Billionaire's Unforgettable Ex-Wife-Chapter 909 - 569: Attorney Lian vs. Rosalind
When Owen Lennon came out of the courthouse, his face was as calm as ever. His assistant, little Ke, said with a grin, "Boss, congratulations, you’ve won again."
Owen said nothing, "To the club, right?"
Little Ke handed him a document, "I’m afraid you’ll need to go to the police station first. They called us, saying there’s something tricky for you to handle."
Owen frowned, "Did they say what it is?"
"They said it’s related to a case you took on, but nothing more."
Owen nodded, "Then you go back to the office. I’ll head to the police station. Let’s have a meeting in an hour."
"Got it," Little Ke left, and Owen drove straight to the Anchester Police Station. As soon as he entered, someone greeted him, "Attorney Lennon is here."
Owen smiled and nodded at the others, "What’s the important matter you called me over for today?"
"There’s been progress in the Delilah Weston murder case."
Owen crossed his arms, "What’s the situation?"
"A new problem has emerged. Delilah Weston took all the blame, but the serial killings haven’t stopped. This morning, the seventh female body was found. The method matches the murders in your previous cases."
Owen laughed, "That’s what I’ve been saying, this defendant definitely isn’t the killer."
"But this case still can’t be closed, it seems we’ll be busy again in the future."
Owen smirked, "Where’s the body? Let me have a look."
Although lawyers typically don’t have to be so hands-on, he was always meticulous, relentlessly searching for any evidence he could utilize.
The officer led him into the morgue. As soon as he entered, he saw two forensic doctors conducting an autopsy on a female corpse, and standing behind them was a woman in a police uniform.
The moment Owen and the woman met eyes, both of them noticeably hesitated.
The officer behind Owen said, "Attorney Owen, aren’t you going over?"
Owen looked at the woman, "Is she new to the station?"
The officer laughed, "This one’s not new at all. She’s the head of the task force sent from the province to assist in this case investigation."
Owen let out a cold laugh, and the female officer glanced at him, "Attorney London seems rather dismissive."
"How could I be? I’m just surprised to hear there’s a female head for the task force for the first time," he replied as he stepped forward to glance at the body, asking one of the forensic doctors, "What’s the result?"
"Based on the field investigation and the autopsy, this murder should be related to the previous serial killings, committed by the same assailant."
Owen nodded, "So, I see. Please give me a copy of your autopsy report later. I need to start preparing for court now."
"Understood, Attorney Lennon."
After speaking, Owen gave the female officer a look before turning to leave. Just as he reached the entrance of the police station, someone loudly called his name from behind, "Owen Lennon."
Upon hearing the voice, Owen paused, but did not turn around. 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
The other person quickly descended the steps to confront him, "Owen Lennon, is it amusing to pretend you don’t know me?"
Owen smirked, his eyes full of mischievous laughter, "Am I supposed to know you?"
"You’re still as immature as ever."
"And you’re still as unruly," he said before sidestepping her and getting in his car to leave swiftly.
After the car left the police station, he parked by the roadside, rolled down the window, and lit a cigarette.
He always made sure to clear away bad moods outside, never liking to mix personal feelings with work.
The woman just now was someone he indeed recognized. She was a junior apprentice he met while giving lectures at the Police Academy, her name was Rosalind, nine years younger than him.
He had always known this woman was extraordinary, and even admired her back then. Over time, as they interacted further, he came to understand her better.
Rosalind’s mother was murdered when she was three. The killer was only captured ten years later during a serial murder case investigation.
At the time, there were many rumors, saying her mother was killed because of an affair with another man. Her father silently endured much, and underwent numerous investigations.
Ultimately, he proved his innocence.
During those school years, others labeled her as the daughter of a murderer, saying her mother was killed by her father.
Some even called her mother shameless, and some dared to spread these rumors in front of her.
In those years, she was truly in pain and secretly vowed to become an outstanding police officer in her lifetime.
Not for any other reason but to seek justice for wronged victims.
As a fledgling police officer, she worked very hard and was determined. He appreciated her, and after knowing her for a year and a half, he pursued her for the first time.
Rosalind was straightforward, unpretentious.
At that time, he asked her, "Girl, do you want to be with me?"
She naturally nodded, "Sure, I don’t think any man would be better as a boyfriend than you, but aren’t you bothered by my background?"
Because of her honesty, he laughed. Bothered? He had always been in control of his own decisions.
His good friend Henry had always envied him for having uninvolved parents. He also believed that these life matters were his own, not up for others’ discussion.
No matter whether the woman he chose was good or bad, he would deal with the consequences himself.
They spent exactly 19 months together as a couple.
In hindsight, those 19 months brought about significant changes in Owen Lennon.
His first love in life, though it ended in failure.
His first time watching a movie with a woman, even though halfway through she ran off to catch a thief.
The first time he bought a necklace for a woman, yet she refused it, calling it too expensive, and returned it.
The first time he tolerated a woman’s reckless behavior in his space, turning it upside down, although she saw nothing wrong with it.
The first time he braved a downpour to deliver medicine, despite her insistence she could tough it out without it.
And the first time he realized a woman could be so strong, not needing him at all.
To him, she wasn’t just a woman, but an Invincible Iron King, indifferent to his affections, always leaving him to wonder what aside from solving cases could pique her interest.
Their breakup later was inevitable. When they arrived at their regular restaurant and she calmly said she wanted to break up, he realized these nineteen months had made him a fool.
