Cold War between Mr. and Mrs Vaughn: He Regretted when Divorce-Chapter 138: Victoria Sinclair Reaches Out to Eugene Vaughn
Victoria Sinclair saw Hector Grant coming out of the consultation room and wanted to approach with Angela in hand, "Dr. Grant."
Angela froze in fear, not daring to turn her head, and murmured softly, "I’ll wait for you outside."
Saying this, Angela quickly walked towards the elevator.
Hector Grant’s gaze followed Angela’s silhouette until she hurriedly entered the elevator, before looking at Victoria Sinclair, "Miss Sinclair, what are you doing here?"
"I’m accompanying Angela for her medical appointment, and she booked yours."
Hector Grant nodded, "She’s fine, a few days of medication should do the trick, come back for a follow-up in a week."
"Dr. Grant, are you off work?"
Hector Grant removed his mask, "Yes, about to finish."
"I was wondering if you have time to grab dinner together." Victoria Sinclair hadn’t invited before, feeling slightly awkward, "Just to thank you for treating my friend."
Hector Grant smiled warmly, "Your friend ran faster than a rabbit, probably doesn’t want to meet the doctor who treated her again, let’s skip dinner, just give me the documents and I’ll pass them on for you."
Victoria Sinclair was surprised, stunned.
She quickly reacted, immediately took out the document from her bag, smiling brightly, "Thank you, Dr. Grant."
Communicating with smart people, the cost is so low, efficiency is so high, it’s great!
Hector Grant took the documents, bid her a polite farewell, and left.
Victoria Sinclair left the hospital and found Angela at the entrance, the two walked arm in arm towards the subway.
"Dr. Grant asked you to come for a follow-up next week."
Angela pouted, very resistant: "Isn’t one awkward encounter enough? I’m not going."
"Dr. Grant seems quite nice..."
Angela: "How nice can he be? A man, so many medical fields to study, yet chooses to specialize in obstetrics and gynecology, there must be some issues or ulterior motives."
Victoria Sinclair was left speechless.
Suddenly, an angry roar came from behind.
"Victoria Sinclair, stop right there."
Upon hearing, Victoria Sinclair and Angela turned around.
It was Mr. and Mrs. Sinclair.
Mrs. Sinclair held a bag containing chest X-ray results and medication.
It seemed they had come for a medical check-up.
"Dad, Mom," Victoria Sinclair greeted.
Angela politely said, "Hello, uncle and auntie."
Mrs. Sinclair quickly stepped forward, grabbed Victoria Sinclair’s hand, her gaze sharp, demeanor assertive, "Did you do what I asked last time?"
Victoria Sinclair’s face darkened.
"Victoria Sinclair, I’m your mother, you must listen to me on this matter."
Angela was puzzled, looking at Mrs. Sinclair, "Auntie, what’s going on?"
Mrs. Sinclair angrily rebuked, "It’s none of your business."
Angela was immediately deflated.
Victoria Sinclair took a deep breath and said seriously, "Mom, don’t yell at my friend."
"I don’t care about your damned friend, go tell your superiors, that two billion investment must be withdrawn, you are responsible for your brother’s remarriage."
Victoria Sinclair slowly clenched her fist, lightly biting her lip.
Angela was shocked.
"If you can’t get back two billion, at least bring out one billion, that’s your brother’s money."
Angela couldn’t help but blurt out, "Why should Victoria give her money to Timothy?"
Mrs. Sinclair scowled at Angela, "She owes her brother, if not for her, my son wouldn’t have dropped out of middle school and lost his future."
Angela was infuriated, biting her lip.
Victoria Sinclair knew Angela was like her, not good at arguing, but Angela’s character was slightly more outgoing, unable to tolerate such unfairness.
Victoria Sinclair: "I’ve said before, I will not withdraw the shares, even if I have two billion, I won’t give any to my brother."
Mrs. Sinclair raised her hand and slapped down.
When Victoria Sinclair dodged, Angela stepped forward and grabbed her wrist, "Geez, never seen such biased parents, is Victoria not your daughter? Why force her like this?"
Mrs. Sinclair froze, swallowed, and withdrew her hand, "It’s none of your business."
Angela stood in front of Victoria Sinclair, hands on hips, glaring fiercely at Mrs. Sinclair, her pretty face showing a fierce expression, "She’s my best friend, my lifelong friend, her problems are my problems, I’m warning you, if you dare push her again, I’ll expose you online, let netizens see how ugly such biased parents are. Victoria respects you and doesn’t want to embarrass you, but I, Angela, don’t have her concerns."
Mrs. Sinclair was so angry her hand was trembling, "You dare..."
"What wouldn’t I dare." Angela took out her phone, turned on the camera, "I’ll film it now, expose to the whole network, these biased parents keep using their daughter’s resources, not enough for themselves, they use it to support their son, what’s the matter? Is Victoria your cash cow?"
Mrs. Sinclair used her hand to block her face and the other hand to grab Angela’s phone, "Don’t film."
"Scared?" Angela mocked, "So you know your actions are disgraceful, can’t stand scrutiny, can’t bear judgement?"
Mrs. Sinclair was infuriated, pointing at Victoria Sinclair and yelling, "Birds of a feather, look at what trash friends you’ve made, remember this, if you don’t help your brother buy a house and marry, don’t provide money for him to restart his business, I won’t let it go."
Having said this, Mrs. Sinclair took Mr. Sinclair’s arm and left in the opposite direction.
Angela closed the camera, put the phone in her pocket, turned angrily to Victoria Sinclair, "I just can’t believe it, how can there be such parents in this world, they don’t treat you as a daughter, just a cash cow..."
Angela saw the tears in Victoria Sinclair’s eyes, suddenly froze.
Victoria Sinclair hugged her tightly, buried her head in her shoulder, weeping silently, "Thank you, Angela."
Angela caressed her back, comforting, "There, don’t be sad, they are your parents, if it were me, I also wouldn’t know what to do."
Victoria Sinclair: "How can I sever ties with them?"
Angela sighed deeply, "The law doesn’t allow it, it’s too difficult."
Victoria Sinclair sobbed in her shoulder, "Yeah, sometimes I feel so helpless."
"Why not ask Eugene Vaughn to help you, he surely has a way."
Victoria Sinclair’s body stiffened, lost in thought.
Angela stroked her back, "Victoria, honestly, sometimes I really doubt whether they are your actual parents, you’re so pretty, good-natured, smart, and have an elegant demeanor, completely mismatched with their DNA, it’s like you’re totally out of place."
Victoria Sinclair left her embrace, wiped tears from her eyes, "What nonsense are you talking about, my brother and I are fraternal twins, we have a birth certificate, a full-month photo, childhood pictures, how could this be fake?"
"You two don’t really look alike though!"
Victoria Sinclair smiled bitterly, holding her hand to walk towards the metro, "Stop talking nonsense, let’s go home."
Angela urged, "Call Eugene Vaughn and let him help you solve this issue."
Victoria Sinclair shook her head, "No need."
Angela was puzzled, "Why not? Even though you’re divorced and don’t want any contact with him, among the people you know, only he has the power, influence, and ability to help you, if you don’t ask him for help, then I’ll ask..."
Angela took out her phone, preparing to dial, Victoria Sinclair held her hand, "Really don’t call him."
"Why not?"
Victoria Sinclair resignedly, "He’s at my home."
Angela was shocked, blinking her big eyes, "Your little apartment home?"
Victoria Sinclair sighed softly, "Mm, slept on the floor last night in my home, can’t be driven away."
Angela pursed her lips and chuckled, putting the phone back in her pocket.
The two passed through the subway security check and entered the subway to wait for the train.
Angela held her hand and earnestly said, "Victoria, Eugene truly loves you. Why not give him a chance?"
Victoria felt heavy-hearted, "He loves me; he’s had a crush on me for twelve years."
Angela was shocked, covering her mouth and blinking her big eyes.
Victoria sighed and looked at Angela helplessly, "But I can’t fight against his dad, nor can I fight against Vivian Miller."
Angela gripped Victoria’s hands tightly, exceptionally excited, "Just hide behind Eugene; let him fight for you. Before, you weren’t sure if he really loved you, so you didn’t dare to trust him. But now, you can trust him completely."
Victoria remained silent.
Angela looked at her belly, "Don’t you want the child to be born into a healthy family? Don’t you wish for the child to have a mom and dad?"
Victoria lowered her head, gazing at her belly.
Angela was the only one who knew about her pregnancy and was her most trusted friend.
Can she really trust Eugene?
The subway arrived, and Victoria and Angela entered the carriage.
There was only one seat, and Angela insisted she sit down, "You sit."
Victoria smiled knowingly, "It’s early days; I’m actually fine."
Angela said, "Victoria, my brother has wronged you and Eugene. It’s his fault, not yours. Eugene is quite innocent too."
Victoria’s heart felt heavy.
——
In the evening, the sun set.
In the apartment building, Victoria unlocked the door and entered the house.
The shiny floor, neat furnishings, very much in Eugene’s style — meticulous, perfectly orderly.
She changed her shoes and peeked inside.
Eugene was outside on the balcony, making a call. Hearing the door, he looked over.
The call hadn’t ended yet, but the gentle smile on his face was particularly clear, his eyes warm.
Victoria put down her backpack and went inside.
Eugene pointed to the dining table.
Victoria saw three dishes and a soup on the table, along with two sets of utensils.
She entered the kitchen, washed her hands, and sat down at the dining table to prepare for dinner.
After waiting a while, she turned to look at the balcony.
Eugene seemed very busy; he pressed the phone mic, "Victoria, eat first, no need to wait for me."
Victoria nodded, picked up chopsticks, and started eating.
Eugene’s cooking skills had greatly improved, pleasing in taste, sight, and aroma.
She felt warm and sweet inside.
Angela’s words echoed in her mind, creating a turmoil.
Eugene finished his call and returned to the dining table to sit down.
Victoria lifted her eyes to look at him, her gaze meeting his warm eyes, his smile gentle and pleasant, his voice husky and light, "How’s the taste?"
"Mm, quite good." Victoria noticed he hadn’t touched his chopsticks; the dishes were already getting cold. She picked up a piece of meat and placed it in his bowl, "You eat too."
Eugene was slightly startled, unable to suppress the smile at the corners of his mouth, picking up the chopsticks, "Okay."
The dining atmosphere was warm and quiet.
After dinner, Eugene washed the dishes; she wiped the table.
Eugene went downstairs to throw the trash, she went to her room to freshen up.
Night deepened.
Both had freshened up, wearing home pajamas.
She sat at the dining table, inputting today’s experiment data into the computer.
Eugene sat on the sofa, looking at his phone, checking international news and financial updates.
Victoria finished her work, closed the laptop, shook her sore neck, and turned to see Eugene intensely focused on his phone with headphones on.
Angela’s words resurfaced in her mind, dampening her mood.
Before, she didn’t know Eugene loved her, which gave her no sense of security, making her distrustful, un-dependent, even wanting to distance herself.
She had never depended on anyone her whole life.
This time, should she let herself be indulgent?
Victoria pushed the chair away, stood up, and walked over to sit beside Eugene.
Eugene lifted his eyes from the phone screen and looked at her.
She was sitting very close, her body already touching his.
Such proximity surprised Eugene slightly; he quickly put down the phone, removed the headphones, and reached to gently caress the back of her head, "What’s wrong?"
Victoria turned her head to look at him, her face turning red before words even left her lips, shyly asking, "Can you hold me?"
Eugene’s body stiffened, a kind of flattered surprise coursing through him. He quickly wrapped his arms around her, holding her tightly, his gentle voice laced with a hint of tension, whispering in her ear, "Victoria, is something upsetting you? Or has someone bullied you? Tell me."
Victoria closed her eyes, encircling his waist with both arms, her whole body limply collapsing into his embrace, breathing in the faintly pleasant scent from him.
No smoking, no drinking, and with a cleanliness obsession.
Tall, handsome, and dashing.
She couldn’t fault Eugene’s exterior, but his character was somewhat extreme, his actions a bit drastic — she didn’t know if she could tell him these things.
Last time, he tied up Ethan Vaughn, threw him into the sea, nearly killing him.
Victoria hesitated, tangled up inside.
Eugene’s lips moved closer to her neck, like a kiss, intimately, his hot breath brushing her skin, a tingling sensation spreading all over; she felt ticklish and shrank back, "What are you doing?"
Eugene’s Adam’s apple moved, his voice becoming husky, "Sorry, couldn’t help it."
Victoria’s heart raced, she extricated herself from his embrace, stretched her legs onto the sofa, and leaned onto his thigh.
Eugene sat straighter, shocked by Victoria’s overly active and intimate actions tonight, stunned.
Victoria resting her head on his thigh, looked up at him with eyes clear and bright, meeting his gaze.
Eugene’s Adam’s apple moved, his large hand gently stroking her long black smooth hair, his voice deepening, whispering softly, "Victoria, you’re a bit different today."
"You don’t like it?" Victoria prepared to get up.
Eugene held her shoulder, "I like it, I like it when you lay on me like this, you can lay for as long as you want."
Victoria smiled knowingly.
Eugene, gazing at her charming smile, felt momentarily lost.
His Adam’s apple moved; his slender fingers lightly brushed Victoria’s bangs, eyes heated, voice exceptionally gentle, "Victoria, is there something you want me to help with, and that’s why you’re being sweet?"
Victoria’s words halted in her throat.
Is that what he thought?
Should she say it, or not?
