Cold War between Mr. and Mrs Vaughn: He Regretted when Divorce-Chapter 140: Vivian Miller’s Suicide Leap
Eugene received a call and rushed to the Miller Family.
The night was hazy, but the Miller Family house was brightly lit.
A five-story villa, the moment he got out of the car, he saw the Miller Family’s butler waiting for him, anxious and uneasy, "Young Master Eugene, you’re finally here, quick, go upstairs, the young lady is about to jump off the building, shouting to see you one last time."
Eugene saw that the police and fire trucks had already arrived and hurriedly ran upstairs.
The rooftop was brightly lit, crowded with people, Vivian Miller’s parents, the house servants, even Eugene’s father and stepmother were there, along with Nathan Austin and several firefighters.
Mrs. Miller was crying, Mr. Miller was pleading, others were persuading, the scene was a chaos and noise.
"Eugene is here," Nathan shouted.
Everyone turned back in unison, Eugene, out of breath, slowly approached.
Vivian turned around, her expression haggard, tears glistening, and choked, "Eugene, you finally came?"
Mr. and Mrs. Miller rushed to Eugene, tightly holding his hands, crying and pleading, "Eugene, save my daughter, please save her! Uncle and Auntie will kneel to you, kowtow to you... she did nothing wrong, she just loves you too much."
Harold Vaughn came rushing over, slapped Eugene across the face in a rage, veins bulging, and shouted, "You bastard, for the sake of a woman, you held a press conference without discussing with anyone from us to deny the engagement, causing our two family businesses’ stocks to plummet, disgracing all our elders, and damaging Vivian’s reputation. She’s been childhood sweethearts with you for over twenty years, if not love, isn’t there at least some familial affection? Are you trying to drive Vivian to her death with such over-the-top actions?"
Eugene wiped the stinging corner of his mouth with his finger, endured silently, bypassed Harold Vaughn, and walked towards Vivian.
Vivian cried out, "Don’t come over."
She stood up, emotionally unstable, slowly moving along the edge of the rooftop, with firefighters underneath following her steps.
"Vivian, don’t move, come back," Eugene spoke sternly.
Vivian stopped, stared at Eugene, eyes filled with tears, yet forcing a smile, "Eugene, I’ve liked you since I was a child. We’ve been childhood sweethearts, grew up together, and our families are long-time friends. The elders always said I’d marry you when I grew up. I always thought we were destined to be together. But never thought... a childhood bond couldn’t compete with fate falling from the sky..."
Vivian wept bitterly, her voice shaky to the point of breaking, "Eugene, I know... since high school, you’ve always secretly liked Victoria Sinclair, loved her so quietly yet painfully. But what about me? Isn’t it the same for me? Ever since elementary school, I’ve only had eyes for you... I just wanted to be with you, is that wrong?"
Eugene saw the despair in her eyes, his hand trembling, swallowed nervously, and approached slowly, "Vivian, you’re not wrong, it’s my fault, don’t be so extreme, apart from loving me, don’t you love your parents? If something happens to you, what will they do?"
Vivian, tears in her eyes, looked at her parents, then looked at Eugene, "Eugene, I just have one question for you, answer me honestly."
"Come back, and then ask," Eugene reached out to her.
"Did you ever love me, even if just a little?"
Nathan hurried up to Eugene, whispered urgently, "She’s already severely depressed, tell her you love her, get her back first."
Eugene clenched his fist, remained silent.
Vivian wobbled precariously.
Others urged Eugene to make a statement, coax her back quickly.
Eugene pursed his lips, nodded reluctantly, "I like you, I’ve always liked you, you’re cheerful and lively, straightforward and bold, I still like you now."
Vivian laughed through her tears, "Is it sibling-like love, brotherly love, or love between a man and a woman?"
Eugene continued to approach, nervously swallowed, reached out to her, "Vivian, we’ve had over twenty years of childhood friendship, it’s irreplaceable by love, give me your hand..."
"I’m jealous of Victoria Sinclair, I admire her too, but I hate her more, without her we would have been married long ago, even had kids..." Vivian cried in breakdown, words cut off as she started running towards a corner without a fire cushion.
"No..." Mrs. Miller screamed in fright, fainted into Mr. Miller’s arms.
At the moment she took off, Eugene and the firefighters rushed over, using all their strength to tackle her.
In the nick of time, Eugene lunged, grabbing Vivian’s wrist, while firefighters grabbed onto Eugene’s thigh.
Vivian hung in mid-air, firefighters below hurriedly moved the cushion.
Vivian showed a despairing smile, twisted her wrist to escape his grip, "Eugene, goodbye forever."
Eugene gritted his teeth, mustered all his strength to hold Vivian’s wrist tightly, roared, "Vivian, do you think dying will leave me guilty and grieving forever? But let me tell you, I won’t grieve, nor feel guilty, you can’t take revenge on me, it’ll be your parents suffering, can you bear to let them send off their only child? You’re their only daughter, you die, I’ll live fine, but how will they live on?"
Vivian’s lips curled into a bitter smile, yet her eyes showed a hint of relief, "Thank you, Eugene. Thank you for coming to save me regardless of everything in this dangerous moment. It turns out... I still hold some place in your heart." Her voice faded, filled with endless exhaustion, "But, I’m living too painfully. Just thinking about you and Victoria Sinclair together, my heart feels like it’s being cut by a knife, every day is torment, painful to the brink of collapse... I really... don’t want to live anymore."
As firefighters desperately pulled Eugene up, Vivian lifted her other hand, forced open Eugene’s fingers.
In an instant before the firefighters could reach her, she let her whole body fall.
Eugene’s heart stiffened as if struck by lightning.
"Eugene, don’t let go..." someone behind shouted.
Vivian had already fallen.
Eugene’s hand trembled, then he was pulled up.
The cushion below arrived in time, but in the chaos, it wasn’t placed accurately, Vivian’s head hit the edge, buffered, then fell to the ground.
With a "bang", she fell silent instantly.
The villa front yard lights blurred, the earth was silent, firefighters, ambulance, and everyone surrounded Vivian.
——
Dawn broke.
The alarm clock rang, Victoria Sinclair slowly woke up, glanced around the room, Eugene hadn’t returned.
She got up, picked up her phone to check.
No messages from Eugene.
She felt inexplicably uneasy, with a bad premonition, restless.
Eugene hadn’t returned all night, nor left any messages.
A man who’s been trying to win her back, leaving without any word overnight, couldn’t be good.
She trusted her intuition.
She went to work as usual, feeling dull and unhappy.
Eugene hadn’t contacted her all day.
After work in the evening, returning home, Eugene wasn’t there either.
Unable to hold back, she texted Eugene.
"Eugene, did something happen?"
Eugene replied, "Vivian attempted suicide by jumping off, we’ve been rescuing her all night, she’s still not out of danger."
Victoria gripped her phone, seeing the word ’suicide’, her hand trembled.
Vivian had depression, emotional instability, suicide was her best leverage over Eugene.
Jumping off a building, it seems Vivian Miller truly wants to die.
A woman who isn’t even afraid of death for a man is quite terrifying.
As she guessed, she can’t beat Harold Vaughn, much less Vivian Miller.
She held her phone, feeling heavy in her heart, a suffocating pressure stuck in her chest, making it hard to breathe; it was a kind of indescribable pain, a subtle gloom enveloped her.
The phone beeped twice again.
She picked it up, glanced at it.
"Victoria, I’m really sorry, Vivian jumped off the building because of me. Now Auntie is ill, Uncle has to take care of Auntie, I have to stay in the hospital to keep an eye on Vivian, I can’t go back today. You need to take good care of yourself."
Victoria Sinclair replied with one word: "Okay."
She put down the phone, got up, and went back to her room to freshen up.
That night, she didn’t sleep well.
The next morning, the baby seemed to feel her emotions, her lower abdomen was slightly hurting, and morning sickness was severe.
She had no appetite in the morning, only ate a piece of digestive biscuit for breakfast.
She was muddle-headed at work, finding it hard to concentrate.
Sometimes she really felt that men were the biggest stumbling blocks to her progress.
Emotions are a war without smoke.
In this war, she suffered setbacks repeatedly, exhausted mentally and physically.
For the past half-year since the divorce, she worked hard to let go of this mentally and physically tiring relationship and find the independent and determined self again.
Now, it seemed like she was repeating the same mistakes.
A colleague came over, "Victoria, someone outside is looking for you."
Victoria Sinclair’s thoughts snapped back, she looked up, "Who?"
"A man and a woman, about your age."
"Thank you." Victoria Sinclair picked up her phone and went out.
She knew it definitely wasn’t Angela Austin since Angela had her phone number.
Out of the institute and to the gate, she saw Sarah Lowell and Timothy Sinclair from a distance.
She walked out of the iron gate, went over, and greeted Timothy Sinclair, "Bro, why are you here?"
Timothy Sinclair looked tense, "Victoria, did you know Vivian Miller jumped off a building to commit suicide?"
Victoria Sinclair felt bitter.
When did her brother become so concerned about Vivian, this wasn’t his attitude before.
It seems his girlfriend’s friends are his friends too.
Victoria Sinclair nodded, "I know."
Sarah Lowell, annoyed and hands on her hips, her temper flaring, spoke harshly, "Did you know she was driven to jump by you?"
Victoria Sinclair exhaled lightly, her tone becoming quite displeased, "What does it have to do with me?"
Sarah Lowell sneered, running her tongue over her teeth, very displeased, "The news of her engagement to Eugene Vaughn is all over the internet, everyone knows about it. Since you and Eugene are divorced, cut cleanly, stop being vague and entangled. If it weren’t for you tempting Eugene again, would Eugene hold a press conference to deny the engagement? If it weren’t for you, would Vivian be so depressed that she chose to jump?"
Victoria Sinclair didn’t have the sharp tongue to retort back, she just found it ridiculous.
Timothy Sinclair remained silent on one side.
"Bro." Victoria Sinclair looked toward Timothy Sinclair, "Do you think so too?"
Timothy Sinclair, somewhat clumsy, "Actually, there is some truth to what Sarah said, sis, you and Eugene..."
Victoria Sinclair raised her hand, interrupting coldly, "That’s enough, no need to say more."
She was tired!
Timothy Sinclair was torn, looking at Victoria Sinclair, then at Sarah Lowell.
Sarah Lowell’s face was cold, giving Victoria an eye roll, complaining angrily, "I really feel sorry for Vivian. In terms of family background, you can’t compare to her. In terms of feelings, her love for Eugene far exceeds yours. In terms of time together, they’ve been childhood sweethearts growing up together with deep affection. If it weren’t for you spoiling things, Vivian would definitely be the happiest woman in the world."
Victoria Sinclair frowned tightly, her abdomen hurt again!
Whenever she felt bad, the baby was the first to know.
Victoria took a deep breath, coldly retorted, "She’s one-sided, what happiness is there to talk about? She’s known Eugene for over twenty years. If Eugene chose her, what’s it got to do with me? By that logic, if I were to jump for Zane Shaw, should Zane be responsible for me?"
Sarah Lowell, furious, pointed at Victoria Sinclair, "You are being unreasonable."
"If you specifically came to blame me, I’m sorry, but I won’t cooperate. Vivian’s choice to jump is hers, it has nothing to do with me." Victoria Sinclair said, then turned to leave.
She had only taken two steps when Sarah Lowell shouted in a pleading tone, "Victoria Sinclair, give Eugene back to Vivian. You won’t die without Eugene, but Vivian really can’t live without him."
Victoria Sinclair’s footsteps halted, frozen.
The sunlight fell on her, but she couldn’t feel a bit of warmth, her heart cold and heavy.
This world spins with or without someone.
Victoria Sinclair wouldn’t be driven to extremes for anyone.
But whether others live or not is not her concern.
"Eugene isn’t an object." Victoria replied, her back to them, "Everyone has the right to choose their life, including Eugene."
Timothy Sinclair also persuaded, "Sis, since you and Eugene are divorced, why not let him go back to Vivian, saving a life is more meritorious than building a seven-story pagoda."
A real saint! First dropping charges for his ex-sister-in-law, now trying to morally blackmail her.
No matter how Sarah Lowell blamed her, she felt nothing.
But this was her closest brother, yet he stood against her.
Victoria Sinclair’s heart felt like it was being torn apart, tears of grievance welled up instantly, she clenched her fists, turned to Timothy, "Bro, do you think I divorced Eugene because I didn’t love him?"
Timothy Sinclair immediately panicked, "You..."
Victoria, her nose tingling, throat choking with bitterness, "It’s because you all kept pushing me, framing, slandering, threatening, not able to see me live with him well, not able to see me happy."
Timothy Sinclair completely panicked, stepped forward distressingly holding Victoria’s hand, "Sis, I’m sorry, that’s not what I meant, I definitely want you to be happy, just..."
Victoria withdrew her hand, stepped back, "Don’t say anything, just take your woman away, don’t bother me in the future."
