Chapter 85: Lana, Do You Like Kian?
After a brief goodbye with Brody, Abigail rushed toward the café. She was relieved to arrive just in time, and luckily, the café wasn’t as busy as usual.
Abigail went to the staff lounge to prepare and joined Lana at the front counter, helping her prepare a few customer orders.
Once Lana finished processing the orders, she finally approached Abigail. "Girl, when you’re done, come to my office. There’s something I want to tell you."
Although a bit confused by Lana’s slightly mysterious expression, Abigail nodded. "Sure, Boss..." She answered before continuing to prepare beverages for the next customer.
Before long, finishing the last order, Abigail didn’t immediately go into Lana’s office. Instead, she approached Tanya, the cashier on duty.
"Tanya, may I ask you something?" she smiled at the cute young girl with the red pixie haircut beside her. Like Erica, Tanya was still in college, majoring in Art and actively pursuing her dream of becoming an artist.
"Sure, Sis..." Tanya responded, placing her cell phone down and looking at Abigail.
"Something wonderful must have happened today, right? Otherwise, there is no other explanation for why Boss Lana looks like she just won the lottery. And I know she never bought one. Do you know what that something is?" Abigail asked curiously.
"Geez... you’re so on point, Sis Abby. Boss Lana is indeed delighted. The kind of delight I’ve never seen before!"
"I see. And why’s that?"
"A barista will be joining us soon. That’s why she’s been smiling so much," Tanya explained.
Abigail was surprised. "No wonder she didn’t stop smiling. Did someone new apply for the job while I was on my day off?" she asked curiously. Last Saturday, Lana hadn’t mentioned anything about a new recruit.
"Sis Abigail, you misunderstood. The person isn’t a recruit; he’s an old employee. I believe you already know about him..." There was a hint of anxiety in Tanya’s eyes as she explained, but Abigail failed to notice it.
"You mean Kian Blake?" Abigail asked. She had worked here for a few weeks and had often heard the man’s name from Lana.
"Yes, that’s right. Kian will resume work in the next few days."
Confusion crossed Abigail’s mind upon hearing Tanya’s explanation about Kian.
’Why did Lana accept him back when she often said she had fired him for being absent for so long? This is strange. Did Tanya mishear something?’ Abigail wondered, but she didn’t ask Tanya any further questions. She decided to ask Lana later.
Just as Abigail was about to go inside, another young couple arrived and ordered beverages. After processing their order and asking Tanya to serve it, she immediately went inside to look for Lana.
Abigail approached Lana’s office with a cup of latte. Instead of entering immediately, she paused near the door, observing Lana’s mood.
Seeing Lana’s cheerful expression as she wrote something on paper, Abigail chuckled and said, "Hi, Boss! You look like you are having a sunshine and rainbow day. And I know you didn’t win the lottery because you never bought one. Can you share your happy day with me?"
"Damn it, girl! I can’t hide anything from you, can I? Are you sure you don’t know how to read my mind? Because you JUST DID!" Lana replied excitedly, smiling broadly as she set her pen down and approached Abigail. "Let’s sit on the sofa."
Abigail settled onto the sofa opposite Lana, sipping her latte while waiting for her to continue.
"Listen, girl. I’m so happy. Our dark and awfully hectic days will finally be over." Lana’s eyes beamed, and her face slowly blushed as she looked at Abigail.
Lana’s expression amused Abigail. If this were her first meeting with Lana, she might think that Lana was sexually attracted to her; the sparkle in Lana’s eyes made her feel a slight shiver.
’Gosh! What am I thinking?’ Abigail quickly shook her head, dismissing her thoughts, and smiled at Lana.
"What do you mean, Boss?" Abigail asked, pretending to be clueless, even though she was already aware of Kian’s return from Tanya.
"Abigail, you know what? That foolish Kian is finally returning! He’ll join us in a few days..." Lana paused momentarily, taking a deep breath when she noticed Abigail frowning.
"I know, I know... Girl, don’t judge me like that. I still hate him for being missing in action for so long, but I have no choice but to accept him again. We need him..." Lana tried to explain.
Abigail chuckled, looking at how panicked Lana seemed now.
"Boss, relax. You don’t have to justify your decision to me. But I’m curious about something..." Abigail briefly paused, puzzled about whether to ask her or not about something strange that now filled her mind.
"Curious about what?" This time, Lana was the one who frowned at Abigail, curious about what she wanted to say.
Abigail smiled at Lana before she expressed what was bothering her. "Lana, do you like Kian? I mean, like him as a male person, not an acquaintance."
Instantly, Lana’s calm expression turned stiff. She blinked several times, clearly shocked to hear Abigail’s question, which hit her directly. She indeed had a hidden relationship with Kian, but no one knew. Only she and Kian knew; even the staff at this café didn’t know about it. She never told them.
There was silence for a moment; Lana could only look at Abigail in shock.
After a few seconds, Lana finally spoke, "Abigail, wow, I’m scared of you now. How did you know I like him?" she still got goosebumps hearing how accurate Abigail was.
"The clue is all over your face, Boss Lana. I bet everyone knows about it by now," Abigail laughed, noticing Lana hiding her blushing face behind her palm as she pressed her cheek against it.
"Is it really that obvious? Seriously, how do you know everything?" Lana asked with a hint of surprise in her voice.
"Yes, it’s pretty obvious. I think all the staff here know it; they just don’t have the closeness and opportunity to ask you like I do," Abigail explained. "So, is it true?"
