Carrying a Jurassic on me-Chapter 1336 - 651 Continuous Action_2
Chapter 1336: Chapter 651 Continuous Action_2
Xu Changsheng frowned slightly. "Then let’s have the hospital staff come and take a look first, and use their gambling money to cover the costs. Remember, safety first. We absolutely can’t have any mishaps!"
Dang Wenzheng nodded and ran off to give instructions.
At this point, all the available personnel had returned to the station. Everyone knew someone had been arrested and hurried over as soon as they heard, fearing the station would be understaffed. That’s just how it is with small police outposts – you’re really short on hands.
Once things were organized at the station, Xiang Changqing and a few others got into the car and drove off towards the east at breakneck speed.
After crossing the East Bridge and meeting up with three vehicles from the cattle farm, they roared off together.
Passing through a village, bystanders gawked as the four cars whizzed by, including a police car. Those watching the excitement on the streets were utterly astonished, "During the Chinese New Year, what kind of big case has come up now?"
Almost every village they passed through sparked the same questions, followed by waves of speculation and gossip of all kinds.
The first village they were heading to was one where outsiders had organized a gambling operation.
Yan Fei was on the phone in the car, getting the address. Once they arrived, they didn’t even stop; they just drove straight to the back of the village.
The noise of the car was unavoidable; in the village, people were gathered together, chatting and laughing, and naughty children were setting off firecrackers. The large noise of several cars simply couldn’t be concealed.
The car couldn’t drive straight to the gamblers’ house - they had to stop a good distance away. Yan Fei didn’t wait for the car to come to a complete stop before flinging open the door and jumping out. The sounds of car doors opening in rapid succession followed, and people piled out of the two minivans and ran towards him.
Yan Fei wasted no words and gestured for everyone to hurry.
At this moment, everyone relied on him; otherwise, if everyone were to take wrong turns, by the time they reached the gambling spot, the culprits would probably have all run off.
Because they acted quickly, when they arrived, Yan Fei took several large steps forward and kicked the door open, revealing a room full of people in disarray, frantically trying to pack up their things.
This was the challenge of catching gamblers in the village during the day; stealth was not an option. At night, it would have been better – except for some barking dogs, which although might raise the villagers’ alertness, people tend to be less vigilant at night, and the noise in the gambling room is usually so chaotic that they might not even hear the sounds outside.
Seeing Yan Fei and so many others rush in, those who were packing could no longer focus on their task. However, two quick-thinkers hurriedly stashed the money into corners and crevices...
What followed was simple – handcuffing two people together, leading a chain of them away.
Now it was time for the police to take charge, not just rely on Yan Fei. As they escorted the people, they also shouted out, mainly to propagate why the arrests were being made.
With Yan Fei and his team following, except for the families of the gamblers, no one else dared to intervene – otherwise, if it weren’t for them, the station would have had a tough time taking people away in broad daylight. Most villagers are legally illiterate, firmly believing in the idea that there is safety in numbers and in supporting kin over justice, and wouldn’t hesitate to confront officers making arrests. freewebnoveℓ.com
The second village went even more smoothly, as the gambling location was right next to the main road. The cars stopped right beside the house, and people stormed in – some inside didn’t even have time to throw away their playing cards!
The third village was to the north of the town, and they had to return to the town itself to get there – there was no way to cross without using the bridge. But even without the river, they probably would have had to go back. People who haven’t traveled on country roads these days can hardly imagine how bad they can be.
But it turned out to be just fine, for Old Ou’s truck was crammed with people who were enjoying the sensation of the wind whipping by!
Once in town, they left a few people from the station and the cattle farm, including Old Ou, to escort a truckload of gamblers to the station. The remaining three vehicles continued northward to their final target.
The first two villages had outsiders coming in for gambling, but not the third. It was said that among those villagers who worked outside, there was one particularly "Awesome" individual who, out of boredom, organized some of the locals for card games, playing for hefty sums, with the stakes for a single game reaching into the dozens of yuan.
The village chief was old-fashioned and very detailed on the phone, almost wishing the police could fly in to nab the youngster – these old-timers particularly despised such corruption of public morals, with one "rotten apple spoiling the barrel."
The "Awesome" guy who had mixed it up outside, upon returning, boasted constantly about his outside connections, claiming his association with this and that ’big brother’ could dominate entire city blocks.
Two other young villagers who had worked outside with him corroborated his tales in envious tones, attesting that he "maintained order" at a big hotel where a cough from Laoda could hush half the street for a good while.
In truth, many villagers didn’t understand why a hotel security guard deserved such awe. It was all just big talk, though this fellow certainly was generous with money, reportedly always dressed in branded clothes...
Even though many looked on disapprovingly, there were indeed young people in the village who became intrigued by the tales of this "maintain order" guy – aren’t there always movies about petty gangsters in vogue? What he described sounded just like those films, so appealing to the hot-blooded youth!
