Chapter 99: Hannah Walker

After parking his car in the backyard near Abigail’s back door, Brody didn’t leave immediately. He wanted to ensure she went to her house on the top floor. Once he saw the lights on the fourth floor go out again, he called his boss immediately.

"Brody, has Abigail arrived home?" Sawyer asked from the other end of the line.

"Yes, sir. I just saw her go to her room on the fourth floor."

"Are you secretly following her from the café to the house without being noticed?"

Tension gripped Brody as he heard Sawyer’s question. He was worried about telling Sawyer what had happened to Abigail, but he couldn’t keep quiet, knowing she might tell him, too.

"Sir, I did as you ordered. I tailed her using a car she had never seen before and parked in the next building near her café. I tried not to be seen..." Brody began, explaining what he saw when Abigail exited the café.

"However, something happened, sir. When Miss Abigail came out, a man approached her."

"A man?"

Hearing Sawyer’s voice rise slightly, Brody became increasingly anxious. He continued, "Yes, sir. Miss Abigail said the man was one of the baristas, a new co-worker who had just started work this morning. He offered her a ride, and she politely refused, but..."

"But? But WHAT?!"

"The man looked very insistent. He almost forced her. He even grabbed her shoulder. I was about to jump out of the car and confront him, but Miss Abigail already took care of the situation. Given the urgency, I took the initiative to let Miss Abigail see me, and then I greeted her loudly..." Brody paused, waiting for Sawyer to react, but he said nothing.

Brody continued, "Miss Abigail was both surprised and glad to see me. Before I said anything or offered the ride, she immediately left the man and entered my car. She looked scared, but I could see she was trying to remain calm, sir..."

Sawyer was too furious to fully absorb Brody’s last sentence, knowing she was in a dangerous situation and that the person who had tried to harm her was her colleague, enough to fuel the anger within him.

After instructing Brody on a few things, Sawyer immediately hung up the phone and checked the text messages. Still, he was disappointed to find none from her.

Taking a deep sigh, Sawyer pinched his eyebrow while looking at the street below; countless worries started to fill his mind.

Sawyer wanted to call Abigail but didn’t want to make a video call. He needed to calm himself down so he could pretend he didn’t know what was happening to her. Otherwise, she could read his expression, and she might succeed in guessing if he had sent Brody to follow her. freēwēbnovel.com

"Sawyer, is something wrong in Solhaven? Why do you look upset?"

A gentle female voice snapped Sawyer out of his thoughts. He turned his head, and slowly, the anxiety faded from his gaze when he saw a woman with long black hair emerging from the bedroom. Her pale and worried expression melted his anger.

"Did I wake you? I’m sorry if I did." Sawyer slipped his cell phone into his jeans pocket and approached her, smiling when he saw her shake her head.

"No, but I woke up because I was thirsty. Seeing you standing there made me worried. What’s wrong?" she asked, her voice filled with concern as she held Sawyer’s hand.

"Nothing wrong. I was just talking about work with my assistant," Sawyer explained.

"I know you well enough to sense that you’re not telling the whole truth, my son," Hannah Walker said. She could see the worry and anger in his eyes, even though he was trying to hide it. And her intuition as a mother knew that her only son was in trouble.

Sawyer took a deep breath, not wanting to add to his mother’s worries. He squeezed her hand gently to reassure her.

"Mom, you should get some sleep. You need to rest; you still look tired. We have to head to the hospital tomorrow morning for the examination. I hope everything goes well so we can return to Solteria the next day," he said, trying to divert the conversation.

Hannah Walker smiled wryly as she listened to her son’s words.

She hated coming here, but both her son and husband insisted on visiting this country to get a second opinion after she was diagnosed with cancer.

Her husband, Walter Jones, was supposed to accompany her. Still, a sudden issue at his company stopped him from flying with her. She was grateful that her only son, Sawyer, could replace his father.

After landing in this country today, they immediately went to the hospital for an examination. However, before the medical examination results are released tomorrow, the doctor must conduct additional tests.

Hannah smiled at Sawyer, knowing he was trying to avoid her question. She decided not to press him further.

"I know. But I need to drink some water..."

"I’ll bring it to your bedroom, Mom," Sawyer replied. He guided her to her room and then went to the kitchen to get water for her.

After ensuring that his mother needed nothing else, Sawyer immediately returned to his bedroom and rechecked his cell phone before making a video call with Abigail.

If this trip hadn’t been related to his mother, Sawyer wouldn’t have agreed to his father’s sudden request to fly to this place, M Country. Now, he suspected his father just made it up, saying there was an urgent matter at the company.

’Old man! If you only make a random excuse, I will be mad at you!’

Curious to find out what’s happening, Sawyer called Ethan and asked him to investigate the situation at the J Group.

"Is there anything else you need me to do, sir?" Ethan asked.

Slowly, everything Brody had said to him earlier filled his mind again. He immediately asked Ethan to check the CCTV footage from the café parking lot where Abigail worked.
