Captured By The Cold Detective (BL)-Chapter 67: Think Twice
Mu Yuze clenched his fists and the pain from the card’s hard edges pressing into the flesh woke him up from his trance. His heart sank to the pit of his stomach when he saw He Juan staring at him with eyes wide in disbelief.
What have you done, Mu Yuze?! He Juan did not even remember anything right now, so what’s the use of him brooding over this matter?
"Xiao Ze, you..." Shock coursed through He Juan’s veins like lightning. For a second, he thought that he had heard wrong. However, he immediately rejected that notion. In such a close distance, each word Mu Yuze said drifted to his ears loud and clear, He Juan could not even fool himself if he wanted to. He stared into Mu Yuze’s eyes and asked with a somber smile, "You don’t believe me?"
He had practically offered himself to Mu Yuze, only short of cutting his chest open to show the omega his warm and beating heart. He thought that he had made himself loud and clear, but... it seemed like he had been too naïve?
He Juan heaved out a helpless sigh and took a step back, distancing himself from Mu Yuze’s warm body. An unprecedented sense of loss enveloped his heart, leaving him cold and bereft. However, he forced himself to focus on the matter at hand.
Now that He Juan was sober enough to think in Mu Yuze’s shoes, it was actually not weird for Mu Yuze to doubt him. They had met only three days ago, and the amount of time they had spent together was even less than that! Not to mention, they had not even gone on a single date! Even a couple who had dated each other for years would still doubt each other once in a while, let alone the two of them! Goodness! The more He Juan thought about it, the more appalled he was. What kind of suitor was he? How could he be so lousy in courting the omega he wanted?!
Alas, it’s not like he could do anything about it, could he? Mu Yuze was just too busy and his work as a police officer came first, especially when the culprit to the homicide case was still roaming free right now. He Juan could not just demand his time and attention selfishly.
In short, this was not their fault. There was just not enough time for them to know each other deeper. He Juan was sure that he would be able to convince Mu Yuze of his feelings if he were to be given his chance. He just had to work harder for that!
Seeing He Juan retreating from him, Mu Yuze’s pupils shrunk sharply and he promptly bit down on his lower lip in order to prevent himself from saying anything stupid again. For example... to beg the Alpha to bite and mark him right here and now. He had to breathe through his mouth so that his mind would not get muddled by the traces of He Juan’s pheromones in the air.
After he was sure that his composure was in place, he opened his mouth. "Juan-gege..."
"I understand."
The words Mu Yuze was going to say were stuck to his throat. "...Huh?"
"It’s okay, you don’t need to say anything more. I perfectly get it." He Juan showed a reassuring smile and reached out to ruffle Mu Yuze’s hair. "Don’t worry, even if you doubt me now, I will work extra hard to court you. At least, I am relieved that you have this little mistrust in me. Or else you won’t even realize when I am planning to sold you and you will even help me count the money!" He Juan let out an amused snort.
He completely failed to notice the look of speechlessness Mu Yuze gave him, nor how Mu Yuze’s tense shoulders subtly sagged in relief. How to describe it... he was relieved that He Juan’s imagination was so wild that he could fill in the blanks on his own, but at the same time he was also angry at how dense he was!
"That’s right," Mu Yuze deadpanned, entirely out of spite. "You should work harder."
"En, I will!" He Juan’s eyes curved into crescents, completely missing the faint sarcasm in Mu Yuze’s tone.
Mu Yuze: "..." Sigh, forget it.
In order not to make himself angrier, Mu Yuze could only shift the topic and conveniently, he had one at hand. He opened his palm and showed He Juan the expensive black card he had been gripping. "What is this? Where did you get this card from?" Of course, Mu Yuze would not think that He Juan was capable enough to afford this card. He already had a thorough understanding of He Juan’s wealth when the police investigated the Alpha’s background the other day.
He Juan was dumbfounded when he saw the familiar little thing in Mu Yuze’s hand. He patted his pocket to realize that it had long since disappeared from his side. Since when did Mu Yuze take it?
Seeing the omega’s grave expression, He Juan asked carefully. "You know... what this card is for?"
"Why not?" Mu Yuze narrowed his eyes sharply. "You’d better think twice before you answer, He Juan."
For now, He Juan might have been taken off the list of murder suspect. But what would everyone think if he had the VIP access card to where the culprit was hiding? Adding on to the bloody name that was scrawled on the crime scene... This time, it would not be easy for He Juan to wash himself clean!
Why? Mu Yuze pondered wildly. Why did this member card so conveniently get into He Juan’s hand at a critical time like this? Exactly what was He Juan’s involvement in this murder case? Why did it feel like... the perpetrator’s purpose was to push He Juan into the police’s radar again and again?
He Juan knew that he would not be able to get away anymore. He offered a helpless smile. "Alright, I will tell you. Don’t get angry, Xiao Ze. I have planned to tell you everything to begin with. Let’s..." he reached out a hand toward Mu Yuze. "Let’s go in and talk in the living room, okay?" He stared at Mu Yuze with a hopeful look, wishing that the omega would give him another chance to redeem himself.
Mu Yuze stared at the Alpha’s pleading face with an indescribable expression, then his gaze slowly traveled downward to the hand that was still offered to him. Pursing his lips tight, he gingerly reached out and placed his own hand into He Juan’s.
As soon as he did, He Juan’s eyes immediately lit up and a dazzling smile spread across his face. He grasped Mu Yuze’s soft hand tighter and pulled the omega inside.
He busied around in the kitchen, preparing a drink for Mu Yuze ("only water," the omega said expressionlessly), confirming that he was comfortable on the couch ("this is my house and I chose all the furniture here. Of course, it will be comfortable for me," the omega stated with yet an expressionless look), and asking if he wanted something else ("Stop running around," he finally snapped in impatience).
Like a wilted cabbage, He Juan finally took a seat on the opposite couch and recounted every single thing he had heard from Su Xieren. In the end, he could not help but add, "I want to respect Xieren’s wish. Miss Zhao left the evidence only for him, meaning that she could only put her trust in Xieren. And in exchange, Xieren decided to trust me." He rambled for so long without getting to the main point.
Mu Yuze reached the peak of his patience once again. "So what do you want?"
He Juan also knew that he was in the wrong. He rubbed his forehead and chuckled helplessly. Taking a deep breath, he raised his head and put on a serious look. "I want to ask you for a favor. When you hand this evidence to the police... just say that you took it from me, okay? Don’t involve Miss Zhao and Xieren. I am afraid that... if this news gets out, Su Xieren will be in danger."
Mu Yuze’s eyebrows twitched uncontrollably and a violent storm was brewing in his dark eyes. Then what about you? What if it got you into danger instead?! He fervently wished that he could shout those questions into He Juan’s ears to smack some sense into his skull. Alas, it would be futile. He knew that this Alpha would not listen to him once he had made up his mind.
He Juan had been prepared for Mu Yuze’s refusal. After all, Miss Zhao had placed such a great importance on this card. Of course, the police needed to investigate it thoroughly as well as the person who had received it – Su Xieren. He had been prepared to be rebuked, and had also thought of numerous alternative ways he could keep Su Xieren out of this mess.
However, Mu Yuze replied lightly, "Okay."
He Juan snapped his head up in shock. "Okay...?" How could Mu Yuze promise him so easily? Uneasy, He Juan asked again to confirm, "You really agree?" 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
"Yes," Mu Yuze sighed. "Either way, this card is nothing but beneficial to the police." Just as He Juan was going to ask what he meant by that, Mu Yuze suddenly revealed without any warning, "The suspect we have locked in, Long Guozhi, is currently hiding inside Phoenix Ablaze. The police speculated that he has a backing who allows him to act so unrestrained and judging from what you told me about Miss Zhao’s letter, it has been 80% confirmed that this person should be the one who wanted Miss Zhao dead. Because we have no access card, we have no way to go undercover inside. This..." he shook the card in his fingers lightly. "...just came at the right time. The police should give you a banner as thanks."
He Juan’s eyes flew wide in shock. His fists clenched atop of his knees and his expression grew somber. He knew it! The powerful person Miss Zhao had referred to in her letter... must have something to do with her death!
Chills ran down He Juan’s spine and he could not help but pat himself for his insight. Fortunately, he had acted quickly and shoved Su Xieren away from this matter. Otherwise, once that person saw him with this card, He Juan was afraid that Su Xieren really would not be able to keep his life!
"Alright," He Juan nodded. "So what’s the plan now?"
