Chapter 293: Feeling Sick

He had made the meal, but he couldn’t even bear to swallow, how could she have allowed something so bad to pass down her throat?

"It’s not so bad, just a few shells, it won’t kill me." She quickly said as if having deciphered his thoughts from his expression. He looked appalled then guilt took over because she had eaten a bite out of the worse eggs anyone could ever consume.

He swallowed the horrible bite, if she ate it then he had to as well.

"Sorry, I thought it was..." He was beginning to apologize when she suddenly burst out laughing.

Her laughter sounding like cute bells chiming so soft and cute.

"I thought the great Andrew Sterling can do everything, but you can’t cook?"

Andrew stiffened.

Yes he prided himself in being able to do absolutely anything, but even he had never thought a day would come where he would be the kind of man to willingly want to prepare a meal for his woman.

"Maybe there’s one thing I can’t do." He conceded, pulling her even closer and pulling her hands away when she reached for the food again,

"Don’t eat that, it’s horrible. I’ll tell the maids to make you something."

"You made it, so it’s not that bad." She muttered, leaning against him.

"Is my wife trying to make me feel better?" He queried with a hint of teasing in his tone.

"I’m just saying that I appreciate the effort, you thought of making me breakfast so I feel grateful."

"You’re my wife, Annelise. Isn’t it my job to do all these things for you?"

"It’s surprising that Mr Andrew Sterling knows the roles of a husband." Anne chuckled as she spoke.

"I do, and I’m planning to become the very best husband in the world."

Andrew had made a lot of effort to learn the things he needed to about marriage.

He didn’t want to hurt her, even by mistake. He didn’t want to do anything that would put his relationship with Anne into any kind of trouble.

He loved her, and he was willing to learn what it took to become a good husband worthy of having her as his wife. He might not have started on the perfect note when it came to their relationship, but the rest of their lives he wanted to make her really happy. So he had purchased several books,

Guide to becoming the ideal husband by Lionel Kolton.

Secrets of a happy marriage by Mildred Finnigan.

Her needs by Justin Jensen.

A guide to her happiness by Lorell Hendrix.

All these books and more were what he would find himself studying while at the office. Along with those books, there was someone secretly helping him by telling him everything his wife had always liked from her childhood days till now.

A while later, they went downstairs to have breakfast together. Andrew was very reluctant to leave for work, for the first time in his life he actually wanted so badly to skip a work day so he could stay and spend the full day with his wife.

Now he understood men who would make excuses just to skip work. However, Anne fixed his necktie and waved at him as he left, he knew she spent her time at home working on her art pieces, so he decided to just go to work, if he stayed home he would want her to be by his side and that would interrupt her work as well.

Anne hadn’t exactly felt very good from the moment she woke up that morning, but she didn’t want to make Andrew feel bad of worried for her, so she masked it.

It had been a while since she last experienced any intense feelings of morning sickness, she had almost forgotten how it felt, but immediately Andrew left, she allowed herself to clutch her head which was pounding painfully, it was a kind of headache she hadn’t felt in a very long time.

Anne didn’t have the energy to work on her art today, so she curled up on the couch in her bedroom and closed her eyes hoping the headache would subside after a while.

At some point she fell asleep, but by the time she woke up, she found someone’s shadow hovering over her.

Weakly, she opened her eyes, hearing a distant voice of the person even though they were right in front of her.

"Mistress, are you okay?"

Anne’s gaze and hearing finally focused and she saw Katie looking down at her worriedly.

When she forced herself to sit up, the headache assaulted her again causing her to suck in a pained breath.

"Mistress, what happened?" Katie quickly rushed to support Anne but looked extremely surprised when she touched Anne.

"You’re burning up."

"I..." Anne could barely say anything with how hard she was finding it to focus at this moment. She was breathing very heavily and felt extremely light headed, with her mind all foggy unable to think straight.

Earlier, she had assumed her headache would be relieved to some extent if she took a short nap, she didn’t expect it to have gotten worse.

"I should go call the doctor." Katie said quickly moving away and then leaving the room.

Anne noticed the glass of water she kept covered on the coffee table a while ago and realized the burn in her throat was a sudden intense thirst, she moved to try to reach for the water with difficulty until her hand grabbed the glass, but the moment she picked it up her hand shook and the glass slipped out of her hold, falling to the ground and the room filled with a shattering sound.

*****

Sterling Enterprises company building.

11 a.m general board meeting.

The conference room was packed with high company share holders. The polished glass table held several bottles and glasses of water kept in front of each board member present in the room, along with that, a conference microphone kept in front of each person due to the size of the room for adequate noise circulation.

The CEO’s high seat was occupied by the man with a chillingly strict demeanor.

In the past, the board of directors discussed directly with Elder Sterling, but ever since Andrew’s succession, they dealt with him instead.

In other companies, CEO’s could be said to be subservient to the board of directors but in SE, it was a well known fact that no one could make Andrew Sterling bend to their will. Not even the board of directors would dare to propose anything they knew he would be in opposition with.

"...our growth trajectory is exceeding the targets set at the start of this year. It’s safe to say the company has already far beyond reached its yearly goal." One of the board members was speaking into his microphone getting nods of agreement from the others.

It was an incredible spike in profits over the past few months and it all started when Andrew redirected the financial strategy in the company. Many were very grateful Andrew had taken over, back then it had almost fallen into someone else’s hands, and they wouldn’t have been enjoying these high benefits now if that had happened.

"Meeting the yearly goal doesn’t mean we can’t strive for more. Before this year ends, there should be an additional 60% incremental revenue." Andrew began with a calm and composed voice.

When it came to business, a meager growth didn’t man satisfaction to him, if there was growth, there was room for more. Some of the board members were getting relaxed since the yearly profit goal had been met and he wanted to clear any illusions of relaxation out of their minds.

All the board members reacted with awe upon hearing what Andrew just said.

Could that truly be possible? Could the company really scale that much higher? Hitting the yearly goal was already a great feat, but Andrew was aiming for 60 percent more?

What people said was indeed true, he was relentless when it came to business, no wonder he was such a success.

At this very moment, Andrew’s phone buzzed on the table.

Usually at vital meetings like these, he would turn his phone off, how come he kept his phone on at a meeting like this?

And what made it even more surprising was that after looking down at the phone, he didn’t silence the call like the normal professional man they knew him to be, instead he picked it up causing the board members to exchange glances.

"What is it?" He answered.

"What happened to her?" He spoke again after a listening pause.

The board members didn’t understand what he was talking about, all they knew was that he was talking about a ’her’. It wasn’t a hidden fact that he had a wife now, but it was extremely surprising his wife could be enough reason for him to interrupt an important meeting.

"Give the phone to her, I’ll be right there." Andrew said, then momentarily detached the phone from his ear.

"Apologies, the meeting is adjourned." He informed the board before he started walking away.

Someone curiously asked,

"Is everything alright Mr Sterling?"

"My wife, she’s feeling sick." Was all he left them with before completely disappearing out of the conference room leaving the board members to exchange incredulous looks.
