Chapter 182: Chapter 182 - Aftermath Of Interruption

Meeting Kyrie’s slightly dazed eyes... reality crashed back over me. Her chest underneath the loose shirt rose and fell rapidly, with lips parted and cheeks flushed. She looked thoroughly compromised - thanks to me.

> I don’t think she even heard the knocks on the door... <

Something came over me when I realized that. Something incredibly... territorial. My muscles tautened as my insides partially shifted and I *glared* at the door. Like I was ready to defend... her.

Vrika stood firm and growling in my mindscape. When the only exit opened and Anise slipped inside too rapidly, I almost lunged at the ’threat’. But she only chuckled at us... thinking I’d just been startled.

"I am very, very sorry that I had to interrupt. Believe me. But if I didn’t come inside, he would have."

"Kyrie? We have an emergency meeting in twenty minutes."

Luca’s voice called through the crack... urgent, but professional sounding . Our little intimate bubble of time must have been interrupted by pack business, I realized. My eyes close and I let out a hot, long breath.

"Can you get the clothes she wore-"

"Already have them. Just hurry, because he might knock the door down next time."

She did have a white suit and red shirt set in her arms that I’d ignored. Anise set them on a low table beside the door and exited. Staring that way for many seconds, my rational side works through everything that just happened.

"...It sounds like I have to go."

She whispered hoarsely and interrupted my self-assessment, though she made no move to get up. Not while I was still positioned here. Seated on her legs. Kyrie didn’t even fix her disheveled shirt.

I studied her face for so many quiet seconds that she chuckled at me softly, but didn’t ask me to move. Memorizing the way she looked - vulnerable and wanting more... and mine in those moments.

But I pushed myself up and stepped back from her anyway. Releasing her from my... control. While knowing she might not have complained if I hadn’t. However, the ’magic’ of the moment is now broken.

"Go handle your pack business, Alpha. It’s more important."

Telling her this as she sat up slowly, her eyes never left mine. Soft brown were darkened with covering eyelashes, half lidded with some internal promise - and some unfinished desire. She nodded at me as a person... not as a potential werewolf mate.

"I’m not sure it is. But if you want me to wait... longer. I can."

"...I want you to eat more, too. And get sleep."

Prickly and annoyed - not just about the interruption. I may not have slept well last night specifically, but I’ve been eating well and sleeping fine since I got to her city. Knowing she hasn’t... bothers me.

"Of course. Any final orders, Princess?"

A small smile was on her face - but she was serious. Her eyes searched mine, waiting for whatever I might demand of her next. I knew that I could ask for so many things.

> Okay, I know it’s over now so you could technically ’come out’, but will you stop asking me to ask her to mark me?! <

My thoughts were a little more... simple. Such as for her to think about me during her meeting, asked with a flirtatious smile. Or for her to text me afterward and prove she got something filling to eat.

Even for her to come find my apartment when she was done dealing with whatever crisis had erupted, so that we could start this over. That simple thought hammered at me the hardest. So... I thought.

"Don’t listen to others as easily as this."

Instead, I found myself voicing that which pierced sharply through it all. A sentence that revealed more than I wanted to.

> A line that makes her realize I am currently capable of feeling jealousy over her. Not just accusing her of having relationships outside of me, or prior - but that I’m wanting ours to be... different. <

I’d ’barked’ angrily at her assistant and Beta already, but this might be the first time I’ve said something so directly. Her still dilated pupils grew slightly larger as her smile softened and her lip quivered just a little. Not sad or smug, but tender and touched.

"Only you, then. I promise."

Even though I knew promises, like all rules, were conditional... the acknowledgment set me on fire. Another sharp knock echoed through the door before it cracked open. Luca’s voice carried even more urgency.

"Kyrie! I’m sorry, but we have to leave - now."

Even with that, her movements were reluctant. I stepped back further to give her space to change, watching the new shirt drop and glimpsing the charcoal gray bra backstrap. As well as something else... to study in more detail.

> Another time. <

I ignored whatever was inked between her shoulderblades as it disappeared underneath that red silk dress shirt. As she transformed from the willingly vulnerable woman beneath me and back into the strong werewolf who ran a large corporate empire.

The composed Alpha CEO with a net worth still a whole three magnitudes above my own. My million dollars have left me able to move more under my own power, but her billion is still a crushing difference.

Her fingers paused for just a moment after slipping up her skirt and zipping it. I saw her swallow hard before turning towards my still much too strong gaze. I’m not sure why I’m *looking* so hard, it’s only making things worse.

"Citra do you want... to ride along?"

"It’s your pack business. Not for me."

I reminded her firmly, even though part of me wanted to hear about it all - and part of me added ’yet’ to the end of my own sentence. But just like I don’t want her to make promises she won’t keep, I don’t want to promise anything either. Before she can do any convincing, I keep speaking.

"Whatever’s happening, handle it - in your way - as if I don’t exist. Don’t make changes to your way of rule when others depend on you."

She nodded at my haughtily spoken advice and pulled the white blazer over her shoulders. Completing the set of ’Kyrie Voss’. She paused with her hand on the handle to leave, looking back at me with a heated expression.

"Thank you. For... ’being generous’, as you called it. Knowing for sure you have your own interest in things with me means a lot."

"Don’t think too much about this. We’re still not doing any mate bond marking."

"I know. I’ll wait until I can."

Before I could respond to her sure voiced provocation... she was gone. Leaving me alone in the too-quiet room with the lingering scent of her. And the memory of her moments of complete surrender.
