Blood Nemesis-Chapter 163: Chew 3
Chapter 163: Chew 3
After Oliver’s death, his consciousness drifted into eternal darkness.
Death was always a weird experience for him. Even after coming to this dimension of darkness many times, he was not used to its eerie familiarity.
’The Red Sun is still shining as usual.’
Oliver gazed at the huge red sun shining near him.
The Red Sun marks the point where he died. It existed like a guiding light, warning him not to return to the same place that killed him.
It was his only companion in the lonely darkness.
’I need to leave.’
Oliver muttered and turned away from the Red Sun.
The companion of his could kill him if he went closer. So, he had to leave quickly.
Focusing on his formless body, he immediately weaved through the invisible currents in the dark space to find his blood markers.
He had previously placed these markers to make navigation to his revive spot easier.
Resisting the flow of the invisible space currents around him, he rose and flew up.
Technically, there was no up or down in this world. He decided which direction was up based on the spin of the Red Sun and his experience in navigating space.
Thereafter, he squinted his eyes and focused on the space around him, searching for the blood makers.
From a greater height, he could see the red blobs of blood floating in the space, illuminated by the Red Sun.
The blobs of blood were arranged like a constellation, with distinct arrows pointing to the area where he should go to complete his revival.
From the ’UP’ position, he clearly saw the markers and flew towards them.
Even though Oliver was used to moving through the invisible currents of the empty space, it was still not an easy feat. The current twisted and turned on a whim.
By nature, it was unpredictable.
Oliver had to feel the flow pushing against his body to find the pockets of least resistance to move forward.
Like that, he blindly followed the arrow constellations, towards the revive spot he had prepared.
The distance covered in empty space was one-to-one similar to the space outside. So, his soul was travelling a great distance.
The only caveat was his slow speed.
Moving through the current strained his mind.
It was exhausting.
If he stops for a long time, he will be pushed aside by the invisible current.
Oliver had to be always on his toes and vigilant.
And as a result, he had to move slowly and carefully.
This time, the revival spot he chose was a tree about thirty kilometers away. It is situated in the same direction as the gate.
If he could reach the tree and revive, travelling another couple of dozen kilometers, he could safely reach the gate and return home.
’I will remember this, Demon.’ He silently said and continued to move.
If possible, he wanted to know what happened to the demon he had poisoned.
He was sure that the creature would not die.
If it were just a monster, his poison cocktail, made using the recipe his dear friend Tox provided him in his past life, would have taken its life.
But it was an S-rank demon driving the body of a monster.
There was no way in hell a poison he cooked up could kill it.
Still, he was sure the demon would be immobilised for a few hours. That gave him plenty of time to escape after reviving, even if the demon came searching for him.
’That’s why they say you have to chew before you eat.’ Oliver giggled.
The demon had fallen into his trap without him doing anything.
He was pleasantly surprised by the demon’s decision to eat him.
’I made the bomb poison for the Leviathan. It was painful being eaten alive by that damned sea serpent.. So, I wanted revenge and kept it as a backup option. Who knew it would be used today?’ Oliver mused, thinking about his past.
He was the kind to have backups for backup. Hence, it was not to anyone’s wonder that he had hidden cards up his sleeve.
’Anyway, the damned demon won’t be able to move for a while. I have plenty of time to escape.’
’Once I am back home, I should prepare another poison bomb for the Leviathan.’ Oliver decided.
Among the top ten worst deaths of his, the one in which he was eaten alive by the Leviathan was ranked #5. Just below ’dying by falling into molten metal’.
He still remembers the pain of stomach acid tearing through his tissues.
A chill went down Oliver’s spine thinking about it.
The stomach acid of the Leviathan was a hundred times worse than that of the demon he had just encountered.
Not all S rankers were made equal.
Even though the demon was an S-ranked monster, it paled in comparison to the Levaithan in strength or ability.
Similarly, it was not even strong enough to threaten the Mountain King, the undying snake that was coiled around a mountain near the Dragon City.
S-rank was something loosely defined because of the limits of mana measurement devices of this world. Therefore, there existed monsters with unpredictable levels of strength in this rank.
Leviathan was one such monster.
In the future, it will come out of the gates in the oceans near the Continental Republic and wreak havoc. Possibly, crippling the military of the Republic.
One of the reasons the West (Continental Republic) fell to demons was the destruction caused by Leviathan.
Therefore, it was in Oliver’s best interest to always be prepared to deal with the monster.
The poison he had on his body was a weaker version of the poison Tox, designed to knock out the Leviathan.
In the future, using better ingredients, he had to make the original version.
Once strong enough to kill S-rankers.
’Know your strengths and weaknesses.’
’Don’t be kind to your enemies.’
’Anything is fair in Love and War.’
’This is the war.’ ƒгeewёbnovel.com
Oliver thought about many things and consolidated his plans as he floated towards the Revive spot.
—
On Crab Island.
The demon cut out its gut and threw away everything that came in contact with the poison.
Finally, it could breathe properly.
Despite missing half its internal organs, the demon let out a relieved sigh.
The poison was worse than it had expected.
After disrupting the mana, it began to absorb the disrupted mana to attack its body.
Soon, its body was thrown into a destructive cycle that decreased its chance of living the longer it fought with it.
If it hadn’t been decisive in cutting off its organs and throwing them away, it would not have made it through.
The demon’s heart thumped at the realisation.
’The human was viscous. He used his death to retaliate against me.’
It thought while pushing its body to the limits, trying to heal the injuries.
As the injuries healed, its mind finally drifted into the real reason for their conflict—the Void Weaver.
’The Key!’
It widened its eyes.
’How could I have forgotten about it?’
In its desperation to save its life, the demon momentarily forgot about the key.
’Did I get it?’
The demon closed its eyes immediately and channelled the mana into its brain.
The key should have left a mark right under its forehead, near the brain.
Carefully probing the area with mana will allow it to sense the Key.
’It’s not here!’
The demon exclaimed.
’Why?’
The giant beady eyes of it gazed at the heap of intestines covered in poison.
’I ate it.’
’The human died inside me.’
’I should have been the closest entity to the key when the human died inside me. So, by default, the key should have transferred to me.’
Its memory of the workings of the key was vague. But it still knew enough to predict that the key would transfer to the nearest creature once the host of the key dies.
’Where is it?’
Not seeing the key, the demon panicked.
’Did I throw it out along with the...’
Its eyes lingered on the poisoned intestine.
Did it throw out the baby along with the bath water, it wondered exasperated.
’If so...’
Its beady eyes rolled to look at the monsters lying nearby.
Because of the S-rank aura it exuded, no other creature came near it.
...Other than the monster it controlled.
’Did it transfer into their body?’
The demon’s eyes turned sharp.
The piercing look it gave made the monsters tremble. They shrank their neck and bowed down instinctively.
But the demon was not satisfied with that.
It released a mental command through a mana wave. Immediately, the eyes of the monsters glossed over.
They walked towards the demon in sync.
The demon extended its palm and grabbed an A-ranked monster by the neck.
Exerting a little bit of force, it snapped the neck and killed the monster. As the body of the monster tried to heal the injury, the demon pulled it up and brought the monster’s head to its mouth.
*Crunch*
The sound of a skull snapping in half resounded.
It bit into the head and ripped it away, slowly chewing harder.
Fortunately, it learned the lesson to chew its food before eating.
’Tastes horrible.’
The demon complained under its breath and continued to eat the monster.
The intestine and stomach were growing back.
Despite tasting like shit, the monster meat was the best tonic it could have in the situation. Simultaneously, the secondary purpose of finding whether the Key had jumped into the monster’s bodies could also be fulfilled through this method.
It was a two-in-one solution.
