Chapter 103: Avoiding Her

Chris’s POV

After she was hired, I only heard good things about her. Everyone in the office complimented Mia on how organized and efficient she was, and how good she was at her job. Raisings, promotions, and securing her own office were all accomplished in a matter of months or weeks. The office was on the same floor as my office. It irritated me greatly. When I came across her, I did everything I could to avoid her. Most of the time, it worked.

I sat at my workstation till the wee hours of the morning trying to make sense of the numbers. When I checked the time, it was almost ten o’clock. I shifted my gaze to the outside. The metropolis below the window was illuminated at night with spectacular lights. Two specks of light from cars’ headlights were visible in the distance.

I rose to my feet, gathered my belongings, and then shut the door to my office. This floor had an office that had a light that had not yet been turned off. Someone else had to work overtime. When I approached Mia’s new office, I noticed that the light was still on.

This presented a challenge. Having a sexual connection with her was out of the question for me since I couldn’t afford it and I wasn’t sure if my self-control would hold up in the same way it had before. She wasn’t simply beautiful and appealing, but her success in the firm made her much more attractive. I snuck around the doorway, peering in.

It was a blessing that the office wasn’t occupied. Before she returns from wherever she was, the mayhem may be avoided if I moved quickly.

My heart sank as I heard someone else poop. Retching like this, which sounded like the model was coughing up a lung, was common among the models, although they never appeared to be sick in front of the camera. I made my way toward the bathroom. After a few minutes, Mia came, looking exhausted and pale. My heart pounded a little faster. I tried to trick myself into believing it was a pity, not love that motivated her actions. The time has come for it.

"What’s wrong?"

She made her way to her office, a feeble smile on her face as she went. Low-cut pencil skirts are appropriate for the office and modest enough for her, so she wore one. It made her seem stunning. It looked like she’d been kneeling on the ground for a while because the flesh around her knees was red from her exertion. I accompanied her to work. It was my duty to see to it that she was okay, regardless of how twisted my motives may have been. Only I had to be aware of what was happening. It wasn’t necessary for anyone to blame me for it because I already felt that way.

"Is there anything I can buy you? Is everything alright with you?"

When she got to her desk, she sat down with her hands on her face and wiped them clean. She raised her eyes to meet mine once more as if she were suffering from something more serious than simply a lack of sleep.

"No need to be concerned, Chris; I’m fine."

If a lady claimed to be in good health, I had learned from my divorce and previous relationships that she probably wasn’t. As soon as I had filled a paper cup with water for her, I turned around and exited the office. When I returned, I delivered it to her in person.

Her eyes were suspicious before she swallowed them. She took a sip of something.

"What’s the deal with your kind demeanor?"

Was this a hoax phone call or something more serious? My shoulders slumped as I exhaled a breath of relief. That’s all I want to know, "Is everything alright with you?" 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

She chuckled without a trace of emotion. "No idea why you did that, but thank you for your generosity."

I plopped down in the chair in front of the front desk.

It was you who said, "I shouldn’t be concerned about your well-being because of the things you did that I believe you should not have."

"Because I’m your friend’s small kid?" she answered with a smirk. I shook his head.

To put it another way, "I still care about you since you’re a human being and we had a sexual interaction, regardless of the circumstances."

She groaned, her lips quivering slightly. Tears welled up in her eyes.

That’s a mystery.

She shook her head and turned to face the desk, despite the fact that I was sure she wasn’t looking at anything because of her teary eyes.

I drew a big breath. "If that’s what you’re worried about, I won’t tell your father because I regard you as a person and because you’re Tommy’s daughter is an unfortunate coincidence."

She screamed, but in a low, fragile tone.

"Thank you, but I’m afraid you won’t be able to help me out with this."

After reading it, I was even more eager to lend a hand to her. A woman crying stirred the protective primeval male in me even more because she was a fragile and young woman, making the situation worse.

"If you’ll only give me a chance, maybe we can figure this out, and maybe it’s not that bad after all."

She took a deep breath.

"I’m hoping," he said.

There seemed to be no oxygen in the workplace, and I couldn’t even take a breath because of it. Her lips were sealed tight when she must have noticed the look on my face.

"You still feel it’s not as bad as you imagine?"

Unfortunately, my attempts to communicate were cut short when I couldn’t find the correct words.

"And just before you ask if I’ve been whoring around, I haven’t. It’s yours now. The fact that we worked together doesn’t make me a bad person, and I don’t expect you to either."

Instead of defending me, she said it in a defiant tone, as if defending herself was her primary goal with the air of someone persuaded themselves, In reality, I never once thought the baby belonged to someone else’s hapless scumbag. The fact that she was a virgin when I first met her was all I needed to know about her character.
