Chapter 87: Does He Really Have a Wife?
’Wait! That’s Sawyer. Why is he coming here without telling me first?’ Abigail’s heart raced as she hurried back to Tanya.
"Tanya, do you know who ordered the latte?"
"Sis, oh my god, now you’ve asked. I forgot to tell you about that man who ordered the latte—he’s freaking handsome!" Tanya giggled while pointing at Sawyer.
Abigail stifled a laugh at Tanya’s words. "Alright, you can close the sales report and get ready to go home. I’ll handle his order."
"But, Sister Abigail, I also want to serve his coffee. I want to ask for his number. This is my opportunity... to have a handsome boyfriend. Sorry, I mean a handsome friend." She grinned, showing her white teeth.
Abigail couldn’t help but smile at Tanya’s pleading eyes. She didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, knowing how easily Sawyer could captivate someone like Tanya.
"Alright, I won’t stop you, Tanya. Do what you want to do. Good luck!" Abigail smiled at her, gently tapping her shoulder. She was also curious to see Sawyer’s reaction if a young woman asked for his number.
Abigail reentered the staff lounge after making two lattes and cheering up Tanya.
...
She wondered why Sawyer had suddenly appeared in her café without calling her.
When she checked her cell phone, Abigail was surprised to find it was off.
A bitter smile crossed Abigail’s lips as she recalled that she had turned off her phone earlier, angry with her father.
’He must be anxious because I didn’t reply to his text, right? That’s why he came into the café!’ Abigail thought as she took off her apron and started to read his messages.
"Hi, Abby, I will pick you up. Please make two lattes. One for me and the other for you."
"Are you busy?"
"Abby, I tried calling you, but your phone is off. Is everything okay? Are you alright?"
"I’m on my way to your place, Abby. Please text me if you read this. I’m getting worried."
"Abby, I parked my car in the building next to your café. Can you read my text and reply?"
"Abby, are you still in the café? Are you still working?"
"I will come inside if you don’t reply to my texts."
"I’m sorry, Abby, but I’m worried and can’t hold it any longer. I will come in now to see if you’re here."
"I’m glad to see you—no need to greet me. I will wait for you in the car. There’s no rush."
Abigail felt like a giddy teenager who had just received a text from her first crush. Her face warmed as she read through his many messages.
Once she felt slightly composed with her happy emotions, Abigail quickly replied, letting him know she would be out soon to meet him in the car.
But, before Abigail could slide her phone into her bag, she noticed several texts from an unknown number. A wave of dizziness swallowed her, and she suspected her father might have tried to contact her again.
’Adam Snow! What are you trying to do now?’ She shook her head, ignoring all the texts and emails.
Not wanting Sawyer to wait any longer, Abigail hurried out of the staff lounge. However, her steps faltered when she saw Tanya standing behind the cashier with a gloomy expression as if something had just saddened her.
"Hi Tanya, are you alright?" Abigail asked as she approached her. "Why do you look sad?" She suspected that Tanya’s mood drop was related to Sawyer.
Tanya smiled when she saw Abigail coming closer. "Sis, are you heading home?" she asked casually, though her gaze revealed her feelings as if a dark cloud had settled around her.
"Hmm, I feel tired and want to go home now. How about you?" Abigail replied.
"I still need to recap today’s sales and wait for the others to clean up," Tanya explained, her gloominess still lingering in her eyes after the rejection she received from the godly-handsome man.
"I see. Did you manage to get that handsome guy’s phone number?" Abigail asked, curious about Tanya’s encounter with Sawyer.
Tanya shrugged and smiled bitterly. "Of course not. Do you want to know what he said?"
Abigail nodded, trying to appear uninterested although discreetly curious to know.
Tanya chuckled, feeling embarrassed. "Sis Abigail, that man told me he already has a wife, and he also mentioned that his wife doesn’t like it when he talks to other women. After that, he just left."
Abigail almost laughed at Tanya’s words.
’Gosh, Sawyer, how could he say that? Does he really have a wife?’ Abigail wondered. But seconds later, her whole body froze as she realized the woman he was referring to was herself. ’Oh my goodness! Sawyer Jones, you are so impatient...’
"Well, finding a single handsome and rich man is so rare. I’m unlucky to meet him so late," Tanya added, shrugging while smiling at Abigail.
"You will, Tanya. You definitely will... Hwaiting!" After trying to cheer up Tanya, Abigail excused herself and rushed out of the café.
...
The parking lot in front of the café was not as busy as before; only a few vehicles were parked there. Likewise, the parking lot in the building next to the café had only a few cars. However, Abigail didn’t see Sawyer’s car parked there.
"Did he change his car?"
Frowning, Abigail moved toward the parking lot while trying to take out her cell phone to call him. Just as she was about to dial, she saw Sawyer emerge from a black Jeep not far from her.
She saw him in his casual outfit—her favorite long-sleeved black shirt, jeans, and white sneakers—and she couldn’t help but smile. A slight feeling blossomed in her heart; she felt as if her boyfriend had come to pick her up.
Abigail quickly shook her head to dismiss those thoughts and hurried toward him.
"Sawyer, I’m so sorry to keep you waiting," Abigail said, trying to calm her racing heartbeat as she stood before him.
"It’s fine," Sawyer replied with a slight smile. He opened the car door for her. "You look exhausted, Abby. How about we find a nice and quiet restaurant before heading home?"
