[BL]The Hero and his Party Won't Let Me Go-Chapter 104: Ch : Familiar Face- Part 1
"Prince Caelis seems to be in a good mood. But are you sure about keeping the...other kid around? Your own position is not really stable, and having that kid around could be troublesome."
Shuu knew that Princess Danielle meant well. She was only saying these words because she cared about his reputation as well as his mental wellness.
However, a small part of Shuu still felt a little muffled by her choice of words. Especially when it regarded a child.
"I will be fine. I am more worried about Rin at the moment. He’s too small and detached. He also hides every time someone unfamiliar comes into the room."
Rin was currently hiding below the bed because Princess Danielle was here, and Caelis had joined him to keep him company.
No amount of coaxing was going to bring the pair out at the moment, so Shuu had not even tried. Besides, if the kids were happy, then he was more than happy to let them be.
"Hmm, if you have no problem with this, then I guess I will step back for now as well. But do tell me if this becomes a problem. Don’t keep it to yourself and let me find out from someone else."
Shuu let out a nervous laugh at Princess Danielle’s words. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
The reason she was saying all this was his own fault. During the time when he had started to settle in the imperial palace (almost a year ago), people had not been happy. Especially the servants and the nobles who had served Lady Sera-they were especially hostile... but only in private.
That situation had lasted for two days before Kaiden found out and sorted it out. But it had become an issue for everyone when Shuu had not said a word.
But he had just not seen the point in doing that.
After all, he was not someone who was ever well liked by the masses, and he was used to it. Being liked had never mattered to him, especially as long as people did not do anything to harm him or his family.
Once that line was crossed, all bets would be off.
’Besides, it’s not like I am some damsel in distress. Just because I have not done anything till now does not mean I am incapable of taking revenge... probably...’
"Oh-! Look at the time. I should get going now. The next tea party is tomorrow, and I need to make some more adjustments to decorations and food. I will see you later, Shuu."
Princess Danielle bowed as she took her leave.
Now that Lady Sera was no longer present and Shuu was uninterested in hosting parties to gather nobles and talk to them, it had fallen to Lady Danielle to maintain the peace between the nobles. And it was a role she took very seriously.
...a little too seriously at times.
Still, Shuu would rather have her deal with all this than be forced to do actual work he had no training for. He would rather spend time with people who actually mattered to him... like his son.
"Shuu... join us. Rin... lonely..."
Caelis poked his head out from under the bed once he realized that his aunt was gone. His golden eyes looked at Shuu with certainty, and his small hands tugged at Shuu’s pants.
The small grip was a little too strong for Shuu’s liking, and he stumbled before he caught himself.
"Alright, I am coming. There is no need to tug at me like this..."
Shuu complained as he kneeled down in front of the bed. Caelis gave him a strained glance before he crawled back under the bed where Rin was.
"Hurry..."
The child spoke with certainty, and even Rin was looking at him with curious eyes.
Shuu tried to force himself into that space, and he barely fit. But it was uncomfortable for him, and the kids noticed this.
"O-Outside?"
Rin asked, his soft eyes noticing Shuu’s discomfort. Despite the fact that he was the one who wanted to stay inside the most, he was the one who crawled out first and held his hand out for the others to take.
Caelis pouted but came out as well, and Shuu tried to get out, only to struggle a little.
"Shuu... stuck? Get help...?"
Caelis asked immediately, and Shuu felt his face flame.
"No, wait-! There is no need to do that. I am fine. Just give me a few seconds..."
Shuu assured the kids as he crawled out of the cramped space he had found himself under. He let out a relieved sigh as he made it out, and the kids looked surprised.
"I think this is enough staying inside for today. Should we go out to the garden?"
Shuu asked, and the kids nodded before they tugged him toward the garden.
It was calm outside, and the servants who noticed Shuu immediately changed their direction and headed away. They were clearly not comfortable with his presence, but he already knew that.
However, seeing Rin cower at the servants’ gazes was not something Shuu liked to see.
"Garden?"
Caelis tugged Shuu and Rin, and they followed. It was all calm and quiet, and-
"Liam-!"
Caelis suddenly exclaimed, and Shuu looked in the direction he was pointing as well.
His eyes fell on Liam, but he was not alone. He had a female beside him whom he seemed to be escorting.
’That looks like a meeting to get to know each other. I don’t think we should interfere in this...’
Shuu carefully tugged the kids toward the other side so that they wouldn’t disturb Liam and his partner. But he had only just grabbed the kids when he suddenly felt someone looking at him from Liam’s direction.
The lady beside Liam was looking at him and the kids with a blank expression on her face, and Shuu suddenly paused.
’That face... have I seen that face before?’
He suddenly felt that he had. But his brain could not recall where he had seen it before.
The lady beside Liam suddenly stood up and started walking toward him with that same blank expression, and Shuu felt even more unnerved by her approach.
