Lunch ended normally, but Shuu kept his guard up. He kept an eye on both Lady Elysia and Lady Canarie, so he noticed how both Rin and Caelis looked uncomfortable with the new addition.

Still, they endured lunch and dinner, but the problem came the next morning when Caelis refused to go to the dining room.

"Caelis, we need to get going. See, Rin is ready already."

Shuu gestured toward Rin, who stood still and looked at Caelis with innocent eyes. And usually, it worked just fine.

But today, Caelis had no intention of backing down.

"No. I won’t-! Don’t wanna-! Don’t like outsiders..."

Caelis was being unnecessarily difficult, but Shuu knew that leaving him alone was also not a choice. So he decided to settle down in the room for now.

"Alright, we will stay here. I will ask the maids to give us food here. Is that fine?"

Shuu asked as he took his seat.

Caelis gave him a small nod of satisfaction before he dragged both Rin and Shuu to sit with him.

"Yes-! Food here-!"

The kid agreed as he sat down. Shuu sighed and quickly went to the door to make that order before he settled down with the kids.

He knew that there would be a lot of gossip about him missing breakfast, but frankly, he did not care.

As long as the kids were happy and he was not breaking any law (not that he cared), he was satisfied and ready to do anything.

The maid came back with the food quickly, but Shuu could not help but feel like there was something missing... or maybe it was his imagination...?

"Would you like anything else?"

The maid asked in a polite voice, but there was a hint of disappointment in it as well. Her gaze made Shuu feel a little weird, so he quickly took a step back and decided that he did not want to deal with her anymore.

"No, it’s fine. You can leave now. I will call for you if I need anything else."

He told the maid, and she bowed before she left. It made Shuu sigh in relief, and he went back to the kids who were enjoying their meal.

Soon, his room was filled with laughter and him trying to stop the kids but failing.

But the same happy air was not present around the dining hall. In fact, that place looked like it was about to freeze over.

’Am I the first to arrive once more? I need to choose my place carefully so that I catch Prince Kaiden’s attention. He is currently just trying hard to get, but I am sure I can make him fall for me.’

Lady Elysia nodded to herself as she walked around the table. She waited for the others to arrive, and as expected, the next person to come was Lady Canarie.

They both exchanged a tense look before they took seats at the opposite sides of the table. It was their way to see which one of them the Emperor preferred more.

Prince Yunn and Princess Danielle came in next, and Princess Danielle immediately headed toward her cousin to sit down beside her.

’These two are plotting against me... the Emperor would obviously follow his brother to sit beside. Is it too late to change seats now?’

Lady Elysia wondered before she decided to be firm and keep her position. There was a slight chance that the Emperor would come to her because she was sitting all alone. She could use it to her advantage.

A few more minutes passed, but the Emperor did not come. Prince Yunn clapped his hands, and the maids quickly plated food on the table.

He took the first bite and gestured for others to start as well.

"E-Excuse me, but should we not wait for Emperor Kaiden to come and eat with us first?"

Lady Canarie asked in a worried voice, only for Prince Yunn to scoff.

"Brother will be having dinner in his office. He said that he has no time to come here and eat. So we can all begin without him."

A tense silence fell around the dining room as everyone digested Prince Yunn’s words.

A quick look around told them that Emperor Kaiden had likely not come because Shuu was not here. They both had skipped breakfast.

"I-I see... Then, should I go and bring a small snack to him later? He might get hungry."

Lady Canarie asked, and Lady Elysia felt angry that she was stealing her idea. She had wanted to do this and earn some recognition from Emperor Kaiden...

But Prince Yunn immediately shot their idea down.

"It would... not be the best decision to visit my brother today. There is an important meeting, and disturbing him might do more harm than good."

Lady Canarie nodded in understanding, but Lady Elysia just scoffed at those words.

’An important meeting? This is the best time for me to probe my worth. I will show Emperor Kaiden just how useful I am, and once he realizes this, he will fall for me as well.’

Breakfast ended, and the two chosen companions began to make plans, not being aware that Emperor Kaiden had plans of his own as well.

Once breakfast ended, the maids quickly picked up the plates and took them away from Shuu’s room. But the looks they were giving him made him feel like he had done something wrong to them.

He remained tense until the only people left in the room were him and the kids. And only then did he let out a relieved sigh.

"Shuu, play-!"

"P-Play-!"

Both Rin and Caelis tugged at him and asked him to play, and Shuu decided to indulge them.

"Alright, we can play. What do you want to play?"

Shuu asked the pair, and they looked at each other before they spoke as one.

"Go out-!"

"Wanna go out-!"

The pair seemed excited, and Shuu had no heart to tell them that it was too dangerous. So despite knowing that it was not a good idea, he decided to take the kids out.
