Breeding System:My Five Beast Husbands Want Heirs-Chapter 7: A trap
They were packing up. Mira was spent and wanted to rest the night. Two days and twenty-three hours.
At this point, seduction was her best bet. Or better yet, forcing him to give her his babies, in a non consensual way. Isn’t there a hack to this? Some sort of love potion? Anything at this point.
Just when Mira was counting the stored leftovers, a cub ran to her. He had a wooden stick lit with fire in his hand.
"Hey, give me that. Fire is dangerous." She warned. "Only the grown ups should hold it." She took the porch.
"Really? Marr has one."
"Marr? Who’s Marr?" She asked.
"My friend who met you first for food. I saw him heading that way." The cub pointed. Mira’s eye twitched. She was the one who asked for fire. If the adults saw their cubs handling fire, the blame would be on her even though they used it to light up the pride in the dark but that was in unreachable areas from cubs.
"Take me to Marr." Mira said, her voice calm.
The cub ran forward. She followed, trying to keep up. This boy was speeding. "Hey, wait up!"
"I can’t. If I do, we won’t catch up to Marr." Echoed in the woods. She could not see him anymore, but she heard the brush of something against leaves. Mira stopped to catch her breath when a figure popped in front of her. She shrieked. It was the same boy she took the porch from.
"Marr went that way. Buh-bye scary lady."
"Hey-" she called but that was it. The boy was gone.
"Marr?" Mira yelled. "Where are you, Marr? Why so far away from the pride?" She panted.
Mira saw lights. The fire! Oh, good, he was close.
She followed the reflection of the orange light. Hers had already extinguished from the race and it was pitch black. Mira was an animal yet she could not shift. The previous her was defective and it made her cruel. After running that marathon, she understood why Mira was bitter. Seeing every animal be them while she couldn’t must’ve been hard.
"Marr!" Mira raised her voice. She got to an open space. This was weird. The trees around here are chopped down. The ground is also covered with dead leaves. She made her way forward, the crackling of the leaves echoing beneath her.
More reason why a lion cub should not be here on his own with fire! "Marr? Where are you. Help has arrived!"
The light source was stagnant now, it was coming from a hut messily built with dry palm trees. She walked in. Her heart relaxed and she let out a sigh of relief.
"Marr, what are you doing here?" She asked, walking to him gently.
"The lion lady said I could get meat here. She told me you had it prepared."
Mira’s brows furrowed. "What lion lady?" She asked, pulling the boy into her arms. She took the porch from him. It was then she noticed something.
This place had a smell. She lifted the boy up in her arms, letting his head rest on her chest, right above her boobs. Her feet grazed the floor. The ground was wet. And oily.
She held in a breath as the realisation hit her. Oil. A kid with fire away from the pride and oil. It was a trap.
[Run!]
Mira’s eyes widened. Heat. She felt it behind her. The aroma of the meat she made filled the hut.
"Meat!" Marr yelled excitedly, gushing forward. The push made her lose balance and knocked the porch off her hand. It fell on the ground. It happened in an instant. An explosion. Loud and heavy as fire soon came to be where the hut was. Everything was burning and the boy was not in her arms.
"Marr!" She screeched, the smoke filling her lungs. She heard the boy scream. The fire was everywhere. In the hut and spreading beyond.
"Marr!" Mira screamed louder, searching for the lion cub. She could not run and leave him. Jia Hao would kill her. Literally. Her feet tried to evade the burning leaves and branches as she searched for him. Cuddled up in a corner was the lion cub. Eyes shut, head faced up. He did not move. She made her way to him, risking her life to save the boy.
When she got to him, she wrapped her hand around his nose, blocking the smoke from getting into his lungs. Everywhere was covered with flames.
Every single where.
She felt a nudge on her shoulder. He’s alive! "Are you okay, little one?" Mira asked.
A cough was her response.
"I’ll get you to safety. You hang on."
Mira had two choices. It was either they stayed here and let the fire consume them or run through it. Either way, they will meet fire. She chose to run.
As Mira raced through, a thick branch cracked. It was going to fall. She was close to the entrance but she knew she could not take the cub’s weight with hers, so she did the best thing she could do. She threw him towards the exit. The branch came crashing and she managed to manoeuvre. She coughed. It was getting unbearable to breathe. But she needed to get that cub out of here.
She raced through to the exit. The first thing she did when she perceived unburnt air was inhale.
The fire was surrounded by pride members now and they were extinguishing it. Mira’s blurry gaze paced through the surroundings, her heart skipping beats till she found him. Marr. The boy was with some beast men. At least he was safe.
She took a feeble step forward, now sighting Jia Hao. A smile crept at the end of her lips but it only lasted a second. He lunged towards her and he did not look happy.
