CASSANDRA: The Unfavored Princess-Chapter 83: Dark Magic
Duke Salvador looked in the direction of the sound as his eyes turned sharp.
Vivere Kingdom’s Crown Prince, Prince Carl stood in front of the Emperor with a smile on his face and a gaze filled with arrogance.
’They did not feel like people that have come here for a peace treaty.’
’But like people who are here for a motive.’
Aiden did not know why he thought so as his eyes moved towards the fifth Princess who was silent as always but there was a certain aura surrounding her as if she was frightened by something.
’I have to ask Princess Cassandra.’
’I have to.’
Duke Salvador’s hands formed a fist as he readjusted his attention on the man speaking.
"We are grateful to the Emperor for giving us such an opportunity. But before we could provide, I would like to interject." Prince Carl smiled but everyone present knew that the smile held something else in it.
"Do tell us, Prince Carl." The Emperor smiled lazily as he rested his head on his hand, but his eyes were telling a different story.
"As we have already sent a letter to the palace before our arrival, I would like to live with one of the Duke." Prince Carl blinked as he could see the raised eyebrows on the Emperor’s face. "I do believe that the Elvira Empire has the best security and would not attack a Prince of a defeated country who is here for a peace treaty but I am a paranoid person, and the Palace’s walls are something that I avoid with all my might."
Prince Carl looked at his sister who was sitting there like an obedient little girl. "The Emperor can ask my sister, I do not stay at Vivere Kingdom’s palace as well. I have my own quarters and soldiers. I hope the Emperor would understand my stand here and not object." Prince Carl’s words were simple and the Emperor also understood that he would not take no for an answer.
The Emperor was in deep thought.
[Some people use dark magic-like things.]
[Can we believe them?]
[But I cannot openly dismiss his request now.]
[But all the Duke’s are on my side.so why should I worry?]
[Even if they do have something planned I can temple on their plans at any moment. And with such small soldiers what can Vivere Kingdom’s Crown Prince do?]
The Emperor blinked as he laughed. "Of course, the life of any Prince is not easy. But you don’t have any siblings who could oppose."
Prince Carl did not object. It was a well-known fact that their father had only one queen and two children. There was nothing to object to. "Yes, but I have a sister and other nobles as well."
Princess Teimei giggled as her eyes turned sharp suddenly and her innocent aura changed completely as she strengthened her body. "Yes, it is only right for brother to be afraid."
[They do have problems.]
The Empress was smiling, enjoying the situation to the fullest.
Princess Cassandra who was listening to the thoughts was silent. Her mind was still on the word that the Emperor had used.
’Dark Magic.’
’Was it dark magic that made Prince Carl know that I could read mind?’
It was a possibility that Princess Cassandra was considering. But before she came onto any answer the Empress’s voice filled the hall.
"Of course, the Vivere kingdom’s Crown prince safety comes first. I heard the Princess wants to enjoy the Royal life of the Empire. I have redecorated your room in the palace. I hope the Princess would like it."
Princess Teimei giggled. "Yes, I am grateful to the Empress."
Soon the topic was resolved but the minds of the nobles were messed up. They were thinking many things but could not say anything in her room.
The atmosphere was stiff and none of the sides were backing down, Prince Carl refused to sit as he continued. "I have taken a stop at Duke Bentham’s territory. I would like to stay in their mansion if the Emperor agrees."
The Emperor’s eyes twitched as his lips curled up sarcastically. Duke Bentham was one of them. A loyal friend and now a relative of my marriage.
[Yes, that would be best.]
[Duke Bentham’s is innocent and will never betray me.]
[And after the marriage he will be family anyway.]
"Yes, If the Prince wishes, he could stay at Duke Bentham. I am sure the Duke will not disappoint you." The Emperor’s gaze moved to Duke Bentham who stood up and bowed his head, taking the order.
The Emperor smiled as he saw Prince Carl sit down unaware of the thought in Prince Carl’s mind.
[The fifth Princess should be rest assured now. I have eased your situation now. You can come to visit me at your fiancé’s Mansion. You will come, right Princess?]
Prince Carl looked at the fifth Princess with raised eyebrows.
Princess Cassandra could not deny or accept the situation. Her eyes moved towards Lord Bentham subconsciously but soon she saw Duke Salvador looking at her attentively.
It scared Princess Cassandra to a point that her sight refused to look up. But Prince Carl’s words never stopped. It was as if the man was enjoying her state now.
[The fifth Princess should not make me wait for too long.]
[I am an impatient man, Princess.]
[Think what would happen if I lose my patience and say something that should not be said.]
[I know that no one in the Empire knows about your unusual ability.]
Cassandra’s gaze looked up in shock at Prince Carl’s words. There was a faint smile on his face.
’He is enjoying this.’ Cassandra was sure of it. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
[Now the fifth Princess is ready to look at me. Do you know what happens to the people who have unusual capacity than the regular one?]
[If you cannot control fire, wind, water, and earth and control something else you are a witch.]
[Someone who used Dark powers.]
[And what do the Elvira Empire’s people do to such people, I shouldn’t have to say that to you separately.]
Princess Cassandra’s eyes shook as her heartbeats increased. The answer was very clear. They are killed.
[Oh, and I heard they call Vivere Kingdom’s people Dark magicians here. Such a naïve thing to do.]
[Any way Princess Cassandra I am hoping that you would come to visit me tonight at Duke Bentham’s palace. Someone will come to pick you up.]
[I hope the Princess won’t disappoint me.]
Princess Cassandra’s breathing was harsh. Her hands had formed a fist long back as her nails dug deeper into her palm. She looked at Prince Carl as she gave a small nod. Making sure that no one will know.
But a pair of red eyes caught her every act. And it annoyed him to a greater extent.
Duke Salvador looked at his friend who was talking with his father. Lord Bentham’s and Duke Bentham’s voices were low and they were the only two who could understand each other.
Duke Salvador waited till the father and son’s talk was over and then he moved towards Lord Bentham.
"Why is Prince Carl staying at your Mansion," Aiden asked, irritated.
"You listened to the man Aiden, He liked our hospitality. Why are you such a thing?" Achard asked but his eyes were dark.
Aiden did not reply right away as he smiled. His curled lips had many thoughts buried in them. "I hope that is true, Achard. I just wish you were not lying to me. That you are not keeping secrets."
Lord Bentham smiled innocently. "What secrets would I keep. I cannot lie to a man who will catch it right away."
Aiden’s eyes scanned Lord Bentham before he nodded his head. It was true that Achard could not lie to him, but something within Duke Salvador’s heart was making him uncomfortable.
It was a word feeling that was keeping Duke Salvador at his toes. Maybe that is why when the Royalty and Nobles shifted to the dining room, his eyes refused to leave Prince Carl even for a second.
Duke Salvador observed Prince Carl’s very moment. From his cunning smile to the way his hands moved to pick up his wine glass. The strength the Vivere Kingdom’s Crown Prince applied on his spoon was also noted.
From time to time Prince Carl looked up at Duke Salvador as if feeling his gaze on him. He smiled at Aiden who did not respond to his smile. But Prince Carl did not take it to heart.
The war hero, who had won a part of the land in the battle, was meant to be arrogant and Prince Carl had personally seen Duke Salvador fight. A man who never even blew a blow to the Emperor is difficult to deal with.
But Prince Carl’s attention was not there but on his sister. "Teimei eat this as well. I am sure you would like it. The taste is similar to the one we get in our Kingdom."
