saw the beautiful scenery in the distance: a river surrounded by vibrant autumn leaves, looking absolutely gorgeous.

"You bought new clothes for me again!?" Abigail wanted to ask him that, but the breathtaking view distracted her. Instead, she said, "Wow, Sawyer, you were right. The scenery in autumn is truly one of a kind."

She remembered Sawyer telling her about it when he brought her to visit this place the first time.

"Mhmm, yes, so truly one of a kind—" Sawyer replied, his gaze fixed solely on her. He didn’t care about the scenery; he cared only about her.

However, Abigail was oblivious to this, as her attention remained captivated by the view.
