Chapter 138: Chapter 138: Summer Lowell Confronts the Designer

"It’s okay. Compared to our department meetings, I’m more concerned about what my subordinates are saying about me in private."

The more Assistant Fletcher didn’t want to say, the more interested Summer Lowell became in the matter.

Seeing her intent on hearing the gossip, Assistant Fletcher sighed helplessly, "It’s just the usual stuff—suspicions that you’re about to jump ship to the Sinclair Group, the leaked draft incident, and the project being snatched by the Sinclair Group."

There were other things that Assistant Fletcher ultimately felt uncomfortable saying out loud.

But Summer Lowell had already guessed the unsaid words from her expression.

"Do people in the company suspect that I’m secretly colluding with Maxim Sinclair, deliberately leaking the drafts, and letting the project go to the Sinclair Group?"

"That’s all baseless gossip, Director Lowell. No one knows better than me how dedicated you are to your work. You’ve really put in all your effort on the project. In Stellarion, there are very few people who can snatch a project from the Sinclair Group. The fact that you’ve lasted so long without losing to him is already impressive."

"If Maxim Sinclair hadn’t come to pick me up from work, these people might still barely believe that I’m genuinely dedicated to the project. But now he’s coming over with the stance of a boyfriend. If I were in your shoes, it’d be hard not to suspect if your boss is loyal on the surface but working for the rival."

"Director..."

Assistant Fletcher did not refute her words, as she too, upon seeing Maxim Sinclair come to pick up Summer Lowell, had once suspected if Summer had indeed intentionally lost the project to the Sinclair Group.

Had it not been for witnessing Summer’s sheer determination during that period, she might have been one of those spreading the rumors.

Summer remained silent for a long time, and Assistant Fletcher, seeing her distressed look, deliberately changed the subject: "There’s only three minutes left until our department meeting, Director. You seem a bit exhausted now. Should we postpone the meeting to the afternoon? In the past, when you were really busy, didn’t you often delay meetings to the afternoon? It would be perfectly fine."

"But things aren’t like they were before." Summer stood up and walked to the desk, organizing the unfinished materials, "Recently, our department doesn’t have any urgent projects. Clever designers would roughly know our department’s workload. If I use work as an excuse to postpone the meeting now, it would only make me seem guilty."

"But in your current state, you’re not suited to host the department meeting." Assistant Fletcher, slightly worried, pressed the stack of materials in front of Summer, "The design department is just starting to make progress. You should stay true to yourself and not worry about external opinions. Only if you remain steady can the design department have a better future."

"That’s a nice thought." Summer smiled at her, then added, "The premise is that I don’t get fired before then." 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"That’s out of the question, Director Lowell. Your contribution to the company is unprecedented. Back then, it was you alone who turned things around and saved the company on the brink of collapse. And you saved that critical project at headquarters when it was at its most crucial moment. I’ve heard the big bosses at headquarters had decided to shut down the branch here, and fortunately, you were there."

Summer curled her lips into a bitter smile and chuckled twice.

If it weren’t for that project back then, she wouldn’t have gotten involved in such a complicated relationship with Maxim Sinclair, nor ended up in this current predicament.

"Let’s go. Let’s attend the meeting and feel everyone’s stares. It’s not my first time. When I first got here, every time we had a department meeting, those people’s gazes were either disdainful or mocking. Not one of them was convinced by me, and I got used to it long ago." Summer joked and laughed, looking indifferent.

Assistant Fletcher saw this and felt unbearably upset: "Though I shouldn’t ask about your affairs, you do need to take control of the situation; otherwise, if matters escalate to headquarters, it won’t bode well for you."

Summer was naturally aware of this potential risk.

But the current situation wasn’t something she could control.

Early this morning, she called Maxim Sinclair, alternating between threats and polite discussions.

But in the end, Maxim still said he would come to pick her up after work this evening.

Maxim even expressed at one point that he wanted to join her for lunch at Stellart.

He said it was the treatment due for Mrs. Sinclair.

But for Summer, just picking her up from work had already stirred things up at Stellart. If he also came over specially for lunch, Summer felt she might as well pack up and leave right then.

The two S-level projects being messed up by the Sinclair Group meant the two shareholders at headquarters now looked at Summer with disdain whenever they saw her.

If they found out about the close relationship between Summer and Maxim Sinclair, who knows how much more chaos would ensue.

Summer, holding the materials, entered the meeting room with a stern face.

The noisy meeting room fell silent immediately upon her arrival.

Arrayed along the long meeting table, the designers, adorned in vibrant colors, uniformly raised their heads to stare at Summer.

Assistant Fletcher, seeing the situation, immediately put on a stern face: "The materials have already been distributed to you. Why are you staring at the Director instead of looking at the materials? There’s nothing written on her face."

Sitting at the far end of the table, separated by the entire length of it, Linda unabashedly laughed, looking at Summer with a mocking tone, "We just suddenly realized how beautiful Director Lowell is. We were just talking about how she’s one of the rare beauties in our industry."

Summer looked straight at her, "Assistant Fletcher is right. Is there something written on my face? Making you all stare at me continuously."

Linda covered her mouth and giggled, "Your face is much more interesting than words. For someone as beautiful and promising as you in the design industry, I wonder which young talents would catch your eye."

Saying this, Linda nudged the arm of another designer beside her.

The designer received her cue, smiled meaningfully, and followed her lead, "Ordinary people certainly wouldn’t catch the eye of our Director Lowell. Honestly, seeing how hard she worked, I thought she was married to her job."

The other designers in the meeting room laughed at these words, looking at Summer with ill intent as her face turned an ashen blue.

After several minutes, Summer, unable to tolerate any more, slammed the file onto the table: "Have you laughed enough? If so, start looking at your materials, and let’s begin the meeting. If anyone doesn’t want to work properly, they can leave right now."
