Consequences of Dumping the Obsessive Boss: Stuck with Him Forever-Chapter 139: An Awkward Relationship Leaves Summer Lowell at a Loss for Words
Although there are many rumors outside, she is still the legitimate director of the Stellart Design Department. No matter how dissatisfied these designers are, they are still under her jurisdiction.
Seeing her get angry, the designers who had been speaking sarcastically all quieted down, looking down at the materials they had just received, not daring to utter another word.
Assistant Fletcher swept his gaze over this group of troublemaking onlookers, his expression a mix of disdain and distress.
This incident left Summer Lowell simmering with anger the entire day.
It was not until evening, almost time to get off work, that Summer was hesitating whether to sneak out before Maxim Sinclair arrived.
Before she could decide, she suddenly received a call from Noah, asking her to come up for a meeting.
Eager to skip out, Summer tested the waters subtly, learning that the meeting was important and couldn’t be postponed until tomorrow, and reluctantly took the elevator upstairs with heavy steps.
Arriving at Noah’s office, Summer had barely sat down when two other executives lightly jabbed at her with sarcastic remarks about Maxim Sinclair.
In front of Noah, Summer didn’t want to escalate the situation or argue, so she pretended not to understand and focused on discussing business with Noah.
Fortunately, Noah was straightforward. Within just over ten minutes, the urgent meeting was over.
Summer took the chance to glance at the time. There were still over forty minutes until the end of work. If she went downstairs and found an excuse to slip away now, she might be able to avoid Maxim Sinclair coming to pick her up and causing gossip among the others at Stellart’s entrance.
As long as she could think of a way to get out first, then find an excuse to meet Maxim somewhere else, he wouldn’t show up at Stellart’s entrance, avoiding people pointing fingers.
As long as she could block him once, it was okay. Summer really couldn’t control anything beyond that, nor did she have the heart to try; she’d just let it be.
Summer packed up the materials Noah handed her and was just about to make her escape when the executive who had been sarcastic with her grabbed her sleeve: "Director Lowell, President Norris still has something to say. Why are you in such a hurry? Where are you planning to go?"
Summer rolled her eyes internally, then looked up at Noah behind the desk: "President Norris, didn’t you just say the meeting was over? If there’s nothing else, may I leave now? I have a task to clarify with my assistant. I’m worried she’d mess up, and I’m anxious to get back."
Noah couldn’t understand what that executive wanted to convey, but he could tell something was off today, clearly sensing a deliberate effort to make things difficult for Summer.
"If you have something to handle, go ahead," Noah nodded, backing her up. "I don’t have anything else to say. If there’s anything urgent, I’ll message you directly."
Summer smiled and nodded, then politely bid farewell to the executive who made things difficult for her: "I have a lot to deal with in my department, unlike your relaxed job. I’ll take my leave now."
The executive she retorted gave a forced laugh: "Director Lowell is so interesting. I thought you were leaving to meet your boyfriend after work, but turns out it’s work-related!"
"Saying those things in front of the boss isn’t really appropriate, is it?" Summer kept her polite smile, despite the disgust she felt inside. "If it weren’t for my constant overtime, President Norris might believe your joke and think I’m an incompetent employee."
"Oh dear, just kidding, Director Lowell, don’t take it seriously," the executive laughed and patted her shoulder affectionately. "We all know how hard Director Lowell works. Who would’ve thought you’ve managed to run the branch design department so splendidly? Truly, one can’t judge a book by its cover!"
Summer smiled perfunctorily, not wanting to continue the conversation.
As she turned to leave, another executive suddenly spoke up: "Director Lowell, you shouldn’t bury yourself in work all the time. You should also make time for relationships, right? Both relationships and careers need management."
Hearing this, Summer’s heart sank. She shouldn’t have clashed with them earlier.
Turns out these people were waiting for her here.
As expected, as soon as the words were spoken, another executive who hadn’t said a word subconsciously asked: "Isn’t Director Lowell single? When did she start a relationship? So quickly! When I saw her last week, she said she was single."
Summer pursed her lips, casually eyeing the people who deliberately brought up the topic.
"I don’t really know," said the male executive who kept causing trouble, shaking his head and pointing at Summer. "I only heard from people chattering that someone picked Director Lowell up after work three days straight last week. They seemed quite intimate, and the guy looked extremely distinguished, driving a first-class luxury car. If I remember correctly, there are no more than ten of those cars in the country. Anyone who can drive such a car must be of significant means!"
The person being informed thought Summer really had a boyfriend, teasing her with a smile: "Moving fast, huh? Who’s the lucky guy? Bring him over for a meal with us!"
Summer thought to herself, if I dared to bring him, would you dare eat with him?
Are they not afraid of being dismantled by Maxim Sinclair?
Noah, who vaguely guessed at the inside story, tapped his fingers on the desk, drawing everyone’s attention, then pointed to the office door with displeasure: "I just received an email related to the design department. Director Lowell and I have other matters to discuss. You all may leave first."
After dismissing everyone, Noah pondered while rubbing the ring on his hand and looked at Summer: "You’ve always been smart. You should know why I kept you here alone, right?"
Summer certainly understood. She nodded: "I’m sorry, President Norris. My relationship with Maxim Sinclair is indeed special, but I assure you, I would never do anything detrimental to Stellart. I was genuinely pained by the loss of the two projects earlier and genuinely resent The Sinclair Group for snatching them away so easily."
"Of course I trust you," Noah looked at Summer a bit disapprovingly. "However, can you really not tell me the nature of your relationship with Maxim Sinclair?"
"President Norris, actually..."
"I’m curious if he’s holding something over you or promised you something extraordinary to make you withstand so much company pressure to be close to him?"
Summer shook her head helplessly: "I can’t tell."
She couldn’t bring herself to say it.
It was too humiliating, too shameful.
A contractual marriage!
Even if she told, people outside wouldn’t believe it. They’d only accuse her of using whatever means to climb up, covering it with excuses.
"If you really don’t want to say, never mind," Noah sighed lightly. "Better remember what you said today."
