Chapter 27: Chapter 27: She Is My Wife

Work was light in the afternoon, so Summer Lancaster got off early. Downstairs, she saw Kenneth Yates’s car waiting and slipped inside.

"Why are you here so early?" she asked.

"I’m taking you somewhere."

"Where?" Summer asked, puzzled.

"You’ll know when we get there."

When they arrived, Summer Lancaster looked up and saw they were at Belleza. Rumor had it the stylist here was incredibly picky about his clients—money alone wasn’t enough to secure his services. She followed Kenneth Yates inside and saw a man wearing makeup, looking utterly captivating. He was a very unique type of man, exuding an indescribable charm.

When the man noticed Summer staring, he turned his gaze on her. Summer immediately averted her eyes.

"Kenneth, your presence makes my humble little place shine." Summer was surprised that Kenneth Yates actually knew this designer.

"Oz, get her ready. We’re going to a party at Dominic’s later." Kenneth Yates pushed Summer forward from behind him. She gave an awkward smile.

The man, Oz, crossed his arms, a puzzled look on his face.

"Kenneth, you’ve never brought a woman here before. Don’t tell me..." Kenneth Yates cut him off.

"She’s my wife," Kenneth said nonchalantly, settling onto a luxurious sofa.

"What? Kenneth, when did you get married?" Oz’s jaw dropped. Summer was also stunned. ’This was the first time he’d ever introduced her as his wife to anyone.’

"Two years ago." Kenneth picked up a nearby magazine and started flipping through it.

Oz turned to look at the young woman before him. She looked to be in her early twenties, with a round face and long, jet-black hair. She had a fresh, unworldly air about her. She wasn’t like the career-driven powerhouses with their sharp makeup and cold expressions, nor was she like the starlets from the entertainment world, always striking a pose. ’Kenneth’s taste isn’t bad,’ he thought. ’This girl might seem plain, but she’s surprisingly stunning.’

Summer started to feel self-conscious under his scrutiny and was the first to break the silence.

"Hello. You’re Oz, right? I’m Summer Lancaster." Summer extended her right hand.

"Are you really Kenneth’s wife?" Oz didn’t shake her hand, and Summer awkwardly pulled hers back.

"Uh, yes."

Oz took a step forward, studying her carefully. "Then why does no one know you’ve been married for two years?" ’Even I didn’t know. Dominic and Rong probably don’t know either. The thought of being the first to know made him a little giddy. I can hold this over them later.’

"Haha..." Summer laughed awkwardly, offering no explanation. ’Why was it a secret? She didn’t know either. When they got married, Kenneth Yates had made it a condition that they keep it hidden. He’s probably afraid Thea Shaw would be heartbroken if she found out.’

"Oh, Oz, we should get started. We’re going to be late otherwise," Summer said, changing the subject.

"Okay, okay, come on in." Oz turned to the man on the sofa. "Kenneth, I’ll give you a real surprise." Then he blew him a kiss. Kenneth Yates just smiled without responding.

About an hour later, Summer walked out. Kenneth Yates lowered his magazine and stared at her in disbelief. She was wearing a sky-blue Alexander McQueen gown that complemented her fair skin. A Bvlgari diamond necklace adorned her neck. Her makeup was subtle, yet the effect was dazzling. Oz had also skillfully swept her hair into an updo.

Seeing Kenneth’s transfixed gaze, Oz chuckled and waved a hand in front of his face.

"Well, Kenneth? What do you think?"

"COUGH COUGH. Uh, yeah. Not bad." Kenneth awkwardly tore his eyes away.

"What do you mean, ’not bad’? She’s perfect! This gown suits her beautifully. Kenneth, I’ve got a suit ready for you, too. Go on, get changed."

When Kenneth Yates came out, Summer practically started drooling. He wasn’t in his usual formal attire. Instead, he wore a white tuxedo, looking exactly like a prince straight out of a fairy tale.

While she was lost in her fantasy, Kenneth Yates walked right up to her.

"Admit it. I’m devastatingly handsome," he said, his eyes full of charm.

"You’re okay, I guess."

"Hah. Let’s go." Summer got in the car with him. On the drive, she looked like she wanted to say something several times, but she remained silent.

"Just say what’s on your mind," Kenneth said, having already noticed her expression.

Summer turned to face him. "I think that designer, Oz... likes you."

Kenneth Yates burst out laughing. ’Is this woman an idiot?’

"Yes, he’s in love with me. You’ve discovered my biggest secret. You have to keep it safe for me, okay?" Kenneth said with a perfectly straight face. Now it was Summer’s turn to be mortified. She turned back around in her seat, lowered her head, and fell silent. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

"Hey, hey, I was just kidding," Kenneth quickly explained when he saw her crestfallen expression. "We met while studying abroad. We’re just friends."
