Part 22: The Kaminari Confession
The warehouse was eerily silent now, except for the groans of the Kaminari-kai members sprawled across the floor. Leo rolled his baton between his fingers, stepping over an unconscious thug as he locked eyes with the last man standing a trembling guy with a split lip and a bad haircut.

"So," Leo said, smirking. "Who wants to explain why you thought it was a good idea to mess with us?"
The man swallowed hard, eyes darting between Leo, Dante, and Hiroshi. He looked ready to bolt-until Marco casually kicked a broken chair leg in his direction, making it clear that running wasn't an option.
Dante sighed dramatically. "Why do they always wait until we start breaking bones before they talk?"
"Because they think they have a choice," Hiroshi murmured.
Leo crouched in front of the Kaminari thug, tilting his head. "You do have a choice, you know. Either you tell me what I want to know..." His voice dropped to a whisper. "Or I let Marco get creative."
The thug flinched, looking at Marco, who was grinning in a way that suggested he very much enjoyed getting creative.
"A-Alright, alright!" the guy blurted. "We didn't attack you for us! We were hired!"
Leo's smirk faltered. "Hired? By who?"
The thug hesitated-so Hiroshi took a single step forward. That was all it took. The man paled.
"I-I don't know his real name! We just called him... The Broker."
The room tensed.
Dante rubbed his temples. "That guy again? Seriously?"
Leo frowned. "You know him?"
Hiroshi exhaled slowly. "Everyone in the underground knows The Broker. He's not part of any gang, but he plays all sides. He sells information, weapons, alliances-whatever makes him the most money. If he's involved..." Hiroshi glanced at Dante. "This is bigger than just Kaminari-kai causing trouble."
Leo tapped his baton against his leg. "Why would The Broker want to target Tensai-kai?"
The Kaminari thug licked his lips nervously. "He didn't say. Just that if we took out your warehouse, we'd be paid double if we made sure Leo was."
The man cut himself off.
Leo's eyes narrowed. "If I was what?"
The thug looked like he wanted to swallow his tongue.
Marco cracked his knuckles. "Buddy, I really hope you finish that sentence."
The thug squeezed his eyes shut. "If you were dead."
A heavy silence fell over the room.
Leo stared at him. His heart thudded in his chest, but outwardly, he forced himself to smirk. "Oh," he said lightly. "So now I have hitmen after me. Great. Just what I needed to spice up my week."
Dante crossed his arms. "You piss off a lot of people, Leo, but a price on your head? That's next level."
Hiroshi nodded. "The Broker doesn't deal in petty grudges. If someone paid for your death, it means you're standing in their way. The question is... who?"
Leo exhaled through his nose, forcing himself to stay calm. "Well, looks like we're about to find out."
Dante patted him on the back. "Hey, on the bright side, at least someone thinks you're important enough to kill."
Marco grinned. "Yeah, and now we get to return the favor."
Leo rolled his eyes, but he couldn't deny it something much bigger was in motion now. And he was right at the center of it.
