Chapter 246: Laughing?

The words she had just uttered hung in the air.

What had she called him again, she hadn’t called him anything bad had she?

Oh heavens! She had called him names.

Snobby!

Grumpy.

Self important and arrogant.

How was she going to get away from this one? She could already picture his infuriated expression even without turning around to look.

All the maids signalled one another, shuffling backwards through the service entrance of the kitchen and disappearing one after another without making a sound, they made a clean escape.

Anne could only watch helplessly as they abandoned her alone in the kitchen.

What happened to Emma and Katie who were supposed to stall him to not come downstairs yet?

So unreliable!

All the staff could only sigh in relief when they had managed to escape from the kitchen.

The husband and wife were closer, surely the master wouldn’t murder his wife...but them, it was hard to guarantee they could continue living after the way they had been laughing while Anne made impressions of him.

Anne was surrounded by a cold silence, it was almost as if there was currently no one in the kitchen with her but his presence behind her was unmistakable.

Slowly, with dread in her mind she turned around, her eyes widened and her heart thudded as she met his impassively expressionless face.

She suddenly took two steps backwards putting some more distance between them because she imagined him chocking her to death right now for everything she had said.

She stared long and hard at his face and just at the moment she saw his mouth move she quickly blurted.

"I didn’t say any of that on purpose."

His vacant eyes suddenly seemed to have regained focus and his dark eyes settled onto her light brown eyes.

His mouth moved again as if he was going to say something else but Anne couldn’t bear to hear his angry tone so she quickly said,

"Before you get angry just know that I came in here because I was making something for you."

He tilted his head to the side and she could see the curiosity in his eyes, but as his mouth moved again she spoke again determined not to let him say anything to her while his anger was most likely simmering.

"And...and...and I’m sure you’re going to like it."

His brow shot up and she recognized that look, he was indeed angry!

Tsk, how was she going to appease this tornado now?

"Do you think making something for me will cover up for everything you just said." He spoke up before she could even interrupt him. There was something light about his tone when usually his angry voice sounded like the ruthless gongs of hell.

Anne blinked innocently with a guilty look in her eyes.

"You looked like you were having a lot of fun playing your silly little games and acting like me, weren’t you? There’s going to be punishment for every word you said."

Punishment?

He wouldn’t make her run tons of miles or kneel out in the sun would he? It sounded like something that would come out of his twisted mind.

"If you enjoy acting like me so much knock yourself out. I seemed to have heard you laughing a while ago, while doing it, make sure you laugh to your full satisfaction."

Anne watched him drag a stool over and sat on it, his tall large figure dominating the space. He trained his eyes on her, arms folded on his chest as he watched her expectantly.

"We don’t have all day, go on." He urged with a commanding tone and Anne had no choice but to start making a face just like she had imitated him a while ago but he interrupted her halfway.

"Where did all that energy go Annelise, you did it a lot better earlier, if you don’t want a completely different punishment you better do it again exactly like you did earlier, word for word including the very last sentence."

Anne pouted and said, "I only said that you were a bit arrogant and a bit commanding, that’s all."

"Oh really? But I heard and even saw something completely different. The more you delay the more I’m thinking about even more worse ways to punish you."

"Alright, alright I’ll do it!" Anne let out a resigned sigh before quickly putting herself in character by mentally pretending he wasn’t there and making the face mimicking his angry expression and then repeated everything she said earlier.

Anne didn’t notice the small tilt to the side of his lips.

"Is that what I sound like to you?"

Anne bit her lips, her eyes darting nervously before she replied in the smallest whisper.

"It’s not my fault you always sound terrifying. And I even said some good things about you too." She added the last part a bit more audibly.

"Hmm, I seem to have forgotten that part, what exactly did you say was good about me?"

"I said that I didn’t dislike you, and that you might be arrogant and you might be cold sometimes but then you’re a little bit sweet, and little bit warm and really lo..." She suddenly stopped talking. Looking like a deer caught in headlights. Her cheeks instantly turned pink the color rose up her cheeks right up to her ears.

Lovable, was that the word she said?

As Anne thought about it, her face heated up even more and she suddenly felt the urge to hide.

A small smile played on Andrew’s light pink lips. His eyes glimmered with something especially pleasing.

Anne hadn’t at all realized what she said until this very moment, she suddenly became flustered knowing her face must look like an overripe tomato she quickly whirled around before he could say anything she began fiddling around with anything she could touch until she spilled a bottle of light pink coloring kept on the counter.

He noticed how flustered she suddenly seemed to have gotten and a light of interest flashed in his eyes. That word she had said last, he wanted to hear her say it right to his face, he wondered how much redder her cheeks could get.

Andrew heard her gasp dramatically before picking up the small bottle, the next second she turned in his direction and he noticed the pink smear all over her cheeks. When she gasped covering her mouth, she had smeared all the color that rubbed on her fingers over her cheeks.

"Look what you made me do!" She suddenly said accusingly, pointing at the spilled color on the white marble surface. Her bright brown eyes glimmering in the lighting in the kitchen and with her cheeks puffed up, she looked like a provoked blushing bunny with pink smears on her cheeks. Adorable and quite funny at the same time.

He moved his lips about to speak but she cut him off, "I know what I said earlier but you..."

Since she wouldn’t let him speak he pointed a finger to her cheek and she frowned before dazedly raising her hand to wipe against the clean part on her right cheek.

"There’s something here?" Instead of wiping off the color, she smeared her face more of the color on her hands. It was official, she now looked like the most adorable little clown he had ever seen.

She had gone on to paint half of each part of her face pink while looking at him innocently with large eyes.

Anne heard a sudden sharp breath escape his mouth, then a chuckle that turned into a low sound that made her stunned. The sound was rich and deep reverberating from deep within his chest.

Anne couldn’t move, she couldn’t even blink.

Was he...laughing?

The giant tornado was actually laughing?
