Chapter 257: Cold World

The vast world had always been cold, it spoke of feelings but they were always meaningless... suddenly she showed up, and the cold vast world began to have some warmth, the cold vast world became worthy to live for.

"Andrew, it’s raining." He heard her voice and it made him aware of the cool drops of water descending from the sky.

Realizing her hair was getting wet, he reluctantly peeled his arms off her fragile body realizing he had been holding her too tightly but she hadn’t uttered a single word of complaint.

When he pulled away from the hug, he looked into her eyes like someone studying her features for the first time.

Her fingers came up to lightly brush his cheeks.

In just a few minutes, old wounds had been peeled open and healed at the very same time. So right from the start, she was indeed his antidote.

Someone rushing over to the terrace suddenly interrupted this moment, the person held an umbrella over their heads while keeping a respectful distance.

"Master, the rain tends to get really heavy at this time of the evening."

Anne noticing the female guard was getting wet while holding an umbrella over their heads looked up at Andrew to ask,

"Can we go inside now?"

Perhaps wary that there was someone else around, his face hardened reverting to it’s original coldness while turning his head to the side so his staff wouldn’t see the vulnerability on his face at this moment as he held Anne’s hand and led her back inside.

He took her to a bedroom with unlimited, unencumbered space where a larger bed was centered in the foreground, it had a low platform frame and an enticing bedding arrangement of plush grey and brown pillows. In front of the bed there were two brown, round velvet ottomans serving as casual tables with books placed on top.

A soft patterned grey rug was spread beneath, to the right of which there was a long, modern sofa in a neutral shade. The lighting in the room was subtle and ambient, giving the room a warm golden glow.

Andrew strode into the room, pulling open the closet door which was built into the walls and grabbing a few pieces of clothes before turning around to walk back to her.

"The bathroom is that way, go change so you won’t catch a cold." His voice still contained that vibrating depth that always commanded attention however it had a rasp to it now that made his voice a lot lower like remnants of the emotions he had shed left on his vocal cords.

Anne took the clothes he handed her, but her eyes were on his face all along, as he turned to leave she quickly moved to grab his sleeve to stop him.

"Are you feeling okay?" She asked, her eyes shining with worry.

Anne was surprised when he smiled at her, raising his hand to smoothen her hair tenderly. "I’m fine, go change."

She nodded and headed towards the bathroom where he had just pointed to her.

When she emerged, she was wearing a black t-shirt that looked oversized on her with pants that surprisingly fit her. Anne looked around the bedroom but Andrew was nowhere to be seen, looking for him she went all around the room and when she didn’t find him, it became evident that he had gone out. But where did he go?

Anne was worried so she also went out of the bedroom only to find a different female bodyguard outside the door this time.

Back in Verizon, the Black Thorn Manor wasn’t this heavily guarded, Anne wondered why this particular place had so many bodyguards. Earlier when they had arrived, she had seen many guards outside as well. It made her deeply curious.

The guard upon seeing her come out of her room, lowered her head in greeting and subconsciously Anne did the same as well. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎

"Master said he’ll be back." She said to Anne, her voice a lot softer than the other female guard Anne had met earlier. This guard looked a lot more feminine, but her straight posture and aura made it obvious she was a lot stronger than she looked. Though Anne was very curious about everything in this place, she kept her curiosity to herself and instead asked,

"Where did he go?"

Earlier, Anne had continued to feel the warm dampness of tears falling on her back as she held him, she couldn’t help but feel concerned about him. Even though he had told her he was fine, could he really have shaken off his feelings that quickly?

"He didn’t say." The guard replied and Anne nodded in understanding before leaving the room herself. She was still unfamiliar with this place so she had to ask the guard for help finding the way back to Kristen’s room.

She lingered outside the door hesitantly as she remembered that she promised to let him meet her husband.

It didn’t matter, she could just give him an excuse for now.

Anne pushed the door open and walked into the room, she found a woman who was dressed in a white nurse’s uniform by his bed while Kristen himself was laying on the bed with his eyes closed seemingly fast asleep.

The nurse turned as the door opened, she gave Anne a polite smile. "You must be his sister."

"Yes I am, thank you for taking care of my brother and curing him, I never thought I’d see him looking this healthy again." Anne walked up to the bed, staring down at Kristen’s sleeping face. One part of her was afraid seeing him sleeping, she had seen this resting face far too many times and felt scared that him sleeping might take him back to that state again. But his chest rose and fell, he was breathing for himself, Anne quietly assured herself that he was fine as she heard the nurse’s voice.

"It was my job ma’am, but I wasn’t the one who cured him, I’m just one of his nurses."

Anne gave the nurse a curious glances to which she quickly replied,

"It was thanks to doctor Scott and doctor Reynolds’ combined efforts. They both performed a detailed analysis on his current state and figured out something his previous doctors most likely didn’t."

Anne nodded in understanding. She knew one of the doctors mentioned but she didn’t know the other name. She kept in mind that she would have to thank Shawn whenever she saw him next. He had performed Kristen’s surgery the previous time, and this time it successfully brought Kristen back, she felt immensely grateful to him and whoever the other doctor might be.

"Did he just fall asleep?" She asked, knowing Kristen, he would stubbornly want to stay awake till she returned.

"Yes, he fell asleep a while ago. I administered his evening injections and it tends to make one sleep, he said he wanted to wait for you but there’s a fixed time for his injections so it couldn’t wait."

"It’s alright, I’ll talk to him when he wakes up tomorrow."

Anne stayed back for a few moments more, tenderly watching Kristen’s sleeping face before she smoothed her palm over his hair, lowered herself to drop a light goodnight kiss on his forehead and then left the room. This time she needed no directions to go back the way she came, returning to the bedroom.

When she entered, she found Andrew sitting in bed. Not expecting to meet him there, she stopped momentarily.

He had changed clothes too, now wearing a simple white shirt. He sat straight with his back leaned against the headboard and arms crossed over his chest with his eyes closed, he opened them when Anne closed the door behind her. As their eyes locked, Anne froze by the door awkwardly as he continued to stare at her quietly as seconds passed by.

When she made no move nor said anything, he spoke up first.

"Are you planning to stand there all night? Come here."

Anne blinked then moved away from the door to walk towards him.

She had assumed that this was the room she would be staying tonight, that was why she came back here, but he was already sitting on the bed, could it be this was his room? Then when will she be showed her own room to sleep in?

She walked over till she was standing at the side of the bed where he was sitting, staring down at him expectantly as if waiting to hear what he had to say. She wanted to ask him if he was truly feeling better now, after which she would ask to be directed to her own room, but her lips had barely moved to speak when two hands suddenly cupped her waist and before she knew it, her whole world swayed.
