Birthing Legends: My Womb Creates SSS Monsters-Chapter 93: The Shellgrave’s Exit: Maddy Finally Sees the World!
Maddy’s children exchanged amused, slightly concerned looks, while Maddy continued bouncing on her heels, pointing at the ceiling and the walls, completely losing herself in her over the top excitement.
"I’ve made my decision... this will be our HOME! Yes, our very home! You don’t know how much I’ve always imagined living inside a turtle shell, like they carry it with them, and then can just retreat inside, hide, and be protected all day. Oh gosh, that thought always flashes to me whenever... whenever... my... husband beat me..."
Her excitement stumbled into an unintended memory. She shook her head vigorously, trying desperately to wipe it away, though the past clung stubbornly.
"But no! No dwelling on that now. The past is past and besides... I have a living family now—one that is happy, loyal, and terrifyingly strong.’
She turned back to them, her smile broadening until it felt like it could light the cavern better than her magic ever could.
"Everyone... we did it, Sephiran! Arach! Dyralfa! Frovian! We covered all of this cave... we can finally see the outside world."
Arach cracked a smile, his usual confident charm coming through.
"Finally. I’m quite interested in seeing a world that isn’t the inside of someone’s stomach or a damp stone tunnel."
"Me too!"
Sephiran practically vibrated with energy, his eyes wide and shimmering.
"Is that where the ’Big Blue Ceiling’ is?! What did you call it in the stories, Mother? The Sky? Is it really as big as you said?!"
"Yes, sweetie."
Maddy felt a lump of pure joy form in her throat.
"The sky. And it’s even bigger than the stories."
Dyralfa crossed her arms, a playful, competitive glint in her eyes.
"Just by the look on your face, Mother, I can tell the outside is going to be a challenge worth taking. I can’t wait to see what else is out there to hunt."
Frovian, however, adjusted his imaginary spectacles, his mind already spinning with variables.
"Hmm. I am more curious about these... ’human’ species. I look forward to analyzing if their logic is as flawed as the Lich’s."
Maddy gathered them close, squeezing as many hands and talons as she could reach.
"Then let’s move! Before another undead decides to crawl out of the dirt! Let’s go see what the world has in store for the Family of Shellgrave!"
The family moved as one toward the massive, arching exit at the far end of the ribcage. Maddy felt her breath hitch as she approached the threshold. In her mind, the "surface" of the world beyond Shellgrave was a desolate, burning wasteland.
"Even the sky... blood red, clouds like coagulated fire. Black jagged volcanoes. Rivers of acid. No matter. With my family, my children... I can face anything this hell throws at me."
She clenched her fists, her resolve solidifying. This place—hellish and merciless—mirrored the monsters they had just faced, matching the dire descriptions she had always read in the holy texts whenever the world felt too harsh. Yet now, with her family at her side, she felt unshakable.
She stepped through the final threshold, her eyes squeezed shut against the sudden, piercing glare.
Then, the wind hit her.
It wasn’t a sulfurous gale or a necrotic draft. It was cool. It smelled of damp earth, blooming flowers, and the sharp, clean scent of tress.
Maddy opened her eyes.
"Oh..."
Her knees buckled, and she sank into a bed of soft, emerald-green moss. Above her, the sky wasn’t red or purple—it was a deep, breathtaking azure, dotted with fluffy white clouds that drifted lazily in the breeze. The sun, a perfect golden orb, bathed the landscape in a warmth that felt like a physical hug.
Before her lay a vast, rolling valley of untouched wilderness. Massive trees with silver bark swayed in the wind, their leaves shimmering like jewels. A distant waterfall cascaded down a cliff, creating a rainbow that danced in the mist. There were no factories, no smog, no overpopulated cities... just the raw, breathtaking beauty of a world that breathed with its own ancient magic.
"It’s... it’s beautiful."
Maddy’s voice trembled, tears spilling down her cheeks. Her human heart, so long hardened by battles and grief, felt unbearably full.
"It’s not Hell... not what I imagined, not like the stories said. It’s... it’s like the Earth I remember... but even more alive."
She spread her hands over the soil, letting the earth, the grass, the subtle scents fill her senses. That familiar, grounding aroma...
"This feels like Earth... like home."
Sephiran knelt beside her, mimicking her gesture but a bit too eagerly, and a puff of soil went up his nose, making him sneeze. Dyralfa, still buzzing with leftover energy, bolted forward, letting out a gleeful roar as she leapt to grab a low branch, swinging through it like a jungle cat.
Arach and Sephiran followed, darting through the grass, their laughter ringing across the hills. Frovian, ever composed, watched the horizon, his amphibian skin glinting in the sunlight, a small, sly grin playing at his lips.
Maddy’s heart swelled as she gazed at the vibrant horizon—her children alive, laughing, moving freely in a world she had fought for and shaped.
"The hell I thought I was trapped in...? No. This is paradise."
Her thoughts drifted back to the dark days with her husband, to the oppressive, suffocating years she had spent in a cage of his making. He had demanded that she give him a child before she could step foot outside again before she could return to her career as a zoologist, the only thing that truly fulfilled her.
For Maddy, the outside was life—it was where she belonged, where she had always intended to live. The world beyond her prison had called to her every day. And now, finally, it was hers to explore with her children by her side, no chains, no cages, no one telling her she couldn’t be the mother and scientist she was meant to be. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
This new world, with all its wild possibilities, felt like the home she had always dreamed of.
