Blood Nemesis-Chapter 175: Awesome
Chapter 175: Awesome
After leaving the army camp, instead of returning home, Oliver carried little Koi and went to Root’s house.
The public transport bus he was sitting on braked occasionally, forcing him to hold the fish bowl tightly.
The water splashed and churned inside.
Little Koi enjoyed the ride, occasionally moving around to either side, glancing at the skyscrapers seen all around. It quietly absorbed the information about human society as it travelled through the city.
A couple of minutes later, Oliver reached Root’s house. Because of the residential area where Root lived being near the city centre, he was able to reach his destination quickly.
Once the bus stopped, Oliver hugged the large fish bowl and carried a plastic bag before exiting.
The plastic bag contained some large chunks of Flood Dragon meat. It was brought along to feed the little Koi.
"Hm... This place is quiet and well-maintained. The roads look neat. There are street lights at every corner. And..."
Oliver’s eyes moved to a sign showing ’For Sale’ written in bold, red letters.
The sign was hung on a five-story building.
"...There is a building for sale."
"Should I buy it?"
There was no price on the sign.
Well, no one in their right mind would sell a building like a convenience store item.
Instead of price, the sign had the contact information of the seller.
’From the looks of it, the ground floor was a cafe.’
Oliver looked around.
There were other businesses like restaurants, convenience stores and electronic shops nearby.
So, the building was in a prime location. Owning it wouldn’t be a loss.
’The fact that no one has bought it yet means that it is being sold for a high price or there is something wrong with it.’
’I need to check it out myself before deciding.’
Oliver said to himself and noted down the phone number before briskly walking to his destination. In the way, he also bought a small tub of ice cream.
A few seconds later, he reached Root’s house.
He walked up to the door and pressed the bell.
Immediately, a sound rang inside the living room.
A few seconds later, the door opened from the inside.
It was Root’s sister.
Behind her, he could see Root’s niece peeking out of her shadow.
Even now, the mutt and the munchkin were together. And they both seemed to have grown a little bit.
"Hello." Oliver smiled and said.
"Oh! You again." Root’s sister instantly recognised him.
"Yes. Is Ajay here?"
"This time, you are here for my brother? Anyways, come in."
Oliver was welcomed inside.
The sister was kind and nice. She quickly moved forward to help Oliver carry the plastic bag.
However, Oliver quickly shook his head.
"No, that’s heavy. But can you help me carry the fish bowl?" He asked.
"Okay."
Root’s sister, Arya, smiled and nodded.
The little koi danced around the bowl for a second as it saw itself being handed over to someone else. It was prepared to escape if the need arose.
However, nothing it expected happened. After taking the bowl, Arya walked briskly to a table and placed it.
"There you go." She said.
"Mommy, is that a little fishy?" Root’s niece followed her and asked.
"Yes."
"Why did the SD-800 uncle bring a fish? It looks cute. Does he want to eat it?" She widened her eyes in shock as she gazed past her mother and at Oliver.
Oliver smiled wryly.
"No, not to eat." Immediately, he denied the accusation.
"SD-800, what’s that?" Arya asked her daughter.
"It means Snack Devourer 800. That day, I jokingly introduced myself like that. Who thought she would remember it? Ha ha."
Oliver laughed and placed the plastic bag containing dragon meat on the table.
Although it didn’t look like it, the meat weighed about twenty kilograms. It flopped onto the table as Oliver relaxed his hand.
Meanwhile, Amy, the niece, hopped forward and pointed her finger at Oliver, "SD-800 means Snack Destroyer 800. Not Devourer. You said it means you can eat and destroy every snack. You also said no snack can hide from you." She said and squinted her eyes with doubt.
"Are you an impostor. Mommy, this man is an impostor." She asked and stood in front of her mother.
’The little devil remembered everything, to the minute details.’
’As expected of this family’s child.’
’She is a little genius.’
Oliver didn’t know how to reply. He smiled wryly, again.
With a quick swipe, he took out the tub of ice cream he brought from the plastic bag and placed it on the table.
"How about I show you who I am?" Oliver asked and tapped the tub of ice cream. "We can decide once and for all if I am an impostor by challenging you to an ice cream eating match. If I win, I am SD-800. If I didn’t, I am an impostor."
Oliver put forward the idea arrogantly and raised his brow.
"Deal."
Amy’s reply was instantaneous. She didn’t think of anything except the fact that she could eat a lot of ice cream if she accepted the challenge before answering.
It didn’t matter if she won or lost; either way, it was going to be a great time.
She rubbed her tummy and glued her eyes to the ice cream box.
Seeing that, Arya chuckled and went inside to call Root.
—
A few minutes later, Arya, Amy, Ajay and Oliver sat on the sofa watching TV.
In their hands, they had bowls of ice cream.
Oliver’s bowl was already empty.
Amy, sitting in front of him, sighed, dejected.
She realised she had lost.
"You are SD-800. I give up." She said and began to slowly savour the ice cream.
"It’s good that you know when to give up." Oliver nodded, accepting her surrender.
"I can eat ten more bowls if I want." He added and placed the empty bowl on the tea table nearby.
"Hm..." Army hummed in agreement and returned to eating the ice cream.
"What is going on?" Root asked.
Ajay, otherwise known as Root, was the last to arrive. He didn’t know what happened a few seconds ago or about the ice cream eating competition. fгeewёbnoѵel_cσm
"Hm...Nothing." Arya smiled and replied.
"Okay..." Root answered and glanced over to Oliver. "Boss, why did you come here today?"
"Oh! I want you to take care of little Koi." Oliver replied, leaning back on the sofa.
"Me?"
"Yes. For now."
"Why?"
"Because I know you will do a good job."
"Huh!"
"Use your technical knowledge to make a system to monitor and protect it. Hm...Also, make an automatic feeder. I brought some dragon meat for you. When you have time, come and get more. I will put it inside a freezer somewhere. While you are it, also check the information on the people I asked you to find."
"I thought you wanted me to relax for a few days and study for the entrance exam," Root said.
"I thought you knew everything you needed to know."
"..."
Root couldn’t argue against that.
The syllabus for the entrance exam was too easy for him. The written test for the Hero Academy could easily be passed by almost everyone.
From looking at the history of the entrance exam and all previous question papers, he was sure he could get a top score.
So, he was not concerned about passing the exam at all.
"What exam are we talking about?" Arya asked.
She was interested in their conversation.
"Hero Academy entrance exam," Oliver replied.
Arya turned to the side and looked at her brother.
With a frown, she asked.
"Are you sure? It hasn’t even been a month since you awakened your ability. If you want to go to the Hero Academy, you can try it next year, right?"
She was concerned.
Root didn’t train for much after awakening. The chances of him passing the practical test seemed impossible if he went there as is, she thought.
The practical test was known to be difficult and dangerous. She didn’t want her brother to jump into it without having the ability to protect himself.
"Sister, I trained with him for the past few weeks. Don’t worry." Root saw her concern and said.
"Uncle, you are going to become a hero!" The munchkin raised her head up from the bowl and asked.
Amy had tiny bits of ice cream sticking to her face that made her look silly and cute.
Arya wiped her face.
Meanwhile, Amy pulled her face back and asked Root,
"Brother, if you become a hero, can you get me an autograph of Golden Fiend? The Hero I saw on TV."
With great expectation, she glanced at her uncle.
Root tilted his head towards Oliver in confusion.
"Golden fiend?" He asked his niece if she meant what she said.
"Hmm." Amy nodded, her head bouncing up and down like a doll.
"Why? You like Golden Fiend?"
"Hmm." She nodded again.
Immediately, two pairs of eyes fell on Oliver’s body. Both showed unhidden hostility.
Oliver tilted his head to the side to avoid their gaze.
’Hey, I have nothing to do with this.’ He said in his mind.
Root swallowed the sour feeling that welled up and asked.
"Amy, why do you like Golden Fiend?"
"Because he is awesome. I heard they say he is just as old as you, Uncle. But he is far more awesome."
Amy giggled and explained.
A dark shadow immediately covered Root’s face.
Oliver almost chuckled.
Fortunately, none of them wanted to reveal his identity. So, they stayed silent and heard Amy cheer and worship Golden Fiend.
