Coldsnap: The Billionaire Alpha's Fated Pregnant Princess (GL)-Chapter 170 - Flirty Inhabitants Of The Tower
Chapter 170: Chapter 170 - Flirty Inhabitants Of The Tower
The memory of bumping a stack of things... and that sharp crack echoing through the metal box and out into the empty worksite made me wince. I’d rushed out and Stashed the shipping container and everything in it so fast that I’d barely registered what had happened.
Only when I was already three blocks away did I realize one of the hunter’s rifles must have somehow discharged. I don’t know a lot about guns... as my world did not have them and Helene had never fired one.
> But it is just my luck that somehow it fell in just the right way. Did one of the other weapons falling over wedge onto its trigger, maybe? <
At least I was not hurt... if that was silver-tipped ammunition like is most likely considering how much of it he had, it could have been much more serious than it was. Shaking my head as I walk beside BoundaryKeeper who is ’not Brook’, I decide I’ll have to check that out and make sure the two items are both made safe.
"Do you happen to know of anywhere with lots of space and absolutely private? Such as no cameras or foot traffic."
"Well, I do know of a couple places... do you mind if I ask what you need it for? It might change which one I talk about."
Her curiosity was natural enough, but I kept my answer vague as we walked closer and closer towards the center of the city. The streets were very nice here in spite of all the traffic. It was obvious that the rulers of Vossden wanted everywhere around their biggest landmarks to be immaculate.
"Let’s just say some of the estate sale items require... more careful handling than I’m currently giving them."
She nodded strongly, obviously, and knowingly. Probably thinking I meant... hunter’s weapons. I have no illusions that this intelligent woman has not reasoned out exactly whose things I have taken for myself.
> What’s wrong with you? <
My wolf had started sitting up expectantly. Like it was waiting for something to happen.
"I’ll look around discreetly and see if I can’t find somewhere for you to make use of."
We walked in mostly silence for a few blocks after that before she pointed ahead to the white tower I had been trying to ignore. The place that Vrika had been interested in our approaching... because it could tell that the scent of her was not just coming from a pendant on the human any longer.
"Home sweet home."
I stopped walking entirely, staring up at the illuminated [Lunarizon Industries] above the entrance. I’d seen it and the logo near the top of the building... but had so far avoided coming this close to the seat of the Rimecoat’s power.
At least, I’d assumed the CEO’s pack lived in or around the place. If she owned a whole building, why wouldn’t she house her people close by where she worked? That’s how she could best protect them after all.
"You... live there?"
"Sure do. Company housing. Perks of working for ’Your Waiting Mate’."
> Of course she does. Because apparently I cannot just stay well enough away from that woman’s influence no matter how hard I try. <
Vrika’s tail wagged with what I interpreted as smug satisfaction. My wolf seemed to find it amusing that every new connection I made here somehow led back to Kyrie. Next thing I’ll learn is that Edgar is Kyrie’s long lost uncle!
I feel like it would be safe now to just leave her here and go. Without getting near the main entrance at all. Until my werewolf hearing caught part of a one sided conversation from a vaguely familiar voice.
"-that report of gunfire. Forensics team didn’t get there yet, but I was able to get close enough and smell the gunpowder and the silver bullet."
My blood went cold. That had to be about my little... construction site incident. Turning my head slightly, I see a tall blonde man in a dark jacket heading toward the glass doors from behind us with long strides.
He stored away his phone as he drew closer and that long stride turned into an almost frantic lope. It was everything I could do not to bolt away and start a second chase tonight - because he was clearly not coming for me.
> If he wasn’t a Rimecoat, would I have tried to intercept him for her instead of run? I’d like to think I’d try, but more likely if I did anything... I would probably just pick her up and run... <
"Claire! You’re out late. Marco called me... everything alright?"
The attentive behavior immediately made me realize that this was her-
> Wait, Claire? Where have I heard that name before? <
It sounded familiar in a way that made my mind race backward through recent conversations... but nothing was coming up. Brook - no, Claire - smiled warmly at the blonde man who must be the Beta she wanted to be jealous.
"I’m fine, thanks for asking. Just spending some personal time with... a new friend. Citra, this is Luca."
When his eyes met mine, there was recognition and his expression shifted from the concern for her into something more guarded. More evened out and less like the ’retriever’ she compared him to. I couldn’t help but raise my chin and sneer.
"I think we’ve met before, once. Small world, isn’t it?"
The brunette started slapping his bicep with the back of her hand. His suit top moved a bit, but the arm seemed as solid as a tree trunk though not as thick. Maybe a good sized branch, though.
"See, this is what you get by being all intimidating when you run into someone on patrol."
"I swear I didn’t do anything intentional. I hadn’t expected her to react that way, either."
Watching their interaction made me sense immediately that they were close. Not just the way she touched without fear, or the way his head tilted down just slightly when ’berated’ that showed he was taking her words into consideration.
"Like I told you, because we did a demonstration in the understructure that morning on Werewolf CQC she smelled our Alpha on me."
"Oh, yeah me too actually. She got all huffy when she first smelled this."
"Huffy?"
I decided to openly take offense at her choice of accurate words even as she pulled down her sweater... more than seemed appropriate to show off the pendant. Not that I don’t get why, with the person she is attracted to looking at her.
Vrika and I are both sure he was not displeased... because of the crisp, icy mint set of pheromones that grew stronger when she stood near him and just rapidly increased when he saw her pale chest with yellow lingerie bra.
> Except he just as immediately shot his gaze into the sky to avoid acknowledging. That reaction makes me think of how quick Kyrie was to back off when we first met. Are city wolves all just that goody-goody around people they are interested in? <
She frowns and digs out her phone... and I’m sure that she is about to use the evidence she prepared. Honestly, the more I’m thinking of it the less I’m certain that I want to be used for-
"But we got along really good after that. See? Really good."
Luca stared at the woman like she was some sort of enigma. Then he grabbed for the phone and started to delete the photo... but just sighed and handed the device back when he realized there were a lot more where that came from.
"...You have a deathwish, don’t you? I can’t promise she won’t freak out."
