CAT WARLOCK: This Darklord Feasts Upon Horror-Chapter 231: The Ceremony
Lalo widened his eyes a little but quickly regained his composure.
"I see." Lalo smiled deviously. The more dangerous the better, it made the chase more fun for him.
Behind them were a group of Psychics live-streaming.
"Hello, fam! It is Transporter of the Atlas Seven. I’m here with the newest recruit, Stardust."
They made all kinds of poses in front of the phone’s camera. The leaders of the group were a short blonde hair man, nicknamed Transporter, and a long blonde hair girl, nicknamed Stardust.
Lalo and Lucyna turned back to look at them.
"Aren’t those the poor Silver Corporation?" Lalo said.
Lucyna shrugged and went back to watching the ceremony.
The Atlas Seven was a rich company. But it was nothing compared with the Von Schattenbergs and the Zakharovs. Their enterprises were worldwide. Lalo had even more disdain toward these wannabes than the poor ones.
On the podium, the principal of the Institute arrived.
Suddenly, a wave of Psycho Force spread to all directions from within the Principal. It deactivated all the electrical devices and directed all attention to him.
The recruits of the Atlas Seven settled down and tucked their phones away.
The black cat scanned the man with its octagrams. The principal was strong. Not a flimsy Psychic with a soft base. But a battle hardened warrior in a peaceful time.
"He’s a Rank-3 Psychic." The black cat meowed.
"He’s that strong?" Selina said.
"Of course. Why do you think people stop messing with you once you join the Institute? You have a Rank-3 behind your back." The black cat stroked his whiskers.
Rank-3 Psychic was categorized as a Disaster. While Menace could only cause minor destruction, Hazard caused building destruction, a Disaster-level Psychic could easily level the entire Institute. Their power level was that of a destructive wide-scale bomb.
They weren’t nuclear yet obviously. That was for even more powerful Psychics. A Rank-4 potentially.
Information about Rank-4 was extremely classified. Mater couldn’t even find anything on the interweb. But he knew for sure that Aaron Cage was a Rank-4 once.
Bronze Bounty Hunters were Menace-level.
Silver Bounty Hunters were Hazard-level.
Gold Bounty Hunters were the highest that the public knew. Disaster-level Psychics.
Aaron Cage was a Platinum Hunter. He must be one Rank higher than Disaster.
"Good morning, students of the Institute. I am Principal Hugh Graves."
Principal Graves was a burly man with a full thick beard. He had a gentle smile and a pair of crazy eyes. The eyes that always scanned his environment and were ready for battle at any time.
He was a veteran of war. Mater was sure of it. Because the black cat was the same.
"I welcome you, new and old students of our Institute, to a new semester. You will face many challenges, hardships, and obstacles that test your intelligence, your bravery, and most importantly, your dignity.
In this university, you shall find your true self. And I wish you luck on your path."
Hugh tapped his fist on his chest, he shouted loud and clear, "Truth and Light!"
All the students stood up and did the same gesture, they shouted after him, "Truth and Light!"
That was the motto of the Institute. But for some reason, it bugged the hell out of Mater.
’I know one God that uses that quote. This university might already be stained...’
The ceremony went on for only another half an hour where various people went up and had a speech. No one liked to attend these ceremonies and the Institute was very practical about it. It only did what was absolutely necessary.
The last person that went onto the podium was the President of the University.
While the Principal led all the Professors. The President was the leader of all the students.
It was a young woman with long wavy hair. Her hair was that of a raven color. She wore a soft, gentle expression. That of a lady that Mater had long not met since he came to this world.
She held dignity, restraint, and grace at the same time.
"I didn’t think that there would be a classical type of lady in this world." The black cat meowed.
Selina was dozing off. She regained her focus when she heard Mater was having an interest in another woman.
"She felt... harmless." Selina whispered.
"Don’t be fooled by a lady’s graceful demeanor. They could be the most dangerous ones you need to look out for. But don’t worry. As long as you aren’t their enemy, you should be fine." The black cat stroked its whiskers.
"Hello everyone, I am Sae Seto, your Student Council President."
Her voice was soft and gentle, exactly like her demeanor. Sae gave a very brief welcome to the new students and a short summary of what they were going to do in the school year. It was very basic stuff. But everyone knew she was referring to something else.
The ceremony was held publicly. To avoid leaking information, they could only speak in metaphor.
"The mid-semester test will be held on an island off the coast of Aeliz City. There we will determine what your role is in this university. A leader? A follower? Or a fighter?"
Lalo punched his hands together. Lucyna played with her hair, small bursts of lightning leaked out from her fingers. Selina’s eyes turned red. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
"Whatever you do, just remember... Don’t die." Sae’s tone turned serious for a moment and she quickly returned to the usual cheerful and casual way of speaking.
"Of course, I was just joking!" She chuckled gently. That last line was for the public.
But every Psychic here knew she wasn’t kidding. The Institute was not a peaceful ordinary school. It’s a colosseum with the highest mortality rate in the Union. But it’s also the best place to birth powerful Psychics.
"Truth and Light!" Sae tapped her chest.
"Truth and Light!" The students responded.
The ceremony ended. Selina’s school life officially started.
She stood up with the rest of them. She spotted many familiar faces. Some that she didn’t expect would be there.
The goth girl looked down to her cat with deep suspicion, "Did you do something, Mr. Mater?"
The black cat shrugged nonchalantly, "Maybe..."
