Chapter 164: What did he do this time?

The demon took almost two hours to heal and consume all the monsters.

Once he gulped down the last piece, it opened its eyes in fury.

Despite its injuries healing, the demon was not satisfied with the outcome.

’Where is the key?’

’Did the human really lie? Even when he was at death’s door!’

The demon couldn’t believe it.

’Deceptive until death.’

The demon slammed its huge fist into the ground. The entire island quaked in response.

’Everything fell apart the moment I met the damned human...’

The fury of the demon did not decrease one bit.

It wanted to let out its anger and kill Oliver again. But from its perspective, Oliver, the human, was no more.

He died in its stomach.

’The pesky human tricked me.’

*ROAR*

The demon sat up and slammed his fist against the ground again. This time, it didn’t stop with one.

*THUMP*

*THUMP*

*THUMP*

A cloud of dust and debris flew into the air as it made a giant crater where it stood.

The mana beast on the island quietly crawled back to their hole, sensing the terrifying aura of the S-ranked demon.

The demon calmed down after venting its anger on the island.

It crouched down, exhausted and began to ponder what should be done.

When it ate Oliver, it was sure Oliver had the Key in him. That’s why it took the risk of immediately eating him.

But contrary to all expectations, everything Oliver said was a lie. So, it had to think about the events in sequence.

’The human said he ate the Void Weaver, thinking it was a normal mana beast.’

’That is most likely a lie.’

’He didn’t eat the Void Weaver. But he for sure had seen it.’

’After being injured by my attack, the Void Weaver fled to this island and most likely fell into his hands.’

’Even then, why did he save it? No human should have information about the Void Weaver or the temple.’

’Would humans save a mana beast without any reason?’

It couldn’t understand Oliver’s purpose in doing all that.

Everyone fears death.

Even the demons do.

So, why would Oliver, a human, die trying to save the life of an unfamiliar beast?

’...unless they are familiar.... or... knew about the Void Temple’s secret.’

That was the only conclusion it could reach from the information it had. It didn’t even think for a second that Oliver was being kind.

After all, demons were unfamiliar with the word ’Kind’.

To the demons who do anything to achieve their goal, even killing their own or sacrificing their young, the concept of kindness was far too foreign.

It was a blind spot all demons had.

So, the demon presumed that Oliver did everything with proper reasons in mind.

It was half true.

Oliver did have a reason to save the little Koi.

But that was not enough to make him go through the pain of death again.

Oliver’s decision to end the creature that injured the little Koi was purely emotional. He never thought he would be entangled in the scheme of a demon when he decided that.

’Even if the human decided to save the Void Weaver, how did he do it?’

Suddenly, while thinking about that, a piece of information it overlooked came to its mind.

’Where is the vehicle of the human?’

It opened its eyes wide and searched.

However, there was nothing nearby that resembled a vehicle.

Other than a broken camp made of a plastic sheet, there was no vehicle at all.

’All humans use vehicles, mostly flying ones when they have to travel long distances.’

’This island is far from the temple island.’

The temple island was where the permanent gate was. The crab island was almost seventy kilometres away from the human city.

So, the demon realised Oliver must have used some kind of vehicle to come here.

Despite that, there was no vehicle in sight.

’He most likely had an ally. They must have taken the Void Weaver and escaped. The human was a trap they left behind to kill me. Do they know about me?’

The more it thought, the crazier the stories it made up to hide its embarrassment that a puny had injured it.

At the same time, it realised that all hope of finding Void Weaver had disappeared. With the humans in play, it would not be easy to find it again.

"AH!!!!"

It looked at the sky, frustrated.

Its large brows folded together into a frown as it roared at the sky.

After resting for a few more hours, the demon walked back into the lake and disappeared from the island. Creating large waves, it swam away.

A few hours ago, Oliver revived in a tree far away.

The tree was living, and yet, it had a hollow area within. frёewebnoѵel.ƈo๓

Oliver had placed a bottle of his blood and necessary items inside the hole and sealed it a few days ago.

With mana added to the blood, it remained fresh, allowing him to effortlessly use it to recreate his body.

Once his body was formed inside the hollow tree, he picked up the backpack placed nearby and took out the important items.

The most important item was high-quality underwear he paid a premium for.

He quickly cleaned himself with a towel and put on his underwear. Finally, he could relax knowing his balls were not hanging nude.

After that, he activated the lights on the communications device and put on the rest of his clothes.

"Fortunately, I was prepared."

Oliver muttered, knocking down the seal he placed on the entrance to the tree hole.

Bright rays dashed past him, instantly lighting up the entire tree hole.

"Never thought I would meet a damned S-rank demon in this place."

He grabbed his outgrown hair and messily cut it down.

Often, when he was reviving, his hair grew longer than he liked and would have to be trimmed down.

Once that was finished, he picked up the communication device and dialled a familiar number.

"Beep...Beep...Hello?" The person on the other side answered.

"Hm?" Oliver didn’t expect a lady to answer the phone. But he immediately realised who it was. "Achara? I thought this was the number of the grumpy old man." Oliver paused for a second, then he continued. "Where is he?" He asked directly.

"He is in a meet..."

Achara wanted to say he was in a meeting but suddenly paused.

Wouldn’t answering like that confirm her boss was a grumpy old man?

She glanced to her side.

Currently, Thunder Emperor (Not So Grumpy Old Man) was in a meeting. She was standing right behind him but had stepped back to take the call.

When she looked at him, Thunder Emperor gave her a questioning look.

"It’s Oliver." She replied.

Everyone in the conference room knew who Oliver was. She didn’t have to hide.

"Yes, I am Oliver," Oliver muttered from the other side of the phone, hearing her.

"What did he do this time?" Thunder Emperor sighed.

"I don’t know. May I step out for a moment to ask him that?" Achara asked.

Although everyone knew each other, she couldn’t predict what Oliver might say. So, she decided to play it safe and asked to leave the room.

"Okay."

Thunder Emperor nodded.

He was not grumpy at all.

"Does he have any new opinion about the contract?" One of the other people sitting around the table asked.

It was none other than Sathyamoorthi, Root’s father.

"He shouldn’t..." Thunder Emperor said and went back to reading the large document placed before him.

Currently, lawyers from the side of Sathyamoorthi and Thunder Emperor were going through the document, each marking important parts for further negotiation.

This time, Thunder Emperor was representing the military to negotiate the terms of using World Net as their secondary communications channel.

World Net was the name given to the startup founded by Sathyamoorthi.

The QCM resynchronisation technology was tested a few weeks ago and was about to be used for military communication.

In exchange for their service, Sathyamoorthi was asking the military to provide them with expired QCMs.

What should happen in this meeting was dictated by Oliver a month ago and was agreed upon by all.

This time, Thunder Emperor was representing the military to finalise the contract.

While Achara went out, they continued to read the contract.

Outside the conference hall, Achara lifted the phone to her ear and said,

"We are currently in a meeting finalising the use of WorldNet for military communication."

Oliver instantly understood the situation.

"Is Sathyamoorthi there?"

"Yes."

’Fortunately, Achara tactfully stepped outside the room.’ Oliver thought.

"Can I ask why you called?"

"Hm, there was a situation," Oliver replied.

"What kind of situation?"

An ominous feeling washed over Achara.

’What did he do this time?’

Thunder Emperor’s words rang inside her head.

"Ahm..." Oliver coughed. "I met a pesky S-ranked demon."

’I knew it, I friggin knew it...’ Achara could feel the terrible news coming from a mile away.

"You are alive, and you seem to be in a situation to joke around. So, this is not a spectre I am talking to, right?"

"That’s correct. But my situation is not that great. You need to send someone to get me."

"Before that, can you tell me how you met the demon and who it is?"

"It was not a person. The demon is in control of a monster. I met it on an island called Crab Island in Infinity Lake. Fortunately, Sathyamoorthi’s son, my pet fish and the Phantom Nemesis are all okay. They fled early, so they were able to escape." Oliver suddenly paused, "Don’t speak about this to Sathyamoorthi." He added.

"Okay."

While talking with Oliver, Achara took out her phone and messaged some of her friends from Titanfall to ask if they could bring Oliver back in one piece.
