Betrayed By The Hero, Loved By The Lord-Chapter 70: Trouble in the market (3)
Chapter 70: Trouble in the market (3)
"Leave her, Lucas. It is not worth it and I have somewhere to be," said Selene.
With all the people watching and how Lucinda would react, this could go bad quickly. Selene didn’t want this issue to blow up more than it already did to reach Xavier’s ears.
There were going to be plenty of times when walking away was the best answer and today wa one of them.
Selene waited for Agnes to take the boxes with her new shoes and then walked to the door so Lucas would follow with her other guards.
If they left Lucinda alone, Selene knew Lucinda would surely make herself look a fool.
Lucinda didn’t try to approach Selene again since she was concerned about the guards. Seeing Selene be so protected Lucinda started to wonder why she wasn’t walking around with guards as well so she could be protected in these moments.
She was the mother of the kingdom’s hero so it was only fitting she had guards and the same luxuries Selene got her hands on. It wasn’t fair that after everything which happened recently, it was Selene who seemingly struck gold as Gabriel was yet to offer money to Lucinda.
Lucinda had debts which needed to be paid before she could flaunt her new status like she wanted.
Lucinda exited the shop but this time, she didn’t follow Selene. As long as the guards were around Selene then there wouldn’t be any success in a conversation between them.
Instead, Lucinda decided to find her son. It was about time Gabriel did something to humble the heartless witch even if it meant getting on Lord Blackthorn’s bad side.
"Something has come over that man," Lucinda mumbled, thinking about Lord Blackthorn. "Why else would he have married her? He needs a priest. Where is he?" She wondered, trying to find where Gabriel had gone.
Unaware of his mother meeting with Selene, Gabriel was distracted by the people who got close to him to praise him and simply be around the kingdom’s hero.
Gabriel enjoyed the attention he did not have before his victories at war. The king should move fast to reward him with land and a title since he was so well-loved by the town.
Gabriel was confident that if he were to travel to other towns they would run to him. He did not want a day to come when his face would not be recongnised right away.
Gabriel excused himself from the crowd to enjoy a drink. There was much for him to do like frequenting the palace and preparing for his wedding which was quickly becoming the talk of the town.
He wanted it to steal all the light which had been on Selene’s wedding which no one knew anything about. How could she marry one of the wealthiest men in town but her wedding was not attended by his peers? Was Selene trying to appear frugal?
"Don’t drink too much," Oliver said as he took a seat beside Gabriel. "I want what he has."
Gabriel glanced at the man he hadn’t seen since he returned. "I was starting to think you were dead or upset with me."
"I’ve been working to take care of my family and why would I be upset with you? Did you think I sided with that woman?" Oliver asked.
"Well, your wife is close to Selene. I wouldn’t be surprised if you turned to hate me," Gabriel replied. He knew Oliver needed something to seek him out like this.
"No," Oliver shook his head. "That couldn’t be any further from what happened. I told my wife not to meet with Selene. It is for her good. Recently, I had to send Selene out of my home."
"Did you? Your wife must not have taken it well," Gabriel said since he knew how close the two women were. "You do not need to do that. I am not upset if your wife meets with Selene. It is expected that they will see each other."
"Selene’s reputation isn’t as it was before so I cannot have her around Fiona anymore. I always thought the one good thing in Selene’s life was you but she let you slip from her hands. My wife listens to me so they are no longer friends. I am more of a friend to you," said Oliver.
Gabriel found that to be funny since it was Selene who had been more of a friend to both Oliver and Fiona. He was the one who advised her to stop using her money to help the pair but they were turning against her.
Oliver thought over why he came to Gabriel. It was known that Gabriel would soon be awarded something by the king and Oliver was in need of money fast. "It’s wrong how she wants to paint you to the town but I can help you."
’I wasn’t aware Selene was going around speaking about me. Aside from her new husband, I thought she was silent. How do you plan to help me?" Gabriel said, a little interested in Oliver’s plans. fгeewebnovёl.com
"She came to speak to my wife. The one thing Selene can say to try to taint you is to speak of a mistress but what if someone were to confirm she had been seeing Lord Blackthorn all along?" Oliver asked.
Gabriel liked the sound of that. He would be considered the same as Selene so she couldn’t speak of how he betrayed her by bringing home Cassandra. "Did she tell that to your wife?"
"Yes. They were good friends so Selene could confide in Fiona about what she did. My wife would be more than happy to share it with others," Oliver confidently spoke.
Getting Fiona to lie wouldn’t be hard for Oliver when there would be money involved. He knew Fiona hated to do the tiresome work around the home and since Selene had a man like Xavier at her side, this matter would not affect her for long.
"It will only take some money to get her to speak but you should consider helping a friend who is in dire need of money. I have taken your side in this matter," Oliver said, hoping Gabriel would repay him for it.
Gabriel laughed since he didn’t need Oliver of all people to take sides. He considered Oliver to be Selene’s friend so he wasn’t important but what Oliver was offering made him a useful person for now.
"Since you’re offering something so big to help against what she will say, I will pay you. I shouldn’t be the only one said to have an affair when she enjoyed one. Before I give you any money, I need to see first that your wife’s friendship with Selene is over and she will speak. Get started on letting the truth out," Gabriel instructed Oliver.
Gabriel believed Selene told Fiona something but he didn’t believe an affair was brought up. Still, he would use it to his advantage to ruin Selene’s current happiness.
"Now?" Oliver replied. "Who am I to tell it to?"
Gabriel grabbed his drink and started to walk away. "Tell it to the vampires you knew were listening to our conversation. You should move fast since they are dying to know more about the affair."
